I understand that Legendary equipment should be hard to obtain, but why are legendary equipment’s tied to WvW? Every Legendary piece of gear requires a player to traverse WvW in order to obtain the Gift of Battle. Why must I engage in PvP play in order to obtain endgame content?

WvW is predicated upon ensuring you are on a server where that is an interest otherwise you are dominated by the zerg rush of that opposing server anytime you attempt to join that play style in order to gain BoHs from jumping puzzles or otherwise. This is truly ridiculous.

Even worse there is no way to obtain these BoHs other than to do it yourself as they are bound to an account. WvW is perhaps the worst aspect of GW and not something i truly enjoy.

Someone who focuses on WvW might ask why they would need to do PvE for a legendary.

It’s a legendary! You must be legendary in all aspects of the game to get it

(btw, the badges for Gift of Battle are ridiculously easy to get from the jumping puzzle chests. Hint: They do not bind to character)

Just make the WvW Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle. 15+ badges per day.

Okay, a few ragers may try to camp you but… it’s the hardcore part of your legendary I’ve personnally invented a few traps with my ranger skills to kill everyone blocking my road.

Mulch, playing WvW doesn’t make you legendary, you are either o a server populated with player who enjoy PvP or you are not and depending on that you will be either on the side of the zerg or not.

Besides it is endgame content that should not be predicated upon being forced to play the game in a manner you do not intend to play. Otherwise have endgame content suited towards PvP and endgame content suited toward PvE, dont tie them together.

It’s obvious that ANet considers WvW to be part of the “PvE World”.

Just look at balance, the fact that you can farm gold in PvE to spend in WvW to buy siege and upgrades, the fact that your gear & character carries over to WvW, etc.

Also the PvE system is once again almost a tutorial for WvW – how often do you escort dolyaks, protect points, and man siege engines in the various events in PvE?

ANet obviously intended WvW to complement PvE and vice versa. I’m sure they were really confused when all those people hit 80 and complained about lack of endgame – “Why aren’t they playing WvW?!?”

Makes about as much sense to me as forcing people to log into WvW in the first place to complete the world map.

map completion should be pve only. This is just another attempt at forcing people to play in an area they don’t want to play.

It’s wrong and should be changed.

They have also said its not meant to be balanced around gear multiple times…. thats what spvp is meant for.

Not sure why people haven’t quite gotten to terms with this…

This. If you’re not willing to put in the effort to do WvW, then maybe you’re not qualified to be deemed “legendary?”

As for the jumping puzzles, the EB jumping puzzle has a perma-stealth that you can use to avoid people. You’ll lose access to swiftness, but the jumping puzzle is completely do-able without swiftness.

Ursan I have not seen this Perma-Stealth you are speaking of to avoid people. I would love it if you point it out to me.

As for ArenaNet considering WvW part of the PvE environment, nothing is more ridiculous…There is NO balance to WvW! None! get on the server with the most people active in WvW and its a bore, be on the opposing server where people are not interested and its annoying! That is WvW at best right now! At its worst it is a dynamic event zerg rush from point a to point b.

I am also unsure how this works out when stats that are useful in PvE are utterly pointless in PvP against other players. You literally have to carry stats for PvE and stats for PvP. Gear for PvE and Gear for PvP, especially given the need for MF on items in order to loot items for rares. Carry that MF gear into a dungeon or WvW and you are an idiot, there is no direct translation. Its not login as my character and walkabout however you like between the two, otherwise there would not be this necessity to interrupt game flow by having to connect to a separate access point for WvW. By that very idea it is not apart of PvE

WvW is PvE. Just because it involves other people you may have to kill doesn’t change that fact. There are plenty of ways to earn badges without actually killing players (jumping puzzles, killing off guild supervisor guys in supply camps/keep lords in keeps). If you take your time, do a little bit of research, familiarize yourself, and actually work towards your goal, you can achieve it. It just takes a little bit of effort. Which many in this forums seem allergic to (with the WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS TO GET THIS ACHIEVEMENT-esque posts and whatnot).

