Why can't I take my Guild Bank too?
Because they want you to grind another 500 hours to rebuild it. They want your time, your time, your time in the game.
No they don’t. They want my money. If I don’t log on I’m not consuming server resources.
If they charged another 200gems for e.g I would honestly pay that for my guild bank.
They are happy to get your money but they also need players to populate the world. No one wants to play in an empty zone; it just is not fun. You probably left a less populated server. Population depletion is vicious cycle with little cure.

What do you think this is, a game with guild features?
Because they don’t want guilds to jump from world to world like they did when it was free to because you had and still have very bad bandwagon effects. So you using a tool intended for more then one person will be treadled as such because a guild is not made for one person yet ppl use them as if they are.
To put it better your using a system made for more then one person and because guild are tired to the world they are formed.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

a guild is like a bank brand….let’s say Bank of America
the guild bank itself is like the physical building.
if a bank manager move from one state to another you don’t take the building as well do you ? even though you still carry the same bank brand. so you make another building….
that’s what ANET implements here, although i find it ridiculous too…

I dunno, I see a Guild Bank as more of a safe and the guild hall as the building, when I move countries I will take the safe with me.
To transport said safe will require hiring people to transport it. The bigger he vault, the bigger the fee.
If an entire guild were to change servers I think Anet would be more interested in the amount of money they are getting through gems and gem exchange, than they would that this entire guild is getting to keep their 100k influence.
To me giving players the option to take the bank with them is even more of an incentive for whole guilds to migrate and thus spend gems.
honestly if I was you i’d stay on your server. guest to more populated ones and join a guild their. The only real purpose of a server is for WvW
Most likely poor programming practices. Probably the same reason you can’t change guild names.
One problem would be, if someone from a guild changes servers, but others in the guild don’t. How could the guild bank move then? Guilds are tied to the server rather than to people for this very reason. Otherwise the data would have to be repeated for each individual in the guild. Same reason Guild banks can’t be restored, when an account is restored. Too many people can have access to the data the bank is associated with. If there were a difference between personal guild banks, and regular guild banks, it could work…but, there isn’t. Maybe in the future.

hmmmm…..you know what i’m thinking ? i sense they will introduce a “Guild Name Change Contract” in the gemstore some time in the near future….

Their profit model doesn’t really encompass these kinds of things, although it probably could. Their are alot of examples like this, but they seem content with adding a few things here and there as they go. If you buy gems regularly, it doesn’t take long to run out of things that are actually appealing.
The reason is because of the cross-server nature of guilds and the server based guild influence “currency”. A guild exists on all servers when created, so when you moved server, nothing changed for your guild as it already existed as far as your new server is concerned.
Influence and the associated guild upgrades are however tracked separately by each server. I’m not sure why this limitation on influence and guild upgrades were put in place.
However, I disagree that a guild leader should be able to take upgrades with them if they switch servers, as the potential for guild drama (and associated impact on ANet’s support resources) isn’t worth it IMO. A preferable option would be to make guild influence and upgrades shared across all servers, but I suspect a change of that magnitude would take a lot of effort to implement, and I’m not sure the demand is there (yet?) for this change.
they think it as an indirect gold sink, that’s why.

Or have your bank accessible from any server, just like your inventory or storage bank. I remember asking Marin Kerstien about why guild buffs and guild storage wasn’t shared across servers just before launch.
His answer (paraphrased) was that they didn’t want people smuggling siege plans, or anything that could affect WvW from server to server.
I can see the reasoning but there’s so many ways to smuggle stuff over the statement leaks like a sieve.
More often than not I find the whole server architecture and guild system ridiculously poor in logic, functionality and the effect on the community.
It’s such a shame.

You buy influence for gold, so you dont have to grind it. Need 500,000 guild influence in order to begin upgrade your newly transfered guild to old specs? That’s just a mere 1000 gold or something like that. Go buy those gems!
This is one of my very few gripes as well, and also one of many reasons that my husband and I have not changed servers.
I do not believe that influence, guild bonuses, etc should be server bound. In fact, I feel it makes multi-server guilding less than ideal because it requires repetitive work to make the guild features as useful to other server members. Unless they feel like guesting all the time in order to access features that are built on another, more member populated server, which they really should not have to.
I do feel this is something that should be changed. Let influence be one ‘pool’ that is grown from all members, not just members on the specific server. Let the features, once built/earned, be available across servers to all.
From what I understand once I change servers I can’t even guest back to the one I was originally on and have access to the bank I made there either.
This is incorrect.
If you Guest back to your guild’s original server, all the upgrades(including the Vault and its contents) you had will be there waiting for you.

I do not believe this to be true. You can only access the original Guild bank’s services, once you transfer, by transferring back, again. Guesting does not allow you access to your old Guild bank. There are many threads about this in Account Issues, and the players’ disappointment after transferring and having left items in their Guild bank, with no access, guesting or not.

No, you are incorrect, I’ve personally tried this. I forgot some items at my personal guild bank at my old server. Guested to there, but I couldn’t access the bank. I invited my friend(at my old server) to my guild, waited for 72 hours and he withdrew items and sent them to me via mail. So, guild banks which you can access are based on your home server. Upgrades and guild bank stays there but you can’t access it as long as it’s not your home server.
