Who is this green and blue armor for?
Who uses it?
Why would anyone use it?
A skin? An upgrade? Only need one.
Cant get ascended armor from it.
Silk scraps? Takes about 200 light armor for just one piece so not a viable option.
Chance for an ecto on salvage of “rare” armor but why all the blues and greens?
Only use in the forge is rare armor, so who uses it and why and for what??

This is where you start fixing the major loot problem!

Not everyone starts out with full rare, elite or ascended armor when they hit 80.

True, the game is over 3 years old, so many players will have the funds to move straight to rare or better armor for new characters. New players can take advantage of the established farms etc.

As is right now, blue and green armor provides for a constant supply of mostly crafting materials while working as a minor gold sink since the use of salvage kits is not free (3 or 3.6 copper per salvage might not seem like a lot, but multiply that by a couple of hundred thousand or million per day. even more on mystic kits).

Reworking the loot system would require a huge amount of work if armor should get removed. You’d have to provide:

- the skins on said armor via an alternative method
- the materials provided via an alternativ methid
- the runes/sigils would need a new system too
- the goldsink provided would need to be reworked

All this while none of the other aspects would get affected since even if they removed blue and green armor, I highly doubt they’d replace those drops with rare or better rarity items.

All in all, seems like a lot of hassle for something that gets the job done. What you are likely complaining about has nothing to do with blue and green drops. The low drop chance on value items is due to the economy and business model of Anet for GW2. It would not change by removing said armor.

The problem with that is weapons don’t salvage into silk and the metal and wood they do salvage to can be gathered on nodes.

What would it solve?

You would still click the same amount, but with that metal and wood materials would drop in price while fabric would rise even more and leather would probably rise a bit.

Only changing the medium and heavy armor would not affect fabric at all.

Ever heard of legendary armor?
Me neither.

So you want weapons instead of armor so you can gameble on precursors etc.etc

You do understand how an economy works though right? Reduce the supply of 1 thing, and its price increases. Increase the supply of another, and its price decreases.

So now you are increasing the amount of weapons available, the price of precursors drops, etcetcetc.

But wait, you’ve decreased the supply of other materials for armos, so their price increases.

In the end, the player base is worse off.

The precursor problem is solved via a different approach, and legendary armor, while not in game now, is planed for the future. So again the question, what problem are you tackling (since you still have not explained how armor drops are a problem) and what solution are you proposing that solves said problem (exchanging armor with weapons does not reduce the amount of clicks, etc).

I heard about legendary armor, they are just not implemented yet

Also, you want to hold tons of blues and greens weapons to later try to forge into rares and then those rares into exotics and maybe have a small chance of precursor … yeah sounds like much less clicking and more practical than salvaging armors on the spot.

So nobody thinks the massive excess of blue and green armor and the massive amount of clicking required for rng crap it gives needs to be adjusted?

Yes I occasionally gamble on weapons in the forge but that has nothing to do with the level 80 armor massive glut. They are items that are not used as they are.
If your really think players can significantly affect how the economy works or doesn’t work, guess again.
Changing how some materials drop does not necessarily make the player base worse off.
What precursor problem? Availability? This would help.
And I clearly explained that blue and green armor, while in super abundance has no significant uses justifying their numbers. Not to mention the absurd amount of clicking required.

Converting 80% of level 75 to 80 medium and heavy armor into matching level weapons and increasing the drop rate for leather would be one way to help till like 2017… when legendary armor might appear.
What else in this game exists in basically unused abundance?

I use greens while leveling chars. That’s all.

IMO:
Lower the drop of green and blues to half.
Double the chance of obtaining green and blue level mats from salvaging them.
Less clicks, same mats.

(Its not perfect, since the small gold sink suffer a little. But I think it would be worth it. Our mouses would really appreciate it.)

While I will agree that in certain instances it seems silly. Like in a dungeon run getting 3-4 blues from each chest is annoying. I know they can’t give me rares/exotics at that rate, even one per chest, without changing the balance of the economy, but throwing trash at me hand over fist is irritating, I’ll admit it.
But I do get mats out of it.

At the same time we all hate getting nothing. Getting nothing is the biggest baddest most horrible outcome of any endeavor, be it dungeon, raid, fractal, anything else.