Anyways, forgive me for my mini-rant. When you first go into the EB jumping puzzle, you have two paths. One goes left and one goes right. The paths aren’t obvious (they are jumping puzzles afterall) but they are there. The one that goes left is what will get you deeper into the puzzle. The one that goes right gets you to a place where you can get that perma-stealth I mentioned. Try it out, avoid jerks, and good luck.

I think you misunderstood my intended point.

Legendary items require that you do all aspects of the game that aren’t pvp (I actually kinda wish it required something from tournament chests).

You have to wvw a moderate amount to get those badges
You have to dungeon a moderate amount to get the tokens
You have to earn karma regularly
You have to 400 crafting
You have to 100% explore the world
You have to grind a lot of mats/gold
With all of this, you’ll also need a precursor.

It’s an all-around challenge. You don’t have to be good at anything (no speed challenges, skill challenges, or kill/death ratio), but you have to do a lot of GW2.

so the way to do the jumping puzzles which are PvP is to be forced into playing a game of civilization? If i wanted to play civilization then I would play that. As the video says, there is no point to this game play when we are discussing access to endgame content that you really are trying to access just for skin style really. set up siege weapons and equipment in the jumping puzzles in order to get BoHs that as the video says are BJs?

I may have misunderstood. Sorry for appearing hostile if I did. I have done all the other requirements. I am down for the grinding of Mats, however adding the element of WvW which is predicated upon PvP which is unbalanced due to its nature of server v server play and player interest is a bit ridiculous. I could go on an make toon after toon in order to obtain these BoHs, but Iam dealing with an element that isnt worthy even of grind. I am forced into a play style (PvP) which is predicated upon the general interest of others to be involved. If ppl on my server are not interested in PvP then they are not interested, I cant generate interest in that respect. Thats the reason why games make dungeons with auto-party finders.

1). It’s the ultimate item tier. So yes, it takes work, and a lot of it. You may not like it all, but it’s how it is. Bypassing the pvp part by doing the JPs is an option, or harass camp for the badges. If needed, switch servers for it… plenty of ways. The worst part imo is that you need to do wvw map completion for it, so you have bad luck if your server never holds certain keeps.

2). It’s unclear how ascended items might function in this respect. If I’m correct to guess they offer another path (through upgrades), this might not require WvW.

So you’re stuck with lurking the forums for a server where it might work and try to server hop around every 7 days.

I just found out from two of my guildmembers that they will indeed be looking to transfer servers for the 7 days in order to get these obsidian shards. Despite protests I can’t stop them – they want to make their Legendary weapons. So now my guild loses them for a week for WvW. This item requirement seems so broken to me. It means there is an area population bias in order to obtain an item.

Between this and the ongoing issues with the lack of enforcement about skill-hacking, I am not buying another thing from BLT until I see some evidence of progress in at least both these areas.

Exactly so I leave my guild because our server does not participate in WvW? That is not balance! In order to be competitive in WvW I have to play the server jump? Besides, I am not getting Badge of Honor for actual PvP, these are for completing complicated dungeons. These could have been situated anywhere in the PvE environment and we would still be doing complicated jumping puzzles and earning badges of honor. Instead in order to force WvW on players which means a lot of uncommitted players they place them in WvW? If not for that I wonder how many players would actually be in WvW? I much rather the SPvP than WvW, WvW is garbage!

I would much rather have complicated Dungeons than be put through unbalanced, uninspired PvP setting like WvW. ArenaNet could scrap that and GW2 would still be a great game. There is nothing appealing about having players have to switch servers in order to be competitive in WvW. Where is the balance for servers which do not have active and large participation in WvW?

I don’t think they threw wvw out. It’s just really rather bad with the game as it currently plays. Once they fix queues, culling, etc., I’m hopeful it will suck less and get to be actually a good part of the game to play. It’s a feature that’s missing from successful western mmos.

