Why did you pre-purchase Path of Fire?
only one reason for me, Crystal desert :>
Maybe they like the game and want to keep moving forward in the story?
I’m vested in the franchise. I run a guild of 400 people. I was always going to buy the game anyway, because you can’t progress the game without buying the game. It’s really that simple.
I’ve put five years into this game so far and more than that in Guild Wars 1. I have no reason at all to believe I won’t enjoy PoF consider I’ve enjoyed the core game and especially HoT.
I don’t agree with everything Anet does, but I agree with most of it, most of the time. The expansion would have to be dreadful for me not to buy it. $30 is pretty much nothing to me anyway
I’ve bought many games for more money that didn’t gave me 10 hours of entertainment. I’m sure I’ll be playing the expansion for more than 10 hours.
I have been in love with Tyria since the original game.
Nightfall, in particular, was probably my favorite expansion for GW1. Being able to go back to Elona is something I have wanted for almost 5 years now, since GW2 released. It was beautiful on the old engine, and I am sure it is going to be even more beautiful on this one.
That, and this story line has me excited. I have been wanting them to touch on the gods for a long time now, so I am very excited to see where they take this.

Because I like the game and want to keep on playing it!
for me it was cuz pof looked better then hot. I regret pre-purchasing hot and even buying it for the ultimate price, that expansion was not worth that kind of money. But with pof it’s much cheaper, looks better, has better looking monsters. And now that i previewed a little bit of new ranger elite last night. I saw a few new pets and they’re all from the elona nightfall. So that there makes me much more comfortable in my pre order of PoF. So im sure i will spend much much much much much much more time in PoF then i ever did in HoT. Much rather fight a sand shark, then some puke covered plant monster that lacks detail and colour.
I haven’t yet but I will very soon because I’m invested in the game and the franchise as a whole. The only reason I haven’t pre-purchased yet is because I’m not sure which version to pre-purchase.
I don’t really get hyped for anything, so trailers, the announcement etc didn’t sway me at all. My logic was simply that give how many hours I’ve put into the game, and that I’ve enjoyed HoT & LS content, I’d probably have ended up buying this at some point, so it made sense just to pre order.
As it turns out, based on the PvE preview, I don’t think I’ll be spending any time in PoF once I’ve done map completion and the story, as there was very little I enjoyed in the preview. But if map completion and story give me 8-10hours then that’s still not bad for £25. Had this expansion been £40+ then I’d probably have waited till it was on sale.
Because I’ve played gw for years, both the original and this one. While there are some things I might not care for I’m still going to play the game and I want to see the new maps and progress my chars. And I’m not going to want to sit on the sidelines playing the old content while everyone else is playing the new.
ANet may give it to you.
In my case, LOYALTY to a company that has consistently given me hundreds of hours of excellent and compelling gaming since 2012. I have many games and have been gaming (professionally) since the first 8-bit machines in 1981 but Guild Wars 2 is by far one of the best games I’ve played in the last thirty years. That’s why I purchased the second expansion.
I not only pre purchased it I got the Ultimate version because I enjoy the game quite a bit and really don’t see me stopping the game any time soon.
Not only did I get the ultimate as soon as I could get in but so did my wife.
Would have gotten it just to keep playing the storyline – mounts, cool new areas and the specializations looking cool is all just a nice bonus.
The gems did it for me.
I knew I would eventually buy the expansion so why not get 4K Gems for me to play around with.
Been here since GW1, and i havent missed any of the story yet, not gonna start now, and the free gems helped.
Because I knew I was going to get it anyway. I knew there would be at least one elite spec that I would like and I’ve enjoyed the story so far and want to continue it

This although not for the story as its not my cup of tea. And I splurged. On the ultimate edition because, reasons. And 4k Gems.

Excelsior.
Since the game lacks easy cash grabs (supressed pistol with correct sound effect) and I can’t and don’t want to use many cash shop items (either they hide/cover my pretty Asura ears or are too bright, fancy and colourful – nothing that goes well with my midget thief) it’s a way to show some appreciation. So you nay-sayers can whine in the next “Quarterly report” that this game is dying. Which will happen anyways. Because my €55 won’t do much.

