Why are people so mad
People expressing their opinion.
We see change. Those of us who don’t like the changes speak up.
True, respect should be observed at all times, but when an update makes the game less fun, I’m going to say it.
SWTOR was already dying when it was only about 4 months old. That’s when EA started firing people in the SWTOR studio as part of their cost-cutting measures to keep the game from sinking, and it eventually led to the F2P model you see now.
You get a few months to make your game stand out from the crowd, or else fall into that crowd and fight amongst your competitors for WoW’s scraps. At the half-year mark, time’s up.
GW2 will be made or broken by these three months of patches, and it will decide how this game will develop from there and where this game will end up. So naturally, people are going to be more than a bit vocal.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
(edited by critickitten.1498)
I enjoy the game and constructive criticism.
There are plenty of critical comments that come from a place of malice as well…from people who I think log on for 10 minutes at the implementation of each patch and then spend the next 10 days bashing the game.
But it is the internet and these are forums.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
It’s usually the angriest types of players that get heard or seen more easily. The majority that don’t have an issue are in-game playing lol. There are few that don’t have an issue and try to reason and calm the angry players are here on forums, and we see the worst of it I think.
It does get tiring though, so sometimes I just stop going on forums and arguing back and forth because it gets no where usually.
Kids are gonna cry when they get their candy taken from them.
And apparently when more free candy is given to them.
Long story short nothing is ever good enough and people will always find ways to complain about something.

Why is everyone freaking out about this update? All I see on this forum are posts like “game going in complete wrong direction” and garbage like that….
This game is 5 months old…5 months. Please just give it some time
5 months old, it’s been LIVE and kicking for 5 months now, and we’re STILL finding the same issues plaguing it, should we ignore them? take less offense when new updates ADD to the issues or create new ones?
Nothing is perfect, but it takes REAL talent to annoy this many people at once REPEATEDLY. That talent deserves recognition xD

And there will always be at least one dude whom isn’t affected or is blissfully ignorant claiming that everyone is being melodramatic apparently :P
Was there a point to your comment though or where you just here to stir the pot?

What scale are we talking about though? Let’s say we have an average of 5% of the population that are always angry. Now, the bigger your population, the bigger the complaint and the louder they complain, right?
Nothing’s perfect, and that’s true. But also the things that people complain about are things that other people like or are fine with… The game isn’t going to magically go the way any individual wants. It’ll head towards a general direction that is positive for most players, and that’s what GW2 has been doing despite a few hiccups here and there.
Now, you could argue against what I just said, but I could just counter-argue, and then you’d counter-argue that… and the process repeats.

My point is that despite any amount of good in something people will always point out the bad in a very poor way. If criticisms and requests were done properly on this forum I wouldn’t have said what I did originally.
But that’s not the case.

My only solace is that everyone else is weaker too now. If you ask me, they deserve it for allowing them to weaken their character and make grinding for all those items more time consuming. The few outspoken naive have doomed you as well to have less power in the game in -every- area.
The only reason you should be upset is if you actually spent (or are spending) time accomplishing anything, if you haven’t been playing the game or are level 2, you might as well be overjoyed.
Ask yourself, why didn’t they simply add a difficulty slider that changed the way down-leveling worked? Things worked before? Other games have done this with great success. What is the end mission?

I am enjoying the game and I am happy the folks are not letting it get stale. That said, I am looking for a guild with active but casual users. I am perhaps not the best player but I am on pretty frequently and would hope to find a guild of similar users. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
I’m mad because people can now boot a pug in fractals and replace him with a guildie or a friend to get the final rewards, guardian spirit weapons are nerfed and you see kitten like +20% magic find.
A.NET is set to kitten off certain people I’m seeing.

Well in about 30 minutes of doing the Combo Killer daily several seemingly obvious issues came to mind. Those issues didn’t even have anything to do with that achievement’s buggy nature. Would have been nice if the designer had spent at least that much time thinking about it.
Maybe because we heard for years “when it’s ready”, then it was released and it wasn’t ready…
Now its “we’ll get to that eventually…honest..”….
Wait another 6 months for this game to be what it was suppose to? No thanks.

