Title says it all. I don’t have any motivation to log in and play. I don’t know what it is, and I’m looking for you guys to help me out. Back when the game was just in it’s development stages, I stalked the guild wars website and read about every update and found out as much as I could about the game, I was stoked. I pre-ordered the game, and started my 3 day early start. I enjoyed the game, and had fun playing it. After about a month, maybe less, I lost interest completely. I am in and out of the game, but it would be like maybe an hour for every 3 weeks then I end up logging, for whatever reason. I recently started playing WoW again, and I kind of found out a thing or two. I feel as if WoW has more things to the game whilst your leveling compared to GW2. Dungeon finder, for example. I’m pretty sure GW2 doesn’t have it. Basically, what I’m asking is if you guys could help me point out some cons about GW2 and in which way any other MMO could be better then it. I really want to figure out what it is that stops me from playing. I honestly love watching videos on GW2, and take interest in the game, I just can’t play it. Thank you guys a lot, I’d appriciate it a lot if you helped me out

Leveling in GW2 after a few times just feels dull, With some of the professions, you just feel like you’re doing the MMO equivalent of sitting there eating toast for hours at a time, promising yourself you’ll be able to eat something tasty soon.

WoW does do some things way better than GW2, making the leveling process engaging even for the fifth or so time is pretty much a necessity for how they keep subscribers.

Also they do crafting better, which actually seems relevant to have at max level in that game while in GW2 it’s more like hit 400 and forget about it.

WoW has tons of fluff – it should after almost 10 years. So you can log on and amuse yourself even if you aren’t progressing a character.

GW2 seems to be lacking the fluff. RIFT at least had artifacts which was a great fluff activity and even profitable.

Either you log in and have fun or you don’t log in, I can’t give you any reasons to log in I am not you.

Because no matter how much BS is put infront of you, eventually the truth always comes out. You might not know it, but you feel it. The truth. It sets you free. You’re free, enjoy it. Dont got back. There will be another game made with love, just wait.

Yeah, sorry if I formatted the paragraph really bad, I’m tired. I just honestly don’t know what it is about the game that makes me not want to play it. WoW is more exciting when you level up, and even if Guild Wars has the dynamic event system, it still sorta feels like a grind, doesn’t it? Most of the time I don’t even run into any, and when I do, it’s basically “kill this and that” "collect eggs’’. Sorry if I offended anyone by comparing GW2 to WoW.

You are not alone. The devs have pretty much gated the whole game community into world boss events.

Farming = nerfed into ground.
Dungeons being buffed with bad rewards unless you like blues.
RnG out the wazoo
Diminishing returns
Gated content
Ascended grind
Culling
Bad class balance etc…

WoW is pretty terrible. Ugly graphics, stale combat, brain-dead leveling, can’t move while casting, nodes + mobs aren’t shared, no jumping puzzles, ilvl gates and gearscore gates, monthly fees, loot masters and ninjas steal your loot, they arbitrarily lock people out of content to keep them paying longer, one of the worst communities in gaming history, just yuck.

No wonder they are trying to recruit off the GW2 forum, I hear it’s getting mighty dead over there.

I find your obsession with writing skills on a game forum more interesting. I have to admit it’s a good way to avoid the subject of the thread.

Yep that game now has almost no population. I do enjoy the trinity a lot more than the unorganized and unbalanced mess that the combat in this game has.

Stop being a pedant, it’s perfectly legible. This is a forum not a novel, pull the stick out of that place the sun doesn’t shine.

As for the OP’s concerns I agree that on the face of it GW2 offers a quite shallow gameplay experience compared to a veteran MMO like WoW. Personally I get my enjoyment out of organising group activities with my guild or setting goals such as legendary weapons, dungeon master title, a high lvl in fractals etc.

There is a lot to do but GW2 doesn’t lead you toward these goals, you have to set them for yourself.

I am trying to think what might make my experience different from yours, for I still enjoy the game daily. It could be that we are just too different people. It could be that your expectations were so high after all the website stalking and waiting that nothing could have met them.

There is one thing I know. If you log on a game, any game, expecting it to disappoint you it will. It may also take a little longer than an hour to get into things that are interesting.

How far did you get in your month of playing? More than one lvl 80? Map completion? Do you have friends in your region to play with you or just chat with you? Did you finish the Personal Story? More than once?

The thing about levelling on GW2 is that you can do it very easily, if you want. The easy way is also, in my opinion, a boring way. With my two youngest characters, I have a blast. They have gotten into all sorts of trouble running around the world, dying at least occasionally.

I found the Norn ‘I drank too much’ storyline hilarious which kept my Engineer going for that first bit. Then later I had a laugh when there was a referrence to his buddies at Claw Island. Also I have learned that running multiple characters in different Orders will give one new insights to the complete story. Granted there are repetitive bits, but you have to usually crack many oysters to find a pearl.

The group finder website, as it was stated earlier, does work very well. I was able to find the kind of groups I needed by putting up my own add there. Met very nice people that way and got the tokens for the piece of armor I was after.

The new Daily Achievements have neen beneficial to me. They have ‘forced’ me to do things I would have neglected otherwise. They made me start dodging, for example. Now I am trying to figure out this ‘Condition Giver’ with a class that is not Necromancer.

I think I have said it before, but part of what makes the game interesting for me is being relatively poor. I cannot get everything I want for my characters right now, my team of alts must work for them. Each contributes some way and the ways are varied. Which is the other key factor to me: doing a variety of things at various locales.

I’m having the same feeling when it comes to will to play. I don’t really know what it is, i still enjoy my time ingame, but it went from having a blast to just killing time.

The best part of the game, the one that really impresses you when playing for the first time, is the open world.
It feels alive, unique, and the art style is just mesmerizing. But then, by the time you get to 80 you realize how “the cogs under the hood” work, hearts are just normal quests that trick players by hiding info, events (you probably played em all) you start ignoring unless there is a big reward at the end, and you also get used to the art style.

The magic is shattered, immersion of the first days is gone (story being kitten doesnt help) and you start seeing the game as any other mmo, just a bunch of stats, bosses to kill for loot, grinds for cool items, dungeons to speed run to get quick cash, checklist of dailies you know exactly where and how to complete with the maximum efficency.

Problem is, when the game is reduced to just that ^ , other games do it better. They have been around for more, are more balanced, with more content, and don’t have to deal with “innovation” and all the problems that come with it (trinity makes things alot easier to balance)

Stopping for a few days/weeks helps to get some magic back.
