Why do we even have stacks??

Stacks of 250 were apart of GW1, but I must agree it’s good to challenge why things are done, and I would like to know why this is so. I’ve already bought all bank tabs and it does not solve the solution of stacks being frustrating.
- Maybe anet can make stacks larger
- Or if they want money, make an item that lets collectable slots hold 500, 750, 1,000 mats etc or even infinite.

As far I know they will implement an item in the BLC to expand stacks by other 250.
Who know why do we have stacks and why so high requirement for crafting…

Peetee., is this a goal that Anet has expressed that you can provide a link to? I would be interested in reading what Arenanet has to say about stacks of 250.
Data mining has shown there will be a way to increase stack size. But, who knows if and when it will ever be implemented. I imagine it is a holdover from GW1. You would have hated the days, back then, when we didn’t even have mat/collectible storage. Yikes! =)
stacks are 250 because it’s a nice round number that’s just under the memory limit. Once you make the stacks bigger than 256, they immediately use twice as much memory…and spread out over millions of item stacks… it’s not a completely trivial impact.

why stacks? because the servers cant handle it,, gw2 is just bad at certain things,, like this website, why doesnt it put my location in a session, so when i login, it brings me back where i came from.. wtf.. its 3 lines of code.. GG to the developer of this
250 is no longer viable with all the changes to the game. But they may listen, just like how we got a wallet for those other tokens that took up space.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

one can hope. but that also might acknowledge tht they want mats requirements to be at such ridiculously high numbers :P
Oh well, can’t have everything, right?
Anet wants you to purchase more bank space. /thread. But honestly the only mat I am having trouble with is bloodstone dust. I fill up a stack of that stuff way to fast. I have an alt whose only job is to hold that stuff. I can’t bring myself to delete it
actually was expecting someone to say its some limitation in programming or sumthin…
personally i still have lots of bank space..

1. Time gating already prevents that.
2. You can hoard past 250 anyway.
Funk was right, 250 is a common number just under 255/256 that needs the least bits to store in computer memory. 1 item or 250 items in one stack require the same amount of memory bitwise. Upping the stack size would require upping the amount of memory needed for ALL items in your bank/inventory, which is no small number.
Back at launch, it was very generous and more than enough.
Now it’s not.
it is an arbitrary number just like any different number would have been. Would you prefer it to be 5?
Storage has always been something people have griped about, all the way back in GW1. We were limited to stacks of 250 mats there as well, and we had to pay to get our initial storage pane, and then pay again to get the crafting tab. It wasn’t until much later in the game’s life that we were even offered the option of purchasing/earning additional storage panes. There’s a reason “mules” exist. No matter how much storage they give us, it will never be enough.
Beyond that, like armor here…there were more than a few armor in GW1 that required more than the 250 a stack could hold, for the set. Elite armors usually needed 350 – 400 of the main material…usually cloth…it’s nothing new…

Instead of buying bank tabs maybe you should just make your own bank guild. Especially with gem costs rising, it becomes much more attractive to make a guild and buy some influence that you then use to buy the upgrade to guild bank, vault, etc. I did the simple math for it a few months back, when gem costs were about 75% of what they are now, and even back then it was more attractive to have a guild bank vs buying more bank slots.
Only downside to guild bank is it doesn’t store account bound mats, but it will take all your other stuff.
Its so it fills up your bank so you must purchase them from the cash shop, i have every bank tab filled and you still fill it up thanks to the 250 limit, its limits/directions like this that made me decide GW2 wasn’t worth it..
I have a Guild bank too full as well…of stuff i cannot sell….
You can’t put account- and souldbound Items into the guild bank. -.-
