Im asking this question because id like to know if others play for the same reason, and maybe to give arena.net some insight as to what it is we want =)

for me what makes the game fun, and pulls me back in are 2 things, individuality and lore!
what i mean by individuality is the ability to look like a “G” and not have the dude next to me by the forge looking the same lol. i find myself lvling characters just so that i can fit a certain look, i guess its a roleplaying kinda of thing, but thats what i do.

as for lore, i LOVE seeing all the neat things in this game, as well as all of the strange mysteries, like the Floating Castle (which you can find in the south east corner of Kessex Hills) and the disappearance of the Gargoyles, oh! and the Dwarves!!!! i guess thats 3 =P
but, what kills me about this awesome, interesting, and mysterious lore is that…. its a dead end. with all of these bi weekly patches and “Living Word” events, i wonder why i havent seen anything from lore build up, all of it so far just seems kinda out of no where. dont get me wrong, i couldnt have imagined doin anything more fun then moa race gambling =D but i would like to see some other stories of Tyria develop.

maybe im loco, but i think there are others who would agree =)

I think they are going to wrap up many of the loose ends very soon.

I play because I enjoy spending time in Tyria, and this game is lots of fun for me.

I play because i don’t feel burdened by the game. I can literally take a break for 3 months and come back to see that the thing I missed are a few skins.

Game is very casual friendly.

I check out the game from time to time and play through new stuff, I hardly know anyone irl that still plays though so that usually doesn’t last too long. I enjoyed the current LS alot and I am looking forward to all the stories being tied together. Before all the LS my main drive in playing the game was exploring, lore, finding secrets and doing all the jumping puzzles etc. As you said, the lore came to a dead end and eventually I got bored since there wasn’t much new to find. I hope that train will soon start moving again and from what I read around the forums and some interviews, we’ll be getting that in time.

I play as another form of entertainment and fun during my expendable time. By that I mean I consider other forms of real world leisure such as social events, recreational events, exercise and so forth not part of my expendable time. Those activities to me are part of my quality of life time for lack of a better term and are necessary for my personal wellbeing.

When I play GW2 it is normally in between events I mentioned above. I generally don’t schedule playing time. The game works for me because I can pick it up and put it down at any time and not really feel like I lost anything. I might miss out on a few laurels but even with dailys I can often work them in during my playing time if I have a desire to. Often most of the daily achievements I complete when playing as normal.

I almost never do the same activities two days in a row. For the most part I don’t lose out on much by playing this way. I enjoy the game much more mixing things up and almost never play the same alt for more than a few days in a row. If I start to feel a bit frustrated when an alt is in a certain place during its “life” I can shelf it and swap to another one. I certainly don’t play the game to beat my head against my monitor when I start getting angry due to game play.

tl;dr It fits in nicely between my quality of life leisure activities. I don’t feel like I miss much by not making it a primary source of entertainment. It’s easy to switch activities up to reduce burnout and enhance the game play experience.

I play it as a filler between other games. So whenever I get a bit bored with other games I play and just want a bit of variation, GW2 is one of the games I might play for a while. I had intended for it to be one of my main games but as the game has disappointed on various levels it’s a filler game for me. Of course GW2 isn’t all bad or I wouldn’t play it at all but it’s not good enough to be more for me than just a bit of diversion from time to time…also cause it’s free. That is a big reason I consider playing it from time to time at all.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

I play because to me GW2 is the better MMORPG option out there as of today (and at least till the end of this year). The other current options are uninspirational.

Some few things: amazing art, character movement/animation feel, world art, the different progression system (achievement pts, not gear treadmill, and maybe soon to come xtra traits/skills), WvW. These experiences cannot be found in other MMORPGs.

It would be great if they considered adding more game modes than just conquest in tpvp though. It would be such a big hit if they added lets say 5v5 or 3v3 purely focused on kills, or actual GvG from GW1.

I play because it’s loads of fun. Remember the good old days when you just did something because it was fun, not because there was a shiny piece of gear in it for you?

I mostly play for a little PvP and the social experience.

What I love the most about this game is that I don’t have to worry about falling outside of the ‘gear progression’, like in WoW. I can come and play whenever I want to.

I play because i don’t feel burdened by the game. I can literally take a break for 3 months and come back to see that the thing I missed are a few skins.

Game is very casual friendly.

Will that last?

I’ve heard talks about more Ascended gear coming up, though I don’t know the whole story.

I primarily play for the social aspect. I play many games, some of which reward me greatly and allow me to adjust (mod) that if I feel it’s not enough. But these are primarily single to small group co-op types.

I also play for the reward. I like to have something shiny to show for the time I spend playing, which could be financial gain (gold, karma, laurels) or property (resources, gear, skins etc). I also like to feel lucky at times. The Fortune Balloons/Scraps event had the best implementation so far, IMHO. I would play for more of that.

I play MMO’s for the crafting, because currently I’m not able to craft the things I want to make in RL (jewelry).

Unfortunately GW2 isn’t very crafting friendly after you hit 400, so I spend a lot of time leveling different characters and dinking around with events.

The lore of GW2 had my interest for a while, but things seem to have gotten from serious to circus, which was disappointing.

Still, if I get bored, I like to cruise the cities and zones looking for NPC’s that I haven’t talked to yet. There’s some interesting stuff.

I honestly really enjoy playing my character (mostly main which is Ele, but some alts get attention every now and then) and I have fun with that. I like the playstyle and the “action” combat even if its not perfect. Not to mention the artstyle and everything is very pleasing to me. I can’t think of an MMO that has looked better to me. Spending some time everyday in Tyria is just a nice experience so I keep coming back. :P

Also I love that I can do so much solo that you can’t do in a lot of other MMOs, I don’t have to worry about friends being on to do quests or events, chances are I can find people already on the map,etc to do stuff with without having to join a group necessarily.

Overall I’m a real sucker for holiday events and things so the Living Story is quite enjoyable to have so often. But I will admit it can be overwhelming since there is literally no breaks for a couple of months for a breather that you would normally get.

I play because I made some great friends through the game and really love hanging out with them. I also love dungeons. Just love them. I hated dungeons in WoW, but for some reason I just love them in GW2. Might be the lack of a trinity so it’s a little less stressful, as far as parties staying alive.

I also love the armor and weapon skins. I come back every day to make sure I do my dailies and dungeon runs so that I can get more legendaries because they are just soooo pretty. All my characters have beautiful armor and they just keep releasing more.

The living story stuff is also getting to be more entertaining for me, and I love achievement points.

Basically, I just love the game and have played every day since headstart (except maybe a weeks time of computerless vacation days)
