He has no leadership skills, and lacks the ability to inspire people.

He has no tactical skills, he makes exceedingly poor decisions that have cost us a massive amount of lives and resources.

He doesn’t even really have any combat skills, as he is pretty useless in a fight. Aside from his plot powers anyway.

Trahearne was in a good place when he first showed up. An adviser of all things Orr, we needed one of those. And then his mom gives him a magic sword and he gets to be leader because…there was no one else at the meeting that wasn’t part of one of the three groups.

So many people paid the price of making is unqualified kitten leader. Paid with their lives.

“This isn’t going to end well” WTFreak… seriously how many leaders go around being so blasted negative?
My nick name for him is Woody… because he has absolutely no personality, well and because he is a living tree trunk.
Spoiler*
So you go into a cave to save a few priory types and poof, he summons a bunch of minions to help out… never before does he do this… first time I knew he was a necro….
And as a necro he wields a great sword… when I was the one that had to fight for it… he gets it.
He dies… a lot… getting tired of rezing him..

I don’t hate Trahearne. There was nothing to hate. By the same token, there wasn’t anything there to like, either. He is just “blah.” I don’t really care what happens to him, good or bad.

I really liked Tybalt, but he certainly didn’t deserve to be a pact leader, either. He had neither the skills nor temperament for it. He was a good buddy and great for sharing an apple with.

early in the game many quests had bugged NPC pathing, and whenever you needed to walk with an NPC they’d sometimes screw your mission up and waste you hours.

it was always Traherne.

I think humans teend to dismiss “anti-leader” personality types all too easily. Apparently, many people-hopefully not a majority-have a problem with his “lack of charisma”, but should all leaders be charismatic/“personable”? I would argue that the usually more likable Thybalt, despite his sacrifice and quite more charming personality, wasn’t a good fir for that kind of leadership either (much as the other 2 sacrificial order leaders.) In short, it is fine for leaders to be so without meeting the stereotype.

That’s an interesting point to make. Prior to the mass media, U.S. presidents were pretty much evenly divided between introverts and extroverts. Calvin Coolidge was said to be so quiet, it’s said a talkative woman once boasted she’d be able to get him to talk when they met for dinner. She opened by saying she’d bet a friend that she could get him to say at least three words. He replied, “you lose.”

Basically, people would read about each candidate’s history, voting record, and decisions, then decide who would be the better leader. Since the advent of the mass media, and especially television in the 1960s, the Presidents have mostly been extroverts. Carter was the only obvious introvert, though there’s arguments that Nixon and Obama are introverts. The increased public exposure (and undoubtedly movies) have created an image among the populace about what a leader should be like, and charisma is a big part of it (hence favoring extroverts).

I didn’t really hate the voice-acting, as it was quite fitting for the character being portrayed. Voice changes were a bit unwarranted, or at least should have been put on hold until after attaining Pact leadership role. Though now they are fine, I miss the “this won’t end well” days when you play with new characters.

I don’t like his voice acting, but that doesn’t really bug me. What bugged me was his deference to you in major decisions. A good leader asks for your input (and the input of others knowledgeable about the issue), then makes the decision. Trahearne was always asking you to make the decision. Which makes sense from the standpoint of this being a game focused on you.

But I think he would get a lot more respect if they’d written his part so he would ask you for your opinion and recommendation (with the implication that he was also asking the other high-ranking Pact members), then in the next scene they’d show him having decided to go with your choice (and occasionally going against your advice).

He’s completely terrible in every way. I maintain that my Warrior chopped this absurd, awkward, utterly bland and condescending excuse for a character into so much kindling in a moment of reckless wrath, with Zhaitan’s blood still on her hands, upon completing the Personal Story.

And that every other character simply looked the other way, either because they shared my character’s hatred, or knew they could be next.

But hopefully we’ll get a chance to slaughter him more officially in the next Living Story chapter, when he inevitably, inexplicably becomes important again by being corrupted by the salad dragon.

Trahearne is an annoying pessimist.

“This will not end well….” All I can think is “Bugger off you useless twig – there’s a fighting to be done!”

The twigs are a boring, uninteresting characters to begin with and to have this one jammed down our throats is the reason I don’t do the personal story past the d**** or our mentor.

Tree-jesus replaces your Order Mentor. That means he replaces the best grandpa ever, Forgal…The lovable Tybalt…Or the cutie, Sieran. Less than a chapter after their death.

He. Is. Not. Welcome. In. Forgal’s. Spot.

Granted, he grew on me. I eased up on him a bit. I even like him a tiny bit now. But it took two and a half years to even get that far.

Tbh i am glad he took the role to lead armies, it is pita and at least they don’t bother player character with all the official work.

He is smart and calm. I find it fine. He also stayed humble whole story so i don’t see how he stole any glory anywhere. I liked the part where he has rather shifty acquaintances and knows some dark places.

I am guessing people don’t like him so much since he is not extremely emotional 24/7 but people forget he is one of the first born, i don’t think they were ment to be 100% human like. I am actually more annoyed by constant QQ from Kasmere – friggin Paris Hilton with staff.

Anyone who says Clawr instead of Claw is no friend of mine.

