Im trying to understand why people don’t like it or are attracted to SPvP, If you ask the PvP forums they all respond with things like “tank meta” or “MMR / leaderboard structure”.

Why dont PvE’ers and WvW’ers like SPvP??
What could be done to fix* it?

I am not talking about custom or unranked PvP

I love it for the reactions, the chat is amazing haha

Also I like it when I get PMs, positive or Negative.
I main a Ranger, and have done since the start of GW1
PMs are interesting because it is usually “Kitten Ranger Noob” etc
Or rarely
“My god you’re a good Ranger” and friendships have grown from those PMs

I even had one guy start PMing me raging and cussing, I gave him a minute and then said “finished” he was like “Yea I’m sorry man, you’re just good and I’m new to thief”

I hated sPvP when I had a terrible computer. It was impossible to be effective at anything with 2-6 FPS.

I mostly love it now. Some days I get matched over and over with people who heckle each other (in the mean way) in mapchat, or get terribly imbalanced team compositions over and over. I hate it on those days, and just find something else to do. That doesn’t happen too often though.

I am just going to take a guess that you are a very casual player with a small window of time you’re able to play and you don’t like being destroyed in pvp during the time you have to play.

Have you tried practicing with friends or group queuing?

Because I’m a sperg who can’t think/react quickly enough.

I was always pvp player in most of mmos I played in past but here.. I dont know all works like a charm but still. I dont see any motivation and I dont mean only rewards. Some even temporary progressions.
Good example if it is WvW where you over and over fight for points but battle dont move enywhere. I played before Warhammer online where was basicly same open pvp system like here in WvW but with 2 sides instead of 3. What was amazing there wasnt only keeps what you capture back and forth. There was whole campaign where you first capture 2/3 realms at once they capture main fortress then assault main city in 3 stages and then fight enemy king and if you won their city with unique dungs and rewards was open for you for next 24 hours. Something like this we need here.

But unfortunately, as the old saying goes, ‘It takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch.’ And I personally have had more then my fair share of foul-mouthed, rage-fueled mental children who take PvP way too seriously to be healthy.

Some people might find getting page after page of verbal garbage vomited at them amusing. And hey, if you do, then great. Nothing against you.

Very very poorly. Didn’t go into WvW much. I had a hard time in PvE as well, but I wasn’t letting a team down when I got killed by a stag in Queensdale, rofl.

Although I play it everyday my main gripe with pvp is some of the players. There are a whole lot of really…what’s the word…kitten holes in pvp. Ever heard the expression “one bad apple can spoil the bunch”? In pvp’s case it’s a bunch of bad apples.

1. more game modes
2. larger maps
3. on some maps more than just 10 players

I would like to see a 2v2 ladder / arena. have you tried the deathmatch map?

Suffered through tourneys until I got the champ titles I wanted. Never again. The small scale combat is the exact opposit of what I want from a PvP format. It’s basically the Call of Duty as opposed to what I hoped would be Battlefield.
WvW has incredible performance problems and the open maps make it more of a player versus structure with some PvE mixed in.

Before I bought the game, I hoped I’d get another alterac in the GW2 engine; Just like WvW but in a narrow corrider where the opposing factions have to fight each other in order to win. God I miss alterac

2. larger maps This is something i would honestly hate to see, maps should not be so big it takes forever to get to the other sides cap / point / objective.

I’ve thought about doing this in matches where people are being particularly gross. But not everything that’s said in mapchat is hurtful. Sometimes mapchat can be funny, or people ask relevant questions, or just amicable. I’d hate to miss everything that’s being said just because one or two people can’t behave like adults.

Doesn’t playing against NPC’s with predictable phases imply the same thing?

I’m a PvE player who’s playing a lot of PvP lately, and it seems that builds are actually a problem for those new to PvP.

While you can get away with your “play how you want” build in PvE, you’re most likely to get squished in PvP if you use the exact same.

