Just curious if there was a reason I can’t salvage my Rabid Spineguard after I’m done wearing it. I found it in fractals, it came soulbound so I decided to use it until I got something with stats I wanted. Is it now worthless?

To annoy us I guess. Nothing better than getting a rare backpiece

Back to WoW, make GW2 fun please.

Probably because they can’t be crafted meaning you wouldn’t know what craft material to get from it.

I’m guessing they’re gonna fix this later.

It’s also annoying that you can’t combine them in the mystic forge, at least not with other items.

I stumbled onto this this morning: http://dulfy.net/2013/01/28/gw2-new-orr-temple-exotics/
The one I have is exotic, so that probably explains the reason: it’s also possible to get that item from a karma vendor, so it counts as a karma item.
but most karma items you can throw into the MF, but not back pieces?
And that does bring up that rare back items also have this problem, yet are not karma items. is it just an oversight on their part?
Sometimes I feel like Anet forgets that back pieces and breathing apparatus even exist.

Because anything that provides you with gold or a way to make it means less gems for Anet.

Because the gem/gold exchange ratio is fixed right? Right?

I don’t know and don’t care because I would never buy gems again. Maybe you know the answer?

If I’m going to support a gambling operation it needs to have slot machines and lots of blue haired old ladies to hang out with. I don’t gamble with real money for pixels.

Oh boy aren’t you going on a tangent now? What has gambling to do with what we were talking about? Are you upset about the gambling going on with Flame and Frost dyes and weapon skins? So am I, but this is not the thread for it.

That being said I was simply pointing out that what you implied in your post is , at best, ignorant. It’s not as simple as it looks because the gold-to-gems ratio is not fixed and goes up the more people convert gold to gems.

Anyways. I don’t know why back pieces aren’t salvageable

It’s not just back pieces. The other day I got some random exotic shoulders in Fractals and they can’t be salvaged either, despite the fact they are identical to ones that can be crafted. They are also Account Bound, so can’t be sold (in fact, the tooltip reads: Account Bound, Soulbound on equip). There was also a time when all jewellery you found (green/yellow/exotic) was account bound and couldn’t be salvaged, but this seems to have changed now.

Its in my opinion Anet or whoever hate crafters and crafting, just take 5 mins to look at crafting and what you can make with it to see how much Crafting is hated..

yeah, good reminder sokar. non-named exotics from fractals can’t be traded either. Though I don’t think I knew about their inability to be salvaged. Also no apparent reason behind that one.

The majority of the account bound drops in Fractals can be salvaged without issue. The shoulder item in question should be reported in-game as a bug.

Back pieces however universally can’t be salvaged. Something I’d love to see fixed.

agreed. it’s ridiculous that they are so worthless from not being able to be salvaged.
Chickenshoes may be right, though. Anet probably didn’t know what material they should drop, so they decided to postpone the decision for later but never got back to it.
What would they drop? a random one? I’m thinking they should drop either cloth or leather.

On a similar note: is it just me, or do rare amulets always salvage into exactly one mithril ore, and nothing more?

haven’t noticed. I believe they are incapable of giving you ori, but didn’t notice about the only ever 1 mithril (salvaging crafted things always gives you what was used to craft them). I’ll check next time I salvage a bunch of them and get back to you
