They actually listen to their community.

You might not believe me but here are some things you just can’t argue against.

1. Look at the arah gates. They are never closed and the wp is not inside the gates. Thanks Anet.

2. Pve, pvp, wvw all need to be balanced. They are now splitting the 3 to help make all the classes even. Thanks Anet.

3. Dungeons. You want them to be harder? You got it. They are too easy? You got it. You want them revamped? You got it. You need something nerfed? You got it. Now before I go any further with this I’ll just say they only nerfed the things that people really had problems with. Simin and the OLD effigy come to mind. With res rushing removed, the dungeons are focused on skill and not patience. Thanks Anet.

4. Legendaries are too plain you say? No? Well that’s what people WERE saying a few months ago. Now we have giant flying rainbow unicorns and disco balls rolling around in WvW making the place classy and flashy. Loving it. Thanks Anet.

5. New and awesome content like the karka event and the super adventure box. Keeping the game fresh. Even when something bugged out and messed up the event anet came to the rescue with the karka chests in the mail sent to all those effected. Thanks Anet.

6. This game is pay for cosmetics not pay to win. Sure you may not want to have to buy gems with rl money AND you want the skin, well guess what, YOU DON’T HAVE TO! You’re actually able to get everything in this game with in-game currency. Thanks Anet.

7. There is no monthly subscription fee. Without that point I’d never have played this game. Thats Anet.

Now if you go ahead and look at something like league of legends, where the companies don’t give a crap about their players, you’ll realize just how good we have it.

1. Every champion in the game is locked from the player when they start the game. You are able to unlock champions as you go along but in the beginning you’re very limited to whatever they let you play for the first long while.

2. Every other week or so they release a new champion. Problem is, every new champion has been costing 6300, something that is practically unobtainable for the average player. Players were asking since the trend on 6300 on every champion to lower it so the average player could be able to own the character they want to play when they want to play it.
So far Riot has released 2 champions at 7800.

3. Almost all the time, their new champions are release a little op so that everyone would rush to grab it. After a few weeks, they’d balance the class but that’s only after they got their money off the general public.

4. The only possible way to get anything cosmetic in the game is with real life money. There is no in-game currency exchange rate for their goods.

5. The game is pay to win. If you want to get an advantage at the start of any game ala higher stats and such, you get these upgrades from their store (luckily with in game currency) BUT, you only get access to 1 page of these stat upgrades. That’s fine and dandy if you only play one character, but in a game with hundreds, you’ll need multiple pages. THAT you get with rl money.

Tldr, Just happy Anet is not anything like Riot games. Makes this game for fun and less of a chore to play. I don’t feel like I’m going to get left behind if I don’t play for a few days.

I like their customer support. I had to use it and I was very happy with the result. I’ve used other MMO companies customer support over the years and they’ve all been rather poor. Customer support is important to me.

Glad to hear your issue was resolved random

@OP Zac is not op, Nami not op, Karma was not op (still isn’t) There were lots of new champions that weren’t overpowered (and the majority of the ones that seemed so weren’t). People bought them because they were new. They seem op because nobody knows how to deal with them :p Same with deathknights in wow, add something new and they will kill everyone at first.

Hopefully when anet eventually get around to adding more options to the classes they do it right.

At least with Riot games they give straight answers to issues of the game showing facts and numbers unlike anet that says things like. “It’s something we’ve been talking about and it’s on a list and it will come out when it’s done.”

It is. And yes, Anet listens to fans. They always have to some degree. Doesn’t mean they’ll do everything you want, because different people want different things.

But this is the sort of snarky negativity I’ve come to expect from some of the posters here. Obviously some people do think Anet listens to fans. I’m not so sure your post adds much to this discussion.

They do listen to their players, id just like to know more about what they are working on or what they want to work on.There was a dev response about why duelling isnt a high priority on their list, which was a well reasoned and informative post. I’d like to see more of a blog about their plans going forward in one place, rather than hunting thro the dev tracker. I know one was promised back in jan.

