There are a TON of players who farm the dragon chests. They’ll wait for hours just for Jormag, Teq, and the Shatterer. All 3 of those fights take a long time and give a chest at the end. There are many other fights that give the exact same reward, and are MUCH easier. The Flame Elemental in the Asura starting zone, the big worm in the Sylvari area, the Shadow Behemoth, I know the Charr and Norn areas have one too.

Why are people only going after the dragons when they’re harder, it’s like they don’t even know about the others. I say in chat that Shatt is up, and like 20 people come out, I say flame elemental is up, and nobody, even though the fight is WAY easier and gives the EXACT SAME reward.

Please spread the word of these events around, I’d like to see the popularity of these bosses go up, as 2-3 manning them isn’t much fun lol.

I have never died during a dragon fight. They go really pretty quickly, and there’s timers set up on the web to help you time it. There is no easier fight in the game, just equip scepter on my guardian and press 1.

I’ll do Shadow Behemoth if I’m in the area. It takes longer IME than Tequatl or Shatterer, cuz as the top post says, you’ll end up with a small group of characters in the fight.

Never hear of the others, to be honest.

but the dragons arent hard at all.

a zerg can defeat anything in this game, even the Eye of Zhaitan with his Retaliation still goes down to a zerg.

Higher level of event – more karma, exp and coin.
People tend to believe that reward for dragons is better than for some worm, though all loot in GW2 is ridiculously cheap.
Dragons fights are kinda epic, at least first 3 times (so I prefer not to do those events too often).

And yes, those events now not challenging at all, I’m glad I did those when there was only 10 people for an event.

Chests aren’t worth it anyways lol, although I think they said somewhere that they were working to change that eventually. It’s actually faster and better to do normal events for those blues, greens, and rares.

Also, in my opinion many of the big boss battles in this game are pretty boring and/or not designed very well. They could have done so much more with Jormag and similar large scale events, but they all seem kind of lack luster. There have been several suggestion threads about this in the suggestion forums too, so I won’t really get into it.

Are you talking about the big fire boss that spams aoe and has alot of adds? To me thats the hardest boss in the game, atleast when I tried it at lvl 30.

I believe its possible to get a precursor from the chests like it is possible to get one from some of the temple chests.

If not…then I a see no point other than “its a dragon!”.

I definitely agree with the OP.

And wish that the tracker sites would include ALL the zone bosses that have chests.

Even if the higher lvl ones give more karma/gold/whatever, why limit yourself to those three? There is usually a huge time gap between them so why not hit up the others throughout the world – there is no opportunity loss by doing so.

The Flame Elemental is hard at low levels, and if you’re still getting used to it. But at lvl 80 and after a bit of practice, it gets easier – I promise. Last time I did it, it was me an two other random people, and it was down within five minutes.

jormag – Spawns drop corrupted lodestones. End chest has chance of precursors
Same for the other dragons. I dont believe that world bosses outside of the dragons or those in Orr have chests with precursor chances.

Why go kill a wurm for his chest when there’s a chance that the dragons may make me a good 300g richer?

The biggest problem with the Metrica Fire Ele is that it’s very easy to get griefed, whether accidentally or on purpose.

Tequatl and The Shatterer are practically no-fail. They’re just loot punching bags, sadly, with the amount of people that flock to them

Claw of Jormag is a bit tougher, but still falls to a “zerg”. It’s just annoying when half the people afk-range on the “safe” perch, only to come back and whine because he’s not dead yet, because only 3-5 people are trying to manage all the ice pillars.

I’ve stopped bothering to do Claw of Jormag (not to mention the others)…the corrupted lodestones never drop from the icebrood veterans/champions that I can tell and the chest is filled with useless garbage every time (yay, three blues!).

I didn’t even need to read your full post or what anybody else had to say. I bet you 80% of those people you saw waiting were bots. 20% wanted to know what was all the commotion about. In lower starting zones there are more bots than players I bet ya and in the highest level zones there are quite a few bots there to.

The dragon chests can drop precursor items required for legendaries worth often over 100g, I don’t believe the starter zone raid bosses do.

