Why are Hero Point emblems different?
Actually, they just invert. And completely hero points are more ‘full’ than empty ones.
Hero challenges get filled in when you do them; the emblem in the center inverts because otherwise it’d blend into the fill.
Hero challenges, hearts, and vistas function the same – outlines that get filled in. The only difference is that hero challenges have something in the center even when not completed.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Not to me, I have trouble ‘seeing’ what you are calling ‘filling’. The entire point of using ‘icons’ is to make it trivial to identify the target and its map completion status; the current icons for Hero Challenges are harder to see and difficult to distinguish.
It should be much easier to see incomplete challenges and much harder to see the completed ones; currently, they appear close to the same without close inspection. I’m not sure why they don’t use the same model that every other icon uses: highly visible center space is black until completed, then changes color to match or contrast with the outline.
- POI: the center square occupies close to 50% of the area; it’s black when incomplete and orange when full.
- Vista: similarly visible center triangle; it’s black then red.
- WP: center diamond is proportionally larger still; it’s black and then blue.
- Heart: likewise, very large black center fills up to match outline, as completed.
- HC: The old chevron was comparable to the other map completion symbols: Blue outline on mostly dark background, which filled blue when completed.
In contrast for the new one, it’s hard to tell what is foreground and what is background; center is not as proportionally large. The ‘green’ design is difficult to make out, especially when hidden behind map layers or on a jungle background (as is true for 90% of all the new maps).
tl;dr the old HC symbols were either as easy or far easier to use than the new ones.
I don’t like the Hero Point icons. I have trouble finding either the yellow or green ones (core or HoT). They blend in with the green/brown background in a way that the blue ones most definitely did not.
Edit: and I never can remember/can’t tell by looking which one is done and which isn’t. I have to mouse over it to tell.
Core: incomplete and complete (HoT are same but green)
ANet may give it to you.

I have never understood why they changed them. The old blue ones were much better. I too have trouble distinguishing between the complete and incomplete symbols and sometimes have to mouse over them to make certain.
From the very beginning of this change people have been asking to have them turned blue again. That alone would be huge, never mind the fill/hollow issue (which is also a thing but one can eventually train one’s eyes to see the difference. If one can see the icon at all thanks to the blending in gold tone).
I too believe the colour shouldn’t have been changed. I don’t mind the new symbol, but the blue colour for central Tyria was better. And perhaps, magenta instead of green for the Magus Falls maps.
I just don’t understand why they changed the symbol from the skill point symbol, that one was just fine, and easier to see in all maps.

I agree, the new symbols and color choice is weird and hard to spot at first glance whether or not you’ve earned it, especially on the bigger maps. Plus, design wise it does seem backwards from the rest, I thought I was the only one that felt this way.