Ive certainly not played an mmo so enriched with costant content. Ive playing anarchy online for 10 years and for the last 5, almost nothing of the promised additions has appeared. Gw2 is a refreshing change from that, i just hope they dont burn out trying to push put too much

The only game that comes close to GW2 at being awesome is LoL.
League is a free game where everything you NEED is obtainable without spending ANY money. The game’s extremely competitive and balanced, I have all the champions I want and all the runes I need and now It’s all down to game knowledge/experience and SKILL. Riot also hosts championships/tournies which prize pool is millions. I don’t get why you compare the 2 games, makes me think you’re pretty stupid. I prefer GW2 as a game it’s the best I’ve ever played, but I go have a few games of League sometimes for the 100% skill/brains required to play that game, when in ranked, everyone plays whatever champion they desire and have all the right runes in. Everyone’s 100% equal basically and the only thing that makes a difference is individual skill and teamwork, nothing to do with how much IP or how many skins you have. The game’s absolutely brilliant. Even Riots support, they help me refund champions/skins, I even lost my account recently and they got it back for me. I don’t get why you’re trying to make Riot/lol look bad, I bet you’re just bad at the game and got angry/gw2 fanboy.
League is nothing but pay2win, that’s the most stupid comment I’ve read on these forums, well done mate. You can even buy rune pages with IP.
wait hold on…have you even played the game ?

Out of all the games out there that are actually pay2win, you picked League of Legends (which is not). Seriously ? :S

But yes Anet and GW2 are amazing and I have no complaints tbh and I agree about the points you made about Anet.

Yea they do listen to the playerbase.

The people who don’t think they are listening the playerbase are wrong, they are infact not listening your idea’s which often a very small amount of the community want.

And at the end of the day Arenanet are a great company, which have designed a great game, and they know best more often than not, but when the community does know better, they make the changes.

And listen to the word community, im not talking about a small minority of that which think anet never listen, im talking about the majority.

the only things i think they need to add are raids. at least 10 man ones that are fun to do.

Counterpoint:

Rangers are still a joke.

Lol condition spec.

All fights deteriorate into zerg buttonmashing.

Pigeonholed skill system, 5 skills for the whole game for your favorite weapon, on top of that, their effectiveness precludes the utility skills, making for a bar that is barely customizable at all.

Most classes have less than 3 viable elite skills, more often than not, its not even a choice.

Vertical gear progression.

Lost Shores.

No roles means that everyone can do everything. Without the trinity to structure combat and content design, we have hp sponges with OHKO mechanics that belong in a LoZ game, not an MMO.

List of features done better in GW1 (8 year old game):

- LFG tool.
- Depth of class and skill system.
- Depth of combat and group integrity.
- Making individual players feel useful by using distinct roles that were supported by a tried and true content and encounter formula.
- Mob AI, mob depth, mob synergy, mob appeal through interesting skill sets.
- Skill procurement
- PvP

Feel free to add to it. I enjoy the game, but ill save praise for when it’s not an utter joke designed to keep me grinding dailies and gambling for RNG skin tickets.

Look all the anti-fan bois are out together in the same thread. How touching.

Two years from now, this game will still be doing fine. Hopefully by then you’ll have found other games to play that you actually enjoy.

The stuff that you complain about is of concern to players like you and rightly so. Ergo this game might not be for you.

On the other hand, I disagree with most of what you have to say, and so do other people.

It’s not a fact that this game is horribly imbalanced, it’s an opinion. It’s not a fact that rangers can’t run dungeons, because they can run them fine. It’s not fact that Anet is doing terrible things to the game, because some people really like the updates.

You have an opinion that differs from the opinions of others. You feel the need to hang around a game forum and badmouth not only the game, but more importantly people who are enjoying the game.

I’m not going to bad mouth you guys…because there’s no reason to. You just want a different game than this is. Which doesn’t by any means make this a bad game.

And very strange that you state that “I’m not going to bad mouth you guys” yet started out by labelling, then go on to point out that this game isn’t for us, and then, speak on behalf of “other people” claiming that they “really like the updates”.