Yep they have not thought this through at all…..

Didn’t take me even that long. I logged in, saw the requirement, read its description, and thought “wow, that’s a terrible idea, and I’ll bet it doesn’t even work properly”.
Then I checked the forums and, lo and behold, it’s bugged up the wazoo.
Anyone who put a solid degree of thought behind this could have told the devs that it was a bad idea. All they had to do was start a thread in this forum saying “hey, we’re thinking about these dailies, what do you think?” and bam, you’ve just created dialogue and completely avoided this headache.
They may have improved communication (in that they actually visit the forums now) but we’re still a loooong way from a legitimate dialogue between devs and players, it seems. And GW2 doesn’t have much longer left to build that dialogue.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Ill tell you why we’re mad…
Because I’m getting a stupid quaggan backpack and a kitten flying broom, plus a bunch of shiny useless crap instead of fixing actual bugs and balancing in the game.
(AND I know that Anet is split into different teams for things, like there’s a group that works for pvp, there’s dungeon designers and so on, but it just doesn’t look good when your game is basically broken and you keep pumping out shiny things as if that’s what’s going to keep you interested.)
However, I’ll speak as a Fractal frequenter…
It still sucks, completely. Balancing is terrible, there’s bugs everywhere. I believe it’s kitten kittening sad that in order to play through the higher fractals the only way to get through them was through exploits…
I’m done with Fractals. I’m done, they’re not worth it anymore. Much like how I feel about this game. And it’s sad, because at release I really enjoyed the game, and I enjoy the people I play with. Made some good friends so far, and i feel like they’re the only thing keeping me here.
Maybe because we heard for years “when it’s ready”, then it was released and it wasn’t ready…
Now its “we’ll get to that eventually…honest..”….

Don’t forget stuff like this, I wonder if we’ll ever see the city-based activities that “were in the game” during 2010 and “will be there at launch”.
That would probably be due to the fact that there was a sweeping nerf to the overall effectiveness of every player included in the notes on the dynamic leveling.
In effect, you are weaker if you bothered playing and leveling and farming your exotics and fractal gear. Everywhere in the game. Isn’t that fantastic of them to do to your character?
You are stronger if you didn’t bother to do anything and are lvl 2 doing a lvl 80 dungeon.
This same method has been used in some countries and systems, and everyone there now spends their time to become doctors to help the overall structure of mankind. It doesn’t matter that their reward is smaller, they just care about you. Thats how the world works, its in a perfect ideal state where everyone is fine with spending time on something and seeing no rewards in power.
Ha..
Ha..
Ha…< o >
/ |
I know they said scaling down will be stronger but I have not noticed this as yet and we ARE getting the bonus of getting lvl 80 drops on EVERY map if you are lvl 80. So as far as I can see this is win win.
Example I am still 1 hitting some noob mobs in queensdale and 2-3 the rest……
Anyone who put a solid degree of thought behind this could have told the devs that it was a bad idea. All they had to do was start a thread in this forum saying “hey, we’re thinking about these dailies, what do you think?” and bam, you’ve just created dialogue and completely avoided this headache.
I would actually prefer if they didn’t do that. Seen too many stupid suggestions in the suggestions section. I WOULD like the designers to be aware of the different ways ALL the various professions are played and how content would impact them across the board.
They may have improved communication (in that they actually visit the forums now) but we’re still a loooong way from a legitimate dialogue between devs and players, it seems. And GW2 doesn’t have much longer left to build that dialogue.
I don’t see it that way but then I’ve spent around 7 years playing GW1 without any sort of communications.
Kids are gonna cry when they get their candy taken from them.
And apparently when more free candy is given to them.
Long story short nothing is ever good enough and people will always find ways to complain about something.
I agree with Mkalafut. There is never a reason to complain about anything. Adults don’t ever complain and if they do it’s because someone has taken their candy, err, something they value, away from them.
Maybe because we heard for years “when it’s ready”, then it was released and it wasn’t ready…
Now its “we’ll get to that eventually…honest..”….

