How can elementalist chain buffs endlessly while other professions have them under long cooldown skills? Just a moment ago I was watching 3 guys fight a single elementalist on WvW. The elementalist had 40 second vigor buff, 30 second protection buff, 60 second regeneration buff and 35 second might stacks and it just kept going on and on. The elementalist could also cause weakness and spam other conditions to enemies at will.

As a Ranger I have no boon removal whatsoever in my profession. Warriors have no boon removal either. What’s the point of having light armor professions with low health pools if they get permanent boons that ensure they never die?

The reason Elementalists can stack boons is because they have terrible armor and health. If you removed their way to survive while keeping them at low health you would have to make them a true glass cannon and increase their damage by over 3x if you wanted a slight breeze to blow them over.

Try playing the elementalist class for yourself and decide if you can do the same or not.
There are two scenarios that I can make for them, 1…he was a true bunker, so yeah he is gonna tank them with somewhat hits like a wet noodle none the less. 2…The people didnt had a good idea what was going on, maybe one or two were uplevels….

Point is you can get vital buffs stacked up other classes too, but is elementalist OP, NO.
Others can claim that throne more easily.

I was one of those players, in full ascended gear. I can’t try it for myself because the elementalist had mastery that is only available in expansion, which I don’t have. The thing with “bunker” builds is that even if they hit for low damage, they will eventually win the fights because they can’t die. I’ve seen this happen many times now. My greatsword has the basic swing, the big hit, gap closer, block and daze. None of that affect the elementalist.

I was thinking some kind of trade-off. Small health pool but big damage? Low armor but mobility? Thieves have low health but they get access to stealth. Eles have low health but they can tank indefinitely due to permanent buffs. It doesn’t make any sense.

Permanence is not very interesting. A skill can be powerful if it’s for limited duration or effect. Guardian puts down Test of Faith for 6 seconds. Enemies can’t exit. Then he puts a huge damage trap inside that ring. Enemy inside the ring dies. Duh! What’s the counterplay here? Stability or bust?

Problem is synergies that result in overloaded effects. You have necromancers that spam million conditions, or elementalists that have all the boons in the game on constant uptime.

Well Anet slipped up when they made armor classes. I actually agree with you but if “play your way” is supposed to exist a tank elementalist has to be possible and that means they have to access to the boons that make it possible in relation to their armor.

They flubbed. Please forgive them.

Every class can have boon removal. Whether or not taking it is the best choice is debatable.

Against Protection and Regeneration there are conditions. Specifically Poison. Ranger has plenty of choices for Poison.

Stability or bust?

For these situations or specifically for WvW you could look at changing your sigil, there is one that removes boons on Crit (60% chance). So I would not say being a ranger you have NO boon removal.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Nullification

Go in with a group of buddies all with this Sigil (or other means to strip boons) and you could leave him naked of any boons.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Every class can have boon removal.

[citation needed]

Well, the thing is, what does a solo roamer bunker in WvW do? Distract people who are not smart enough to just ignore him. It’s literally all they can do. Just go do something else while they throw pebbles at you.

And as it was said, Elementalist can stack those boons because otherwise they die from stubbing their toe. Remove them and that’s it for them.

I’d argue the issue is that, in fact, not all classes can actually (reliably) strip boons (one stack every 10 seconds with a sigil is really meh). But most classes are already very similar to each other in terms of what they do so I’m not sure we need more of that.

On the other hand, Revenants have the best armor and better health, and they can stack buffs even better than eles. Without sacrificing damage. Funny how that is.

Opposed to Eles they melt against any decent condi player, funny how that is. It’s almost like there’s more to classes than just the boons.

As an Ele main since launch, I feel I speak for a large portion of the community (though probably not the competitive portion) when I say we would gladly give up our permaboons for some freaking innate defense and some semblance of build diversity.

Because I am sick of being forced to use every… single… freaking trait, weapon, utility, healing, elite, armor, sigil, and rune choice I have just to not die to anything and everything because I have no defense that doesn’t require me to proc an attunement or pop a skill.

We have had one build since launch, and they finally took that away, and oh look, we’re still at one build. As per usual ANets plans on class design is ‘as little work as possible’ and ‘one step forward, two steps back’.

It’s all we have left.

Armor? Nope

Health? Nope

Burst DPS? We have the Burst Death spec where we stroll out on the battlefield and our health bar goes straight to zero.

A balanced bruiser spec? Died cradling Celestial Amulet in it’s arms.

Condition damage? Hahaha

A cool elite spec that addresses any of these fundamental issues in our class? Hahahah….oh god…stop….pls.

Why you gotta try and take our buffs away? Why can’t you just let us have them?

HAVEN’T WE GIVEN ENOUGH? HOW MUCH BLOOD DO YOU REQUIRE?

If you were one of the three classes NOT represented on teams in the finals then you’d have a leg to stand on.

Now I’m not saying ele needs a nerf but I think they certainly fall into the category of needing an adjustment just like rev, scrapper and Druid.

Lol that’s a rather cringe-worthy comment. :S
Hammer on guardian is not very good, and the auto attack is highly impractical.

Elementalists were nerfed fairly hard with the last major patch. At least in spvp. Diamond skin nerf and celestial nerf.
Not sure why you’re having so much trouble because they are much easier to beat and far less sustain/tank. Maybe you guys just faced a talented player or lacked effective builds?

We were represented in the finals do to a single build that equates to a diamond in the rough. It’s also 2.0 of a build that has existed as forever in the meta which is water based sustain which has heavily to do with out boon potential.

Just saying “Oh, your class was in the ESL.” is a lazy way to shutdown a discussion. It’s a crutch when you have no other reasonable argument.

Like, yeah, we are represented in the ESL, because of one build that was assembled out of a pile of broken skills and traits. We’re not a well balanced and diverse class with multiple competitive builds and variations. To be fair, not many classes are due to game balance, but I digress…

And your solution is to take away the one element that’s allowing us to be competitive while doing nothing to address the broken state of the class? And this is okay, because we are in the ESL? Apparently, being in the ESL is all the reasoning you need to remove the only crucial element keeping us in the ESL without doing anything else to help the class?

The only one lacking a leg to stand on is you.
