I’m not too sure about the other servers, but on Devona’s Rest, it can be pretty easy to see that bots are everywhere. Sit on a resource node for a little while and they’ll warp into existence, mine a few times, and then immediately disappear, off to gather at the next node. Or swim underwater, and you’ll see a parade of them blinking around, auto attacking any fish (or wall), heal up, and move on. Or even on land, with bots running along in strange zig zags, attacking mobs in a manner that will only make sense to a computer, completing a nice predictable circle of an area of land barely frequented by people actually playing the game.
It’s easy to spot them. It’s a tad annoying to report them, especially when they blink around so much. And it’s infuriating to see that ANet is doing absolutely nothing about them.
Just look at the thread about what they’re doing about botting. First ANet makes the boast that they’ll come down hard on bots, then they lock it up when people ask them to prove it, promising updates in the future…
…and since then, the only “updates” we get is from the moderators pointing at a long dead thread as proof that ANet is doing something, even though all it proves is that they once said something about doing something sometime ago, and since then, eh, recoloured Quaggan backpacks are more important, really.
As I continue to send report after report to some mysterious silent abyss, I have to wonder… why bother? Why should I waste my time following around some suspicious character, making sure it isn’t someone that just isn’t bumbling around on a lousy internet connection? Why should I spend the effort trying to read a warping bot’s name, typing it into the “Add a friend” to report them, only to see my “bot friend” is still healthy and online weeks later?
Why should I report bots, when ANet hasn’t bothered to even pretend that they’re using those reports in months?
check the dev tracker, keep on reporting them it helps and there willbe another sweep soon garunteed, its pretty expensive to do a sweep every day, i thin they wait for it to build up then sweepaway alot at a time. Also keeping an eye on tyhese bots to see what they do and how they work is probably another reason theylet it buid like this.
Also have u been sending your reports to exploits@arena.net?
This helps more than the ingame bug reporting but both are useful...
Hi everyone,
Your reports do help Anet. We have had this issue before and, in time, bots disappeared. Keep in mind that the team must be very thorough when performing bans.
Again, I must stress that it is very important that you report bots. This way, you help us improving the game.
Thanks for your understanding.
