I took advantage of the sale this weekend and bout a copy of the game for a family member. Upon starting a new toon they got through their beginning story line and went into town.

On a level 3 toon they had 3 options for the daily achievements. Maguuma harvesting, PvP kill and WvW land claim. Both the WvW and PvP quests that were offered were not completable because they had to be level 18 to access PvP/WvW.

I was under the impression that new players were given scaled down versions of the regular dailys but had no idea that they would be given quests they could not have possibly completed.

Can anyone explain to me the logic of giving a quest to a player who is on their first day in the game that they have zero chance of completing? Doesn’t this seem as if it would discourage new players and create frustration?

You can enter it at level 2.

Dailies are grind content to extent the game after the regular content was completed.

Go complete the game before you worry about mindless grind bs.

Seems like a bug or something, you should have a minimum of 3 level appropriate pve tasks to do every day. I have a spare account with no toons over lvl 10 and there are always 3 dailies in the low level zones. Maybe you have to be level 5 or something higher than 3 for them to show up, but if they still have the same problem in a few more levels then submit a bug report.

Also you can do wvw/pvp dailies at any level, its not going to be fun for a new player but its not impossible.

You can actually enter PvP and WvW from level 2. You’re just not told about them until later on.

As for dailies I actually think it’s better if new players aren’t introduced to them right away. As someone else said dailies are basically something to do if you’re running out of options and need an incentive to re-play content, not something for new players to get into doing from day 1.

You can not enter WvW until level 18 and PvP until level 22. I visually verified this after this post. When you try to access them a mouseover tooltip pops up stating these levels are required. I’m assuming this applies to new accounts only and is not applicable if you have a higher level toon on your account.

My point is that the new players are encouraged to participate in these events by a daily quest pop up. Regardless of how many other players think a new player should and shouldn’t enjoy their game experience the fact remains that a new player is given a task they can not complete.

I would prefer the new players be given encouragement to play in areas that they actually can complete.

False, mostly. You have to go to Lion’s Arch. Once you go click on a portal for WvW, the icon at the top unlocks including the keyboard shortcut. Once you go through the portal for Hearts of the Mist, and complete the tutorial, the icon at the top, including whatever shortcut you assign to it will unlock.

looks like it.. a friend of mine just bought a new account, made his character to lvl 19 and then he decided to switch server, so he deleted his characters and made a new one, and at lvl 3 he was able to access WvW simply by pressing B, no need to go via LA portal.

but don’t just take my word for it though, because i remember my low level wasn’t able to go WvW via pressing B, got the message saying “till lvl 18”. i myself still don’t understand how it actually works…

From the Blog Announcement:

For example, WvW and PvP will be messaged to players via the level-up notification system at levels 18 and 22, and the buttons in the top left will be hidden until then, but experienced users can use the portals in Lion’s Arch or use hot keys to access those game modes immediately. Once the buttons are unlocked for one character on your account, they’ll be visible to all future characters as well.

Admittedly, a new player would have to ask around or consult the Wiki, Release pages, News Blog, or Forum to find out how to enter WvW or PvP, but it wouldn’t be hard to learn how with our helpful community. =)

Thank you for this information.

It still doesn’t make sense to me that a new player would be given a quest that in order to complete they have to assume the tooltip saying “This unlocks at level #” is false and then have to search forums or seek information from other players.

There’s a problem here that in my opinion could turn away new players or at the very least discourage them.
