Why are A-net restricting our options instead of broadening them?

This recent AOE nerf idea has got me worried.

We are already restricted to the point where we can’t determine or chose our own weapon skills for weapons meaning some weapons go completely unused or are just bad because of one or two skills on that weapon being poor compared to the others. An example of this would be a warrior, every warrior under the sun uses a greatsword or axe as a primary or a secondary weapon… why? Because it’s vastly superior.

Necro staffs and Ele staffs which have predominantly AOE ablilites where will they stand? Will the nerfs just further restrict players options meaning every player will be using the same weapon set because the other are just too poor? I thought they wanted to look at D/D ele’s (yes i know D/D ele’s use a lot of aoe) but instead of attacking AOE across the board why not just add more single target skills or here’s a thought give the player the ablility to choose his 1 or 2 weapon skill maybe then people will want to pick the spamable single target kiting skill over the superior aoe skill.

Why is it they constantly nerf weapon skills to the point where no one uses them?

From what we actually know, the AoE nerf is something they’re looking at, not something they’re actually doing yet. They’ve said they need to fully test it, look at data, etc. Hopefully they’ll consider the effect it’ll have encouraging kittenergs in WvW (which are already too prevalent).

Replace kitten with “ball” plus “zergs”, referring to people balling up to minimize the chance and effects of AoE damage. You can already neutralize most AoE damage that way, weakening it further will make zergs even more difficult to counter.

That woman in the pictures is Crystin Cox. A new (kind old now) employee of Anet. She’s from Nexon and works with the gem store.

From my understanding, Guild Wars 2 became a completely different game once she joined the team. Thus why there has been so many nerfs to things, lower drop rates, lottery in the gem store, all the restrictions and such, etc. All to make us spend more money. Guild Wars 2 was originally a game that stayed true to itself, and once she arrived, the game went a completely different direction then what it was sold as.

A lot of people are putting the blame on her as to why Anet did a 180 on their Manifesto and are changing things to “force” us to spend more money. At least, that’s my understanding of it all.

Yes, it is rude. It will likely get me yet another temporary suspension from the forums too, so you should feel good about that.

You go find your own source. It’s all over the place. This “woman” destroyed a beautiful game, and I frankly hope she feels awful. I’ve never seen her until this thread and that was my honest opinion.

She’s responsible for the cash shop for GW2, and she is the primary reason GW2 is using tried and true Asian game philosophies – massive grinds and oppressive cash shops.

There is no actual “proof” or statements of what exactly she has done, because Anet doesn’t release that information.

But, she is in charge of the gem store. And everything about the gem store. Lottery, RNG, etc is all her doing. Never had that stuff before till she came along.

The dye system is another example of her work. Originally we had account bound dyes. All dyes were accessible on your entire account, not bound to just one character. Then they were changed to character only and then we couldn’t trade them anymore either (which they later changed to make them tradeable again). This was an obvious money grab to get us to buy dye packs.

Now there is several things being done to the game that players feel are a push to the gem store. Like drops rates being nerfed, farming being nerfed, DR, hard to make gold, etc etc. Nerfs constantly coming to any form of money making to make us spend real money for gems and trade them into gold to make any money.

The reason why people connect this all to her, is because none of this was happening before she joined. It wasn’t until after she joined Anet that all these thing started happening. Guild Wars 2 went from being a AAA MMO, to a F2P grinder MMO.

Doesn’t work like that, if they read it as a negative, infraction inbound. I get infractions for some of the dumbest things, but it’s mainly because I don’t kiss the ground anet walks on.

So it seems there are very over all unhappy ppl posting here i must say is it purely because of the AoE thing because nothing is out about what going on with that so you cant truly say any thing with out any hard fact or is it that some “ideal” game view has been broken because i would have to say that your fooling your self into thinking that it should be the way one person think it should be vs an over all community whom is comply happy with the game as is.

Over all ppl who tend to be unhappy will still be unhappy even if things go there way to the point of tricking them self in that things are worst then they realty are to the point of picking out one person and out right bullying them.