So, crystal ball aside. Why does the Ranger blow chunks? Why does the combat feel shallow? And why, if all is well in FBville, are there lots of empty WvW areas. Or did we imagine it all???

I don’t know WvW is busy on my server. Not everything things the rangers “blows chunks” there are people in my guild quite happy with the ranger. And the company feels shallow TO YOU. I don’t think is so hard to understand. This is why it’s called an opinion.

You have your opinion and it’s worth about as much as anyone else’s opinion. The difference is, I’m saying you can have your opinion. I’ve been labeled a fan boi so much by some of you that you obviously don’t feel I’m allowed mine. Or it can’t be right because I’m a fan.

It blows chunks because the pet is absolutely worthless unless it’s used to revive someone. When I played my ranger I basically kept it on passive and used the f2 skill or the revive player skill. Of course I had 2 sets of gear on it and played sword/horn when melee and then used bows when I used zerker gear.

The ranger class is just bizarre because it really doesn’t do anything as well as the other classes. They can be fun but only when you have a group that doesn’t care that you’re playing a broken class.

I’m having a blast on my ranger in WvW and I’d prefer my ranger over any other profession there. I also run many dungeons with my ranger, including Arah P4 and 20+ fractals and have no issues with pugs or in guild groups. Yes the profession needs help as many utilities are still useless, but the profession isn’t a joke at all, you can do everything if you play well, terrible players should go find “easier to handle” professions I guess. Go play the easy mode Guardian/Warrior.

Condition specs work, unless you get more than one condition specced char in your group but that can be avoided. Also, Condition specs work very well in sPVP.

I bet you haven’t been to many fights.

Not true at all. I’m using more than 10 utility skills and 4/5 weapon sets on most of my chars (on the Ele I use only 2 different sets) and I would gladly use a way to load/save spec builds quickly, it would certainly help me a lot since I change so much depending on the situation. Again, learn to play.

Most(all?) classes have 3 elite skills and you say 3 of them are viable? Then it’s 100% viability? That’s awesome, but not true, most professions would rather use utility in the elite slot because elites are lacking.

Vertical what?

Lost Shores was a lag fest, that didn’t make it all bad though, one time events should be repeated, with certain changes to eliminate lag.

No trinity means nobody can be carried by the rest of the team, or a group of 7 AI heroes that can make even a total newbie (or someone afk) perform the hardest content ever. Yes, amazing design and trinity in GW1, the afk game.

No you don’t like the game, for someone that hates it so much I wonder why you still play, and post here.

Indeed, there has been a few times (and a few different classes) in which I’ve turned and told guildies that I’d brb as I logged to swap to “something useful” that didn’t feel like it was being carried by everyone else. Guess that’s the joy of having one of each class pretty high up, the downside being that there is only so many times to can bang your head off the wall before you give in (For the 6th time lol).

Feel free to add to it. I enjoy the game, but ill save praise for when it’s not an utter joke designed to keep me grinding dailies and gambling for RNG skin tickets.

If you’re playing a ranger you are being carried in dungeons. I know two players that were never carried that played that class. I know I’ve been carried before on mine and I played mine a lot better than many players I ran dungeons with.

There you have it, the answer!

We’ve just been lazy and haven’t passed level 10, we’re to dumb to play, and we should all just leave!

I’m so glad I came here this morning.

Some people deserve this game.

We’ll stop to sleep when the game is the best possible game we think it can be.

I have a guy in my guild who’s definitely not carried on his ranger. I’ve done dungeons on my ranger and no, I don’t believe I was carried, Particularly because the longer range of my longbow when traited allowed me to hit the destroyer boss in CoE from the stairs, which none of the other professions could do. Made that particular fight much easier, let me tell you.

There are always people who say stuff like what you’re saying. Your OPINIONS are neither better nor more important than anyone else’s.

I dodge just fine from higher up. When you’re lower, he can hit you with other attacks as well. It’s a much easier fight from the stairs. Why advocate doing something the harder way? Masochist much?

The mechanic of making foes invulnerable when you hit them from a spot they cannot reach is easily circumvented by standing on a spot where they will attack but cannot hit you.