It feels like a bunch of broken promises and the whole “one step forward, two steps back” deal with Anet as of late. (and by “as of late” I mean the last 5 months)
My “give anet some time” meter is running really kitten low now.
I’m seriously considering The Elder Scrolls…
That or just heading over to Eq2 and f2p.
Don’t get me wrong, I really have a soft spot for this game, my friends keep me coming back, I love the lore and the game itself really is beautiful.
But there’s only so much looks can do for you.
I really want them to fix the issues, because I really want to stay, but I can’t stand 6 more months of the same bugs.
Buy the game, play for a while, the content is not fixed fast enough/or to the public’s liking.
“It’s a free game, you’re not paying a monthly fee!”
6 months later when the expansion comes out asking for another $50, saying that it addresses the problems from the community outcry, when by that time there has been a year and multiple patches of inconsequential matter that have been ignored, broke more things or found ‘perceived’. (Hi loot rate/diminishing return bug!)
Can’t dangle that carrot forever before people find out they can find their carrots elsewhere.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
Anyone who put a solid degree of thought behind this could have told the devs that it was a bad idea. All they had to do was start a thread in this forum saying “hey, we’re thinking about these dailies, what do you think?” and bam, you’ve just created dialogue and completely avoided this headache.
I kinda gotta disagee on this.
Let’s exchange a discussion about Dailies for a discussion about “hey, we’re thinking about removing waypoint zerging, what do you think?”
What do you think the general consensus about that would be, given how everyone is complaining about it now?
People would have just said “na, it’s fine as it is”.
Personally, I’d have loved to see more Dailies targeted at livening up previous areas (Do / Kill / Gather x Hearts / Events / Enemies / Nodes in y Area, where y would be randomised for each player) since that was the aim of these systems (correct me if I’m wrong).
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

I find that this post is made on faith, and making up numbers to fit that faith as opposed to solid data. Perhaps wonderfully transparent and helpful A-net can help you with those figures? can’t help but to try and ask could it?
“and thus kenshinakh’s odyssey would begin, and not end for several more years in an incident that involves a fellony, stalking and an illegal weapon”
Personally, I’d have loved to see more Dailies targeted at livening up previous areas (Do / Kill / Gather x Hearts / Events / Enemies / Nodes in y Area, where y would be randomised for each player) since that was the aim of these systems (correct me if I’m wrong).
Well remember when you had 30 bots sitting at that dang broken bridge killing centaurs in that Krytan area?
Think of that, but double the amount of people, and make none of them bots.
I think that’s what will happen if you say “DAILY IS THIS EVENT AND THIS LOCATION.”
And that’s bad.
Because it’s the internet and they can vent 1000x crazier and more over the top than real life since they never have to look back on the stuff they write.
You have to take the internet with an industrial sized grain of salt.
Yes, which wouldn’t put you far off the normal difficulty of those low level areas. There was already 3 hitting mobs at low level areas for most dps classes.
The scaling uses percentages. You will still feel strong in low level areas. During later levels, you are much weaker than you used to be. That is the problem. Your time spent gaining power has decreased in meaning. In effect time has been stolen from you if you look at it in one way.
It will also help encourage zerg based combat, which we all know is ALWAYS fun.
In essence: Here are some shinies in the new patch, now stare at them while we nerf a few important things that if you weren’t so naive would realize are far more important in the long run.
Thats the game. Its how the romans did politics. I recognize this. I used to use these methods. A wolf recognizes a wolf. Distractions are powerful. If you want to get something accomplished that would displease the masses, hide it between two pieces of candy. The masses are fickle and dull. Their psyches will choose to ignore the bad and focus on the good.
Simple to placate, difficult to anger.

As said earlier by critickitten, Guild Wars 2’s window is shutting quickly and it needs to make a mark on the MMO community. bravoart is right also, everything is fine since GW2 is buy to play, but what happens when the same issues are around when there is an expansion? Or are we no longer suppose to think about the future … That’s the problem, People who are complaining now are afraid for the future of the game, not just now. They have a right to be worried.