I’m sorry, but it seems that you’re making the assumption that your server has to be “competitive” in WvW in order to earn badges.

That is far from true. You earn badges through the following methods.

1. killing players
2. completing jumping puzzles
3. killing supply camp/keep supervisors.

1. Killing players is easy even if your server sucks utterly. In fact, it’s somewhat easier. If your server sucks utterly, you should be pushed right outside your spawn, and the battle’s always there anyways. So go there, join the fight, try to pick off a few people, and hope for loot bags.

2. The borderland jumping puzzles may be challenging. But the EB JP, as I stated previously, has a perma-stealth which you can obtain so that you don’t have to bother with jerks who grief people in there.

3. This is probably the hardest to do in a underpopulated server. But a good group of 4-5 people can sneak past the enemy and take over supply camps deep in their enemy territory. And again, it’s actually easier to do because the more their servers dominate, the less people they’re likely to have defending these sites. Hit the supply camps, make sure you hit the supervisor to loot him for the badges.

I think you’ve made it plenty clear in your posts you don’t like WvW. We understand. But this whining won’t change anything. Legendaries are for people who participate in all aspects of the game (except PvP). if there are some aspects you don’t like to do… Well, that’s too bad isn’t it? What I suggest to you is again, do your research, put in some effort, perhaps get some friends to help you, and DO IT, instead of coming here and whining about how unfair it is.

And perhaps after all that hard work, the reward will be that much sweeter.

Ursan….

1. killing players when you are 1 against 20 is not easy. Worst still is the system of these loot bag which are dropped which also must be collected. I got 2 badges of honor because I found a loot bag someone didn’t get to pick up. Ridiculous reward system.

2. Completing jumping puzzles would be nice and easy if not for the campers which were discussed earlier. When you have mobs of guilds camping nodes and jumping puzzles in order to attack players getting through those puzzles is made near impossible if you do not have players on your server actively participating in order to repel those forces.

3. I have no clue about this, nor the drop rate for killing supply camps or supervisors, let alone whether this is a viable option, from every indication in research other than trial and error this is hardly a thing a person can do alone.

I have done the EB stealth option, that worked great today, right up until the guilds in packs of 5-10 players began camping the stealth pools. It worked great for a time. I do not mind the jumping puzzles being challenging, but what does completing a jumping puzzle have to do with PvP, those could have been placed in the PvE environment,.

I think perhaps you forget the purpose of a forum board, it is to EXPRESS OPINION! You have one, I have one. We can agree or disagree about these points. If you got that loot bag, it means you contributed enough to that kill in order to get that loot bag. If you didn’t contribute anything to a kill, that loot bag will not show up, so it’s impossible for you to pick up someone else’s loot bag.

What server are you on anyways? I find it hard to believe you’re in a 1 vs 20 fight, even outside your spawn point. Even if that is the case, there are Legendary Defender NPCs that pretty much 1-shot people. If you lure people in by hitting him a few times, you should get a loot bag for that.

Another option is to avoid big fights all together. Like I said before, bring a few friends. Camp supply lines. Usually 1-2 players pass along. You can jump them and kill them quickly.

I understand your frustration, and I understand you hate WvW. I’m not disagreeing with you on anything. You can hate on WvW all you like. Ursuan… I am on Gate of Madness. I am not saying there are not fun elements of WvW for people who enjoy that type of game play. I believe there are people who choose and enjoy the Siege-PvP aspects of WvW. I do not dislike PvP in its entirety. The way it is constructed in GW2, in my opinion is horrible, at least with respect to WvW. The SPvP sounds like a fun side game.

Here is my day yesterday; Starting around 10AM trying to do the EB jumping puzzle. I consistently ran into mobs of guilds within the jumping puzzle ranging from 5-10 players where the best effort mustered by finding members of my server amounted to 3-4 of us traversing the EB puzzle before running into a group of 10 waiting at the top of the spiral well to ambush us.