Do you know why we get so much gray junk trash to vendor for coppers?
Because in early testing they didn’t have that stuff, and simply gave people the money, but people don’t count a handful of copper as “a drop” so people complained about drop rates being way too low.
The solution? Instead of giving cash, they give trash items that you have to vendor to get part of that cash (because never getting cash is also a problem), and hey now we get drops at a much higher rate, even if its really just an illusion created by the gray stuff.

What can they do? They can’t give us really good rewards from everything, hyperinflation would ruin the game, and they can’t give us nothing, because looking good and getting cool loot is a heavily motivating factor in why people play these types of games.
And even if you don’t get what you want at least getting anything means you got something for your effort.

Converting armor to weapons doesn’t do a freaking thing except make silk super expensive.
Let me repeat that, dropping all of that loot as weapons doesn’t do a freaking thing except make silk super expensive

All that blue/green crap? It’s the primary source of silk/gossamer/mithril/ori/leather.
Now it’s all just metal and wood?
And you still have to salvage the same number of items its just weapons instead of armor?
How in the world is that supposed to actually do….anything but make silk expensive because we’d lose a primary source?

The game has clicking issues, no one can honestly deny that, but this doesn’t actually solve the clicking problem.

The clicking is a true problem, the amount of drop isn’t, Anet needs to find a better way on how we can salvage/forge them.

Yes I occasionally gamble on weapons in the forge but that has nothing to do with the level 80 armor massive glut. They are items that are not used as they are.

Not to mention the absurd amount of clicking required.

Armor AND weapons are items that are not used as they are.
What is the difference of armor salvage clicking and weapon forge clicking? So change armor drop for weapon drop changes nothing.

Converting 80% of level 75 to 80 medium and heavy armor into matching level weapons and increasing the drop rate for leather would be one way to help till like 2017… when legendary armor might appear.

Not everyone salvages. Some vendor all. Some sell them on the trading post and some put all greens in the forge to try for rares. Cutting the drop rate in half affects these people.

Nope, as you see by the majority (I believe up to this point every single respons even) do not see this as a massive problem as you make it out to be.

Yes I occasionally gamble on weapons in the forge but that has nothing to do with the level 80 armor massive glut. They are items that are not used as they are.
If your really think players can significantly affect how the economy works or doesn’t work, guess again.

You do understand that the player base IS the economy right? Anet sets drop rates and rarity, but the actual players make the economy by giving certain things value or not. Not sure where you were going with this train of thought.

Changing how some materials drop does not necessarily make the player base worse off.

True, but you have not provided a viable alternativ or solution. So, things stay as is?

And I clearly explained that blue and green armor, while in super abundance has no significant uses justifying their numbers. Not to mention the absurd amount of clicking required.

No, you’ve expressed that YOU think blue and green armor has no significant use. Your opinion =/= fact. Also you did not offer a solution to the clikcing problem, instead your idea was to exchange the item that needs to get clicked.

Converting 80% of level 75 to 80 medium and heavy armor into matching level weapons and increasing the drop rate for leather would be one way to help till like 2017… when legendary armor might appear.

I’m going to assume that you meant cloth instead of leather since leather is by FAR the least valuable crafting material. Making more leather drop would be a death toll on current balance which is already heavily punishing light armor classes in pve. Leather certainly does not require more supply at the moment.

So if now green and blue weapons give the same materials as armor, require the same amount of clicking to salvage, why not get rid of everything and just make no name boxes drop that can get salvaged?

You still have not addressed how skins and runes would get introduced into the game economy. Or why Anet should spend time on this change at all. Where is the benefit to the game and the playerbase. Hell where is the benefit to Anet cash wise? Would people be forced to convert more gems to pay for insane cloth prices on the trading post? What’s the end goal?

I put my blue and green armor (that doesn’t sell for much on the TP) into the forge and occasionally receive rare armor. Rare armor salvages into Globs of Ectoplasm. Or, I can throw the rares in for a chance at exotics which, when salvaged, can give Dark Matter.

Although, there isn’t a chance for a Precursor doing that, it still gives me something (at times) I value. Thus, blue and greens have value…to me.

Good luck.

They could just convert most of the blue/green drops into a stackable item that when salvaged gives scraps and luck. While it wouldn’t remove the clicking, it would make it much more efficient.

However they won’t, the current system seems to do 2 main things. It gives a “sense of reward” to the player by having lots of items drop, regardless of value/use, it also fills up bag space which promote gem sales on bag slots.
