Why are there bots?
GW1 had bots. For example, there was a time when you’d run into a conga line of bot monks at Elona Reach.
i think he’s asking why botting is so much more rampant in GW2 than in the previous game…

Yeah, but they just banned the bots and they were gone.. i haven’t seen a bot in GW1 in all my years of playing. I know there were some, but never for long.
There were tons of bots in GW1. Did you never check ID1 Droks or Bergen hot springs?
Probably still there to this day,
Because Anet wants them, read the sticky thread. It suggests they realise there is nothing they can do to stop them so they maintain silence so as not to antagonise the remaining player base. The sticky also shows players and potential players that Anet acknowledges the problem and then spends over a month doing nothing about it, finally signing off with a warning to legit players about posting and then locking the thread.
If you want to be competitive or make lots of money simply buy another account, bot it, launder money to main. Simple really. If you consider how many gems the cost of the game is worth and then convert that into what you can make before you potentially lose your bot account you will see it’s a viable profit.
GW1 was 90% instanced, how would you know whether there were bots?
Just about every MMO has bots, and on every single one people whine that the developers don’t care because they don’t instantly ban everyone who is accused of botting.
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
They are more of a problem in GW2 because they are effecting DE’s, if they are farming near these events then the DE scales up making it more difficult for legit players to complete. I’m also convinced wrongly or rightly that they are causing some events to bug.
The other issue is that they are deflating prices on the TP, some enjoy this benefit naturally, but others including myself are getting tired of it.

GW1 was full of bots – how exactly would you meet them in the system of that game?
Maybe they keep them in order to learn more ? o.O
Just a thought,…
Because GW1 was instanced, ofc you’re not going to see all the bots -.-
You’d see a lot of bots in JQ. A lot of them are probably still there. Also in certain outposts if you’re there long enough you’ll see the same players come in over and over, run the exact same route to the merchant, the Xunlai chest, the flag by the exit and then out to continue farming.
The thing is they’re easy to miss at first, especially the ones farming in instances because you have to hang around the outpost for a while to spot them, but once you know what you’re looking for they are there.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
There are bots because the design of the game is ideal for botting, very similar to any Korean grind, spawning mobs.
ArenaNet must have seen this coming, and have now lost total control of the botting.
Expect to see many more bots in the future, long lines of them, so many crammed together you won’t be able to see the names to report them.

This is allready happening on Kodash. Frostgorge Sound – 20 or more bots on one place. I couldn’t even report them all, because my pc started the “big dragon mode”. That means I can only see some of them and then they vanish and I see others.
It’s impossible to farm any stuff as an normal player. I would like to craft something, but because of the “bot-war” (it’s like they conquer whole maps), I can’t find any tokens.
You realise that bots attacking a mob doesn’t mean that you can’t get loot from it?
Following a bot train can in fact be very profitable.

@Jestunhi:
There are so many. I can’t even get one hit on their “prey”.
1. As it was already pointed out GW1 had bots.
2. GW2 has a lot of gold sinks.
3. Earning gold in GW2 is not easy.
4. With gold you can buy gems and the exchange rate when buying gems with real money is simply horrible.
The more time passes without actions against bots, the more I get reminded of those comic strips…