At one point I was ‘partied’ with members of the other server after pleading with them to stop PvPing in an effort to learn and experience the EB jumping puzzle. That didn’t last long however as I was attacked from behind by one of their server buddies and they could not revive me which took me back to the beginning where I was continually killed.

Thats when you suggested I use the stealth pools, which worked just fine to get me to parts the latter parts, however after failing and going back, the opposing team realized there were stealth players using the pool so they began using the protective bubble utilities to impede progress and then began camping the stealth pools.

The point of this all still being, that PvE is one play style, and PvP is another play style. Being subjected to one or the other in order to access end-game content is ridiculous in my opinion. ArenaNet can not use the argument that WvW is part of the PvE environment when everything about it removes the player from the PvE environment. From logging into the queue, to the PvP gear, to the need to retrain skills from PvE to PvP. Jumping Puzzles have nothing to do with PvP, these could be instituted anywhere in the world in hard to reach places. Instead its a land grab, control mechanism in WvW which is enticed by players to acquire unique end game skins?

I am thankful that Ascended gear is being introduced and hope that ArenaNet keeps the two play styles separate, or they can unaccount bind the Badges of Honor and make them for purchase on the TP. I am sure that would work better for their bottom-line on Gem purchases.

By the way Ursuan…I guarantee you I was nowhere near where this loot bag was in order to even fight and participate in that battle. It was an area of the EB puzzle I had never been before and the bag was discovered at that point.

My position is the exact reverse of yours. I’m an intense WvWer, got my 500 badges before I even reached level 80. For most of the part, being out-manned actually made obtaining badges even easier, and being in a low pop server was no deterrent at all. Now I’m hitting my head against the wall completing dungeons and trying to get map completion, which I just find completely boring. I’m being forced to waste time in low level areas which I have absolutely no interest in exploring.

However, the requirements for the legendary makes sense – this is a major end content reward, a long term goal you aspire to by mastering the entire game. It’s a simple skin, no one’s forcing you to get it and you won’t be worse off without it, but attaining it is a symbol of your awesomeness and it therefore has to reflect that in terms of its requirements.

Also regarding your mysterious loot bag, the system works differently to the PvE system. Any loot that drops automatically spawns at your CURRENT location in the form of bags, no matter where you are or how far away you are. It’s to simplify looting when you’re in the heat of battle, so you don’t have to run over corpses.

Nothing wrong with legendary tied to badges of jumping. Jumping puzzle is a very noticeable chunk of content in this game and you should prove you are worthy wield your legendary by acquiring those jumping rewards.

Watch the answers…

All of these points are part of the game progress… Dungeons are part of the story mode, exploration of these dungeons are also part of the story mode. Notice if I want specific looking gear from a faction area I do the dungeons in those areas, or I explore the natural flow of the playable world present throughout the story of the game in order to achieve these things. Even in the case of Karma and crafting these come as natural accumulation of doing the world game play story or exploration.

If you told me the WvW elements were part of the normal world map and these JPs were within the world and PvP was going on within the normal course of the map, I would have no room for argument. But I am joining a distinct map out of play of the normal gameflow. Dungeons are situated within the normal map.

Thanks for the opinion though because I know there are people who do not care to play dungeons, I am not sure why as they are part of the story and in some cases linked to the dynamic events of the normal world play. The grinding can be irritating but I enjoy that aspect to some degree. I do not care for Mob PvP.

I wrote this on a post before.

IF I choose I can log onto the opposing server this weekend. I can then choose not to attack any of the players from my server. I can farm all the mats needed, along with controlled POIs/Vista’s. After doing so I can then join back with my server and continue about playing the game. Is this the play placing JPs in WvW is meant to inspire?

Also regarding your mysterious loot bag, the system works differently to the PvE system. Any loot that drops automatically spawns at your CURRENT location in the form of bags, no matter where you are or how far away you are. It’s to simplify looting when you’re in the heat of battle, so you don’t have to run over corpses.