I have to be honest in that I hate HoT. I don’t like jumping and I hate the levels, and it’s near impossible to play alone, which is what I enjoy doing. I held off on pre-purchasing PoF until the free trial weekend. I loved the dessert, and the mount (which I had never even thought about before), and it seems so far that I can get places there. Of course it will take time to learn everything, but I believe I will enjoy the new maps WAY more than the HoT maps. I still love the game overall. It’s my go-to for entertainment.
I have friends and family I play with. So I bought it to be sure I could keep doing so and wouldn’t be in a position where I couldn’t do something with them.
Because I wanted to play it as soon as it was released. The end.
Loved LWS3, looking forward to the continued story.
I thought the last expansion was great and I’m still enjoying the game. I figured ANet deserved the benefit of the doubt and my support at this point. After playing the demo and getting a look at the elite specs, I’m not as confident about PoF as I was, but that was really just a snapshot. I’m still excited to see what else it brings to the table.
By Ogdens hammer what savings!
Because I enjoy the game
By Ogdens hammer what savings!
I think people would feel a lot better about buying the expansion if this guy were in it.
Just imagine if you got off the airship and the first thing you heard was “By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!”
Bonus points if he sometimes says “By Ogden’s savings, what hammer!”
Because I want to support the Developers that have given me gameplay enjoyment for the last 12 years and 14,000+ hours. I’m a fan of the Guild Wars universe. I wish I could do more.

Same reason. 12 happy years….no quite as many hours though.
Because I like GW2 and I’m going to play the expansion.
I mean… it’s an MMO. If you want to keep playing the game it’s typical to get the expansion so you can enjoy the new content.

Looking forward to the continued story. I would hate to stop now when there’s more to see and do. Plus, this is only the second expansion but the first was enormous in terms of what it brought to the table. Plus there are likely to be new legendaries eventually. Totally looking forward to seeing what they look like. >_<
I bought it because to me gw2 is most entertaining MMO in my opinion. It doesn’t have the most features like wow. Or eso. But the gameplay that I do is amazing. I bought it to support them in the long run. And I was waiting for next expansion as soon as I finished hot story. I’m not an MMO specialist or a long time with gw2. I’ve only been on gw2 more than a year. But so far I’ve tried eso and FFXIV. To not purchase, I don’t think you’ve given gw2 enough credit for enough fluidity. And game play. And price. I mean 30 dollars for expansion? It’s 50 dollars for new Xbox one game. 40 for a 3ds game. 50 for PS4. You get my point. But 30 for added story. New mounts that no other game has. No other MMO has your mount have different specialties in riding. I’m not sure about attacking. But our mounts can attack also?! And new elite specializations? For just 30? And new chapters. And arena net is supporting updates for it after living world season 4. Now let’s talk pricing. Wow is subscription. You have to pay 15 a month. So 2 months your already paying a flat fee for what you pay for wow. Same with FFXIV. Eso is btp but marrowind is 50 I think and eso you can get all added content but subscribing 15 also adds up when you can just buy it. Pricing is amazing. You should get it.
I tried this mom and pop burger joint once. Some friends had recommended it. You pay when you place your order and then they make your food. After a little while they call you up to the counter to pick up your order.
The food is great. I’ve been going back for years even though, each time, Ive got to pay for the food before tasting it.
Well, it’s a no brainer. Why would I not buy the expansion for a game I played for 3k+ hours.
If it wasn’t for a roleplaying guild that I am in, I wouldn’t buy it and pretty much leave the game as I am a dedicated pvp player. PvP is love and life, but here it is so messed up that I was on the verge of abandoning this game for good.
Either way, I dig lore, so I will pre-order it because I like some juicy lore to roleplay on along with my guildies. It’s surprisingly a load of fun.
I have been in love with Tyria since the original game.
Me too. I played GW before WoW and instantly fell in love with it. My friends tried it and hated it. Played WoW for a long time too but GW grabbed my heart more.
I want to see the new zones, especially because we’re going back to familiar territory. I want to develop my characters further. I’m curious where the story will go (it’s more interesting now that it’s more than just dragons). I enjoy the game. It’s less costly than some of my other hobbies (skiing and mountain biking).
I knew I’d be buying it anyway, I knew I’d be buying gems anyway, so I went with Ultimate as soon as it was announced (well, once I could get them to take my money, there were some bugs with ordering).
I enjoy the game a lot and play it a lot every week so yeah, I’ll pay for the parts that need paying for as long as I’m still playing. Even though I’m retired, I haven’t yet hit a financial crunch severe enough to prevent this sort of expense.
I bought the most expansion by Soul Beast, any game form plus PVP same.
Reading this topic is like reading all the reasons why I Pre-Purchased HoT.
HoT is why I am not re-purchasing PoF.
I prepurchased without knowing anything about the elite specs. But I loved the crystal desert in GW1, and I loved the idea of mounts. I ended up hating the elite specs.
meh.