I suggest ANet removes the mechanic for better gameplay.

I know this isn’t exactly the right place to be arguing about Riot’s business practices… But I play League of Legends for the same reasons I play Guildwars 2. The company knows how to correctly treat their players, don’t provide pay to win and know stuff about game design. I came to this forum to get away from this nonsense. sigh

1. This is in place to encourage players to play a variety of champions because the free champions rotate and for new players during that first week of playing they will mostly encounter the same champions. Giving you over 100 different characters to have to learn at one time is insane, in a genre infamous for being hard to pick up.

2. Hippalus is a bro. He’s the somewhat recently hired director of marketting. He has set it up so that champions release at 7800 IP, get reduced to 6300 after the first week and other older champions get price reductions. A champion is released every three weeks or so. Additionally, he sorted out the recent mess of skin pricing (which is why he was hired in the first place), three skins ended up getting price increases. They are currently on sale.

3. While this idea seems to have merit, the last champion I remember to be undeniably bad on release was Sejuani. Who has been hated on by the playerbase since, even though she does have merit. That’s not a fun position to be in. They’re also reworking old champions and they seem to basically be brought up to just as much power.

4. Skins are exclusive content for people willing to pay money because they provide no game balance related benefit. You don’t have to buy League of Legends, you can play this game without ever giving the creators a penny. It’s perfectly acceptable for them to make premium content, especially if said content gives no statistical advantage.

5. All runes related content is purchasable with IP and only rune pages (which can be thought of like inventory slots) can be bought with RP. RP can only allow you gain experience and IP faster, it cannot give you it directly. So, new players can be split between those that have nothing, those that have spent money to get faster IP for early runes (which will be almost useless by level 20) and those that are smurfs. Smurfs are a much, much bigger issue than that guy with .8 more AD. Rune pages are in a sense, just like equipment in Guildwars 2 WvW, except gems can be directly converted into gold at a much, much better rate than RP to IP.

I’ve always felt like Riot and Arenanet are in competition. Their last April Fool’s jokes, the Charr and Rengar sharing the same dance, Murrelow a poisonous pet for Rangers (the poison field of which lets you “nerf” healing)… On top of the fact that they both be generally awesome to the community. But you have to remember, their games are completely different. They are both awesome companies, but they can’t solve their problems the same way, it just doesn’t work.

Oh yes. And no subscription fee.

I bet you haven’t been to many fights… …learn to play… …No you don’t like the game, for someone that hates it so much I wonder why you still play, and post here.

There you have it, the answer!

We’ve just been lazy and haven’t passed level 10, we’re to dumb to play, and we should all just leave!

I’m so glad I came here this morning.

Some people deserve this game.

I’m glad you liked it. Obviously if you read my reply it was a response to:

“All fights deteriorate into zerg buttonmashing.”

Which clearly isn’t true if you know how to play the game.

Feel free to add to it. I enjoy the game, but ill save praise for when it’s not an utter joke designed to keep me grinding dailies and gambling for RNG skin tickets.

If you’re playing a ranger you are being carried in dungeons. I know two players that were never carried that played that class. I know I’ve been carried before on mine and I played mine a lot better than many players I ran dungeons with.

Hitting that boss from the stairs might be considered an exploit. I know anything that makes dungeon combat in this game is usually fixed so I hope that works for you on your future runs.

It’s not an exploit. It’s why I traited for 1500 range for that dungeon. It’s a tactic. It’s a regular line of site shots and the boss still attacks me from there using dragon tooth.

I don’t use exploits.

His aoe is easily avoided by using your dodges correctly so you might have wasted a trait for that. Oh well we learn something new everyday :-)

I dodge just fine from higher up. When you’re lower, he can hit you with other attacks as well. It’s a much easier fight from the stairs. Why advocate doing something the harder way? Masochist much?

Actually dodging his aoe isn’t that hard if you know what you’re doing.

Is GW2 a game or a virtual casino?

Drew, I suggest you stop being a masochist and do it from the stairs mate.

Prince Rurik and Lady Althea. Anyone else see the incompatibilty here?