OPC…

I am not sure how I can check my KD stats, but I am almost 90% positive I never killed anyone. The weird part about this bag was it was on a part of the JP I never traversed. So this type of system assumes I killed someone and then randomly drops a loot bag somewhere along my path to pick up?

On another note, I love doing the JPs and vista’s. I spend a good amount of time looking for these, as I spent a good amount of time trying to do the Mad King JP. I am not arguing that these should be an element of the game. They are the most fun, especially when I can do my Assassin Creed like jump off them into a body of water. I just dislike that they are not part of the normal PvE gameplay Map and are placed within the unbalanced, disjointed WvW PvP environment.

I am not even against PvP. I have played on DCUO’s PVP servers with characters. I have even done PvP in other MMOs as old as Neverwinter Nights and before that.

I feel your pain. You enjoy the PvP. I do not disagree. You should not be forced to play my preferred PvE play style no more than I should be forced to yours. There should be distinct Legendary PvP and PvE gear. DCUO did this correctly in my opinion.

Lets stop acting as if this is anything more than grinding. There is nothing about the game play that makes these items so legendary in my actions. I already pointed out the easy workaround. Joining the dominant side server will easily make the JPs more accessible, and farming them past that point is simple enough once you know the JP well enough.

The point is should the placement inspire this sort of actions. Should I as a player who wants the Legendary Skin have to switch server to the dominant side server, because lets face it these are lopsided battles in most instances, in order to grind for mats?

It’s just the way it is. Do it, or not. Arguing with people about it nets you zero, and costs you time. It’s not like this is the first time someone cried about having to wvw for legendaries.

Suck it up or do without. If they change the system to where it only takes pve to get a legendary, then it’s power should be reduced to show it was achieved half arsed. The only thing stopping you from achieving a legendary is your own attitude.

why are ascended gears tie to PvE contents only?

According to Chris Whiteside’s response to this question during yesterday’s Reddit MMA, they regret having introduced ascended gear to only one facet of the game. He said this was “a mistake” and that they will be adding access to this gear to other venues ASAP.

Nooo! Not WvW! There might be someone there that might actually be able to fight me! I only want ridiculously easy to fight AI enemies who have the intelligence of a brick!

@OP

Loot bags in WvW, unlike in PvE, appear where you are when a target you did enough damage to dies. If you are on top of a wall trebing people at max distance, for instance, the loot bags from your kills will appear at your feet. If you got a loot bag, you did damage to the target that yielded it, even if you had moved away.

playing WvW doesn’t make you legendary

“Legendary” is being used a tad loosely don’t you think?

How is auto-attacking non-challenging content for hours and hours … or spending real-world currency on gold to buy materials … or grinding a dungeon you can sleep through because you know it so well “legendary”?

Watch the answers…

The “normal world map” is a bunch of individual maps, with artificial boundaries, pressed up against each other and accessed via clear/blue’ish portals between each other.

WvW maps are individual maps, with artificial boundaries, accessed via colored portals.

So … is WvW not “normal world map” because they aren’t pressed against the other “normal world map” zones? Is it the color of the portals that make them different?

Or are you going with the story-mode “lore” part of things? Lore-wise: WvW happens “in the mists” where worlds battle each other for resources and stuff. There, boom, it is part of the Lore and story of Guild Wars.

Thanks for the opinion though because I know there are people who do not care to play dungeons, I am not sure why as they are part of the story and in some cases linked to the dynamic events of the normal world play. Don’t want to WvW? Don’t.

You don’t get a Legendary though. Want one? Suck it up.

Tip: Find friends that do it, go with them, you can play perfectly fine in small numbers. You do not have to be part of the “mob”.

I don’t understand why people complain so much about legendaries, “it’s to hard” that and “it’s to hard” this. It’s suppose to be hard. I would freaking hate if everyone just had a legendary running around.

If you don’t want to do WvW, you don’t have to.

You also don’t get a Legendary.

That’s how the game is designed.
