Q:
Why don't Vistas have a name?
I would love to live the day when the only first world major issue with this game would be the names…..OF THE FREEKIN VISTAS!
………….SERIOUSLY!
Because they are not landmarks. If you go on vacation and see a lovely valley, you do not say “if only this spot right here that I am viewing this valley from had a name”.
Vistas are just ways for the game to say “isn’t this beautiful?” It does not get a name because why would it?

Well when you’re a tourist you bring your tour guide and there they explain what you’re looking at. Here you have Vistas pointing at some objects that you know nothing about, a lot of times it doesn’t even have a PoI.
Because maybe that waterfall over there doesn’t have a name? It’s just a pretty waterfall. I’m pretty sure you can tell that it’s a waterfall on your own.
They were added late in the Beta Weekends as incentives for folks to look at these nice spots. At least that’s how I remembered the reason why they were incorporated.
So really they aren’t landmarks per se, but just “hey lookie” moments.
As such there’s not much priority towards naming them.
What an odd comment. For places to not have a name. Darn near every valley, water fall, mountain range, pool of water, lake, everything in tourism is named.
So you go to Arizona and you see the Grand Canyon. That’s named it’s not some random hole in the ground. Even if the name is as simple as. Farmer Paul’s left corn field it’s named.
Ok, let me take a stab at this one.
A “Vista” is just another word for a pleasing or picturesque view.
As you are walking along you may come to a side trail with a sign that just says “Vista”. Now you take the trail to the vista and it opens up out of the forest to a rocky outcropping overlooking rolling tree covered mountains with a vast valley between. Running thru the valley is a roaring river with an island in the middle and the ruins of an old castle seemingly rising out of the water’s surface. The river then starts to and wind down in a more calm and leisurely meander as it flows toward a far away delta and out to sea.
So what should we name this view. Do we call it Castle Vista, Riverdale Vista, Timberland Mountain Vista, Island Vista or maybe even Ocean Delta Vista.
The point is if the view is given a name it would focus the viewer to a particular location or object instead of allowing each person to take away from the experience what they deem is the beauty of the scene without being tainted by the observance and subsiquent naming from one who came before.
Wow, I think I channeled my inner Hippie there. Hope that helps.