Any way the game is good and is one of the best out there as things stand and in the foreseeable future. The idea of making weapon do a set number of tricks is good to make ppl use different types of weapons not just the weapons that are the “best” type with skills that are so flex able that there is no need for any others. If you could changes skills you would see a game where every class would use the same weapons that tend to be the best over all at least the way it is now you will see some diversity in a class beyond a bit of looks.

And yet spot on. It’s not exactly difficult to miss that since Arenanet made available their vision of GW2, which was NOT what this game has turned into. They were excited about it, with every interview looking as if they were talking about their dream game. Then, suddenly, IMMEDIATELY after an ex-Nexon employee gets hired as the Monetization producer, things start to change.

First, small things- dye gets changed from account bound to character bound, despite how big of a deal they made about it definitely being account so that you wouldn’t have to grind/buy tons of it. Then, bigger things started to change- a new armor tier appeared and people are grind grinding for that next +1 to their stats.

Kinda hard to miss the obvious when it is screaming in your face.

I’m saying goodbye to guild wars 2 for a while. No personalizing traits/weapon skills. THere’s plenty of games that has what I’m looking for. Tired of every kitten 2222222 thief and d/d elementalists 100 blades warriors shatter mesmers burst engineers dps guardians and necros. There’s no variety at all in this kitten game. Sick and tired of this game. I got world completion, 42 in pvp. My god what have arenanet done to deserve so much of my time except for ruining every single thing I love about MMOs…

She is the lead on the monetisation team, and was ported over directly from Nexon as part of the shares buyout in June.
Some of the more unscrupulous decisions she made right off the bat have been listed here: such as the dyes, the godforsaken lottery chests and keys straight out of Maple Story, and the list runs on if you go back over the design decisions that have made it out into open air.
But undoubtedly, the one they have instigated involving the reduction of open-world rewards to cripple the players in an asinine drive to the gem-to-gold market, is the crowning achievement of their strategy to shoehorn a clearly ‘Western market’ game into their repulsive mold.
It is impossible to deny the changes that Crystin and her team have brought to the developer’s table since the middle of last year, if you simply do the research that many others have done.
The monetisation team from Nexon have had a clear, resounding impact on the gameplay and direction of this title, and will continue to do so while their presence inside ArenaNet persists.
As such, they are the targets for people’s quite justified anger, and I find it highly doubtful that they did not expect such a backlash.
If anything, they are getting off incredibly lightly at the moment, while everyone sits on their hands waiting for the wonder laurels to arrive and solve the mess…

Some of the more unscrupulous decisions she made right off the bat have been listed here: such as the dyes, the godforsaken lottery chests and keys straight out of Maple Story, and the list runs on if you go back over the design decisions that have made it out into open air.
But undoubtedly, the one they have instigated involving the reduction of open-world rewards to cripple the players in an asinine drive to the gem-to-gold market, is the crowning achievement of their strategy to shoehorn a clearly ‘Western market’ game into their repulsive mold.
It is impossible to deny the changes that Crystin and her team have brought to the developer’s table since the middle of last year, if you simply do the research that many others have done.
The monetisation team from Nexon have had a clear, resounding impact on the gameplay and direction of this title, and will continue to do so while their presence inside ArenaNet persists.
As such, they are the targets for people’s quite justified anger, and I find it highly doubtful that they did not expect such a backlash.
If anything, they are getting off incredibly lightly at the moment, while everyone sits on their hands waiting for the wonder laurels to arrive and solve the mess…

Dyes=cosmetic, chests=cosmetic, or worthless, and there is still no proof of the DR bug the same five people keep preaching about. The only thing that has drastically changed in game has been Fractals, which actually gives people more money and loot, they added bank space for craft mats= saves on money, and had sales on various things people wanted=saves on money. You need to come up with some better stuff, because your old routine is stale.

I’m not sure which server you’re on but the only overflow my server (Tarnished Coast) sees is LA, and that’s just to cram into fractals. Orr is pretty empty even on weekends and low level zones look like a single player game. >_> Everyone is funneled into Fractals right now, fractaling away for their fractal gear.

I’m not sure which server you’re on but the only overflow my server (Tarnished Coast) sees is LA, and that’s just to cram into fractals. I’m not sure about other servers but Gandara is healthy, there are people in Orr, Frostgorge, doing lots of dungeons, Fractals and dynamic events. Even lower level zones have lots of people around.