In more detail, though, he shows up out of nowhere if you’re not a sylvari, and then you pretty much become glued to him at the waist. He replaces the well-written, likable order mentors and soon your story is filled with a dull, uninspirational, and often condescending tone, with a dose of pessimism. I feel like he disgraced Apatia’s honor with his speech for her, thanks to his tone. You’re honoring the death and heroism of a valiant norn in front of many other norn, not teaching a history lecture.

Other NPCs give him credit for things that I did, not him. He contributes nothing to any combat, yet still gets a ton of credit for it. With the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan in the Source of Orr, I killed that thing in probably 20 seconds on my elementalist. He didn’t even land a single hit on it, yet his precious little sword is credited for the kill. Also, his knockback power is annoying when you’re melee.

Also, his walkspeed seems ridiculously slow. Even slower than other NPCs. A few missions require me escorting him places, but he won’t move unless I’m behind him, and then I have to wait for him to trudge forward. I know that’s not really his character, but the coding, but it still makes me hate him.

Yeah, he’s necessary as a leader because leaders have to do all the official paperwork and boring stuff that we wouldn’t want to do. But what leader follows his troops around on their missions? That’s just dangerous and irresponsible.

Wow! With all the hate and discontent generated over Trahearne, I would hazard to say that he was absolutely perfect for the role he played. Trahearne seems to be more of a success as a character than as a failure. How many other characters have created such a passionate debate? People here are acting as if he were a real person instead of an animated group of pixels just following a prescripted set of computer commands.
You go, Trahearne! Too bad everyone either hates you or can barely express a “meh” about you. At least you were real to me. (My official opinion is that he’s a putz but useful to get the job done… also my opinion of many RL people I’ve had to work with or for.)

Imo, it would have worked much better if they separated his leadership role and his scholar role. Remove the “We can’t possibly pick a leader ourselves” from the orders and have a scene where they confer and they pick a leader, either from amongst themselves or some outsider. We don’t even have to know this leader. He stays in his office and calls us to him and gives us the orders of where to go and what to do and we report back with our findings. He can ask us for our advice about what we saw out there and issue orders based on that.

Trahearne would be the advising scholar for us on these trips. It would make sense then that he had no real fighting ability. He could still have his Dream Quest of cleansing Orr, that he knows how to do from studying the area, and we go to protect him while he does it. I think that would made a better story line.

Be careful what you ask for

I always liked him, and my most recent story completion (2-3 days ago) hasn’t dimmed that.

He’s the reluctant hero archetype, except he’s foisted into a position of leadership because he’s the guy who knows the most about the enemy. He’s no general, nor even particularly a warrior – but he has plenty of those, of all kinds, from the three orders.

He doesn’t steal your thunder at all – whenever someone is like, “hey well done Trahearne!” he immediately passes the credit on to you.

I think people just hate him because he replaces your order mentors, who weren’t around long enough to be written into the ground. I never particularly liked any of them except maybe Leftpaw, and i could easily see myself getting sick of him had he stuck around much longer. Too cliche’d a character – and not even all that different from Trahearne, just less serious.

Truehorn sounded like MS Sam(computer gen voice)
He wasn’t a leader but deferred all decisions to the PC.
He whined about the position he was given even though the PC did all the work.
His pathing is terrible and would just randomly stop during missions.
He replaced the mentors which all 3 were well done characters, and he was not.
Him and Logan should fight to the death, then let the PC kill the winner.

The big reason I hear is that he stole the glory form the charater, but when I played back threw the PS, every time I did something around Truehorn. he praised me for it, never taking credit. If any NPC started to tell him, that he did a good job, he always pointed out that “It was the Commander”. He was humble the entire time

where do i start….

he comes out of NO WHERE and butts into the story as if we are supposed to know him

he ruins the excitement of missions by lecturing….imagine going on epic adventures, and after every fight getting lectured about american history……by a french person…..when your american

he is incredibly bland, bored sounding, and wimpy (he doesn’t do ANYTHING unless his mother or you tell him. grow a kitten backbone ffs!)

he doesn’t have what it takes to be a general. he’s an advisor at best. and an outsider at that
why are we taking orders from a random person?! the leader of the pact should be one of the leaders of the 3 orders.
like the Vigil’s leader is focused on fighting dragons, she MADE the vigil for just that…..

he skips out on the final fight and does nothing.

plus you are given the opportunity to see what a good character looks like (tybalt or the norn from the vigil) and then Anet says “oh you like these characters? well we gonna kill them and give you this crappy bland character”

if we don’t get to kill him in HoT. i gonna be mad

hell if Trahearne lives through HoT…..

he better freakin die.

I know he is giving us useful lore and background information, but he monologues it and at random times and after fights, which feels odd and inappropriate especially with his flat affect. At the very least the lectures could have been a response to a question I asked rather than him suddenly lecturing out of the blue about some archeological trivia, or whatever he is going on about.

All three of the order npcs are alive and well. well, okay, only two of them. Whichever order you picked, that npc is well dead.

so if you hadn’t picked the order of whispers, tybalt would still be alive. He died as a direct consequence of your choices and actions. Were it not for you, he’d still be alive and well (albeit still missing an arm)

Trahearne is the LEAST of what you deserve.