This. Though I did get a corrupted lodestone the other day from one of the crystal prequest. I sold it on the TP for 70s since that was the highest buying offer.

The dragon chests can give precurors. So some newbie luck out and get the collossus at claw of jormag. But its pretty rare. Probably did Claw of Jormag 50+ times and only saw this one person posting a precursor drop.

Cant say for anyone else, but the dragons seem to have timers. Rooba that lazy asura must not own a watch. The fire elemental could go off twice in 15 minutes or not at all. So when i get bored and look for something to do it is usually a dragon. They are all easier then the fire elemental anyway

I shot the fire ele once. Then he turned his fiery glare upon me and I burned to ash. Then he had his little minions come and mop up the mess.

Dragons are easy. Fire ele will toast you in seconds. Plus, I would rather have a chance at a precursor weapon. Which ever one I find first decides which build I go with! hahaha

I’ve wondered this exact same thing. It’s probably because of the ease of following everyone around to do dragons. There are timers set up for them and everything.

For example, if I feel like farming some and am lazy to go find something to do. I check the dragon timers. If one’s within ~20 minutes of starting I go there and just chill until he decides to show up. I would love to know when other bosses are up though. Shadow behemoth could easily have a timer. I’d code the hell out of that right now if I could.

I think mainly because the spawn times for the dragons are predictable (most of the time), travelling around via asura gates is expensive or time-intensive if we hoof it. If there was a way to globally see the spawning of the other map bosses other than going to the map itself, more people would probably do them.

Plus those dragons got better chest rewards which covers the the cost of gate travel to that map.

While the cost of traveling is covered the gain/time ratio is way off.

ahhahahha, dragons ? harder ? come on…. Dragons are easywin.
Zerg and loot ! I just wish they were more fun : / Cool looking though but that’s it.

The problem is that the global loot tables in gw2 really reaaaaally suck.

Basically always random blue/green, sometimes yellow items. Nothing exciting. Rewards need to be more interesting.

Examples (just some ideas) :

  • Create a new fancy armor skin, split it in a few pieces and give us a chance to loot them at certain boss events.
  • Create new crafting recipies that you can only get inside event chests

Arenanet could be more creative than “2blue 1 green 24/7” really…

Agreed. I even made a thread called “Garbage Collectors, not Heroes, of Tyria”. That’s what my character feels like… someone that goes out and collects useless garbage for endless hours in order to sell for a few copper, in the hopes that eventually it will add up enough to buy a tiny fraction of what I actually need to make something I want.

Not to mention that all interesting skins being some recipe for the Mystic Forge makes it so it’s all reduced to a boring gold grind. Grind garbage items, sell for copper and eventually, after tens of thousands of such garbage junk items, you have enough to go look up some static recipe on the wiki, throw a pile of crap at the genie and get a skin.

It’s not very “heroic” or interesting that every single neat thing in the game is relegated to a grind for garbage loot in order to fill out the spreadsheet Mystic Forge recipe.

The loot is really horrible in GW2, it’s never interesting or something you want to keep or are excited about getting. At best it’s something you’re going to sell or salvage for a 10s or so.

I think the game honestly has some of the worst rewards I’ve ever seen in an RPG in my 23+ years of playing them.

I stopped doing dragons.

Why waste that much time on dragons when I can run AC in like 15-20 mins and earn more money? Now one bonus against the dungeons is that all mobs in the dragon event are 80 and often drop level 80 loot to sell, but with Ecto prices now it doesn’t really matter anymore.

I mean there’s so much diversity of loot but it’s all trapped within the TP and Mystic Forge… You should play the mystic forge as a way to get an extra chance, but instead it’s essentially the endgame skin generator.

Yeah that’s how I feel Bruno, and I don’t really like it. I feel that it’s just a really lazy way to make it so there’s no effort involved on the designer/developer end in setting up new cosmetic items.

Instead of having to actually make content for players to complete in order to get these cool rewards, they just pop open the Mystic Forge recipe maker and enter in the components and the final item.

Then players are expected to do the same Garbage Collection Grind for every skin. It’s not interesting or exciting, and also isn’t fun.