The answer is very simple.
If I don’t purchase PoF, I literally miss the motive of playing GW2 entirely cuz what’s the point? All the new contents/ emphasis would be on post expansion stuffs, so why do I want to keep playing the old stuffs that won’t get any attention ever?
For 30 dollars I am able to keep on playing GW2 for a long time, why not just buy it?
For people who want to cheap out this 30 dollars cuz you’re too poor or whatever, what’s the reason for you to stay in GW2?
Is there any point left for you to stay in GW2 if you’re going to give up all the future contents?
If I am in your position I’d just drop the game entirely.
If I am in your position I’d just drop the game entirely.
I did stop the game entirely for a about a year after HoT, since I didn’t like the Expansion, and as you put it, there was no point to putter around Core if all the attention was on HoT, I left to other games.
I came back to look at PoF.
I might get it.. I might bugger off again.. jury is still out on that one.

I might be reading this wrong, but it sounds like your implying that if people can’t afford PoF then they should give up the game, which is a ridiculous suggestion.

You’re reading it wrong.
What I’m implying is that what’s the point of keep playing the old contents 2352361 more times because all the new stuffs from now on will be gated behind the expansion?
To me it’s not worth my time to play GW2 anymore if I can only play old contents for next 1~2 years, and I’d simply drop the game entirely. I’m just questioning those people who refuse to buy PoF, what’s the point for you to stay in GW2?
PVP? WvW?
I’ll be honest here, loyalty. I’ve been playing the game since launch, and I think it’s a great game. I’ve bought gem store stuff occasionally, but I don’t buy things I have no use for, and I NEVER pay money to gamble on RNG crates, so I haven’t been whaling it up or anything, especially lately. I feel like paying for the expansion is a fair price for the time they’ve already given me, which was more or less my reaction to HoT.
Now, that out of the way, am I in love with anything specific to PoF? Not particularly. The new areas look kinda cool, I’ll have fun exploring those. The mounts look interesting to play with, but I’m not like “omg, mounts!” Gliding was way better than mounts will ever be. The new classes have a lot I like about them, but all of them seem fundamentally flawed in various ways, and I’m honestly not certain I’ll switch to any of them when the expansion drops, although I plan to give them a solid attempt.
If I had no attachment to the game, I doubt PoF would change that. But I am attached to the game, and will enjoy playing through the new content and options the expansion brings.

Whats the point?
Ah well, I got afew slayer achievements to work on looking at you giant slayer atm up to 4
I got quite afew exploration achivements aswell left to do havent crafted any of the gen 1 or gen 2 legendaries yet, about 40-50% left of stuff to do in hot yea plenty of stuff to keep me occupide.
I was that anxious to have content that wasn’t HoT.
I pre-purchased even before the first demo weekend. After seeing Crystal Oasis, if it’s any indication what the rest of the zones will be like, I am certainly not sorry I did.
Been here since GW1, and i havent missed any of the story yet, not gonna start now, and the free gems helped.
The difference in price from standard to ultimate is exactly what 4000 gems costs in the gemstore – so you don’t get free gems, you only get a char slot, identity scroll etc. for free
Because if i go bankrupt, at least i ’ll already have PoF
But i bought it after the first demo… i was sold after one hour. Anet is clever and i am weak. What can i say