So it can be quite the dramatic change in gameplay, also players that aren’t fast or need a bit longer won’t find those seconds in PvP because they’re already dead most likely :P

How to promote PvP?
Check Metabattle.com and search for a build that uses weapons / skills you like, then start using that. Another great thing is group up with your friends / guildies and play for fun!

Don’t play hotjoin, don’t play ranked. Play unranked!
Why? Hotjoin can be a big miss at times, unranked gives you everything a ranked game does but in a more safe learning environment.

Research some stuff on your build / PvP – ask the forums if you have a specific question.
I’ve found the more you learn and are able to use that information in-game, the more fun it’ll become

I had this problem before but then after 30 games / wins or so with my class I found my self tweaking the builds from metabattle alot more to my liking and have been doing great since.

The Courtyard (the deathmatch map) is by far the worst map in map pool.

Deathmatch on small map can work only with 1 live per player (aka 5v5 arena in wow) or safe place to regroup. If you add respawns, you must also add a safe place to regroup. Unfortunately this map is too small and there is no such place. You can’t even regroup on spawn because game will teleport you down into the “pit” after short time after respawn. If one team loose more than 1 person, they are most likely doomed to be spawn camped.

Also since this map is so small but yet with many terain features allowing relatively easy loosing of the LoS. It heavily favore classes/builds with strong AOE, mass CC and conditions.

Reported them when they paged me and blocked them.
Turned off emotes when they start getting creative with those too.

And quite simply put, I don’t feel like dealing with it anymore. I didn’t like it in any other game I played over the years and I don’t like it here.

Because I am terrible at 1v1, because I have no idea how to PvP (I can’t even figure out how to join..lol).

Because for some odd reason it doesn’t bother me to be killed by an NPC, but it does bother me when another player does so. I have no idea why. /shrug

I would like to give it a try, but mostly it sounds less than fun because of all the trash talk, etc.

I’m not a competitive person. I don’t really get the whole “need to stroke my ego” bit.

I just started doing pvp with friends in unranked mode. I think I have a bit more to go before I can instinctively know when to fight, when to run, when to leave points, how to use each map feature advantageously, etc. I don’t solo queue, I don’t even like to queue with a 4 man party…. I get discouraged easily and I’m very self conscious about how I play. That means I will never solo queue, and I never want to face the more experienced teams that I assume I’d fight in ranked arena. I’ve only had one instance where map chat made me stop pvp’ing for the day, and since then I avoid map chat during a match unless the other team is being friendly. I’m not a casual player. I play several hours daily. I do believe that most of us have a skill ceiling, and there are some things I will never excel at. I’m not the worst, but I will never be among the best. For that reason, I prefer to play unranked with a full party of friends.

What i dislike about gw2 pvp is the game type. Add more variety!! You want the game to be esport material but doesnt mean us players have to suffer. Let the ppl who wants the game to be esport play conquest but for the rest of us… GIVE US OPTIONS!

I go to play in unranked, which I assume is the PvP map for noobs, and map chat is filled with, OMG my teammates are all noobs, everyone on my team sux so bad, etc, etc, etc.

That’s the main reason why PvE people don’t like PvP.

I play MMOs for large scale gameplay, not Arenas with no story background.
I don’t mind small scale PvP when it’s part of the story, such as the Instanced PvP in WoW, Warhammer, Vanilla Rift before Mercs, etc. but I don’t like too small scale gameplay. Feels too much like a small group duel.

And in most duels the game is nothing but a kill match rather than role match. I like playing roles to help my team win. This is why I enjoyed certain large scale FPS games over others, because the developers designed the game to have more useful roles than just killing, to feel rewarding.

Why i dont like it? Cause its extremely boring. 3 points… take em over.. stand on them, wait. Defend them… and thats it..cept for…what..like 2 maps where you got a form of “side task” to the standing on a cyrcle? Almost everybody runs a meta build with zero creativity and the meta builds only change when the next patch notes come in. Dont even try to be creative and make up your own build.. cause ya aint getting anywhere. I am also almost expected to do a certain thing and ONLY that certain thing if i play a class and guess what… if i sorta do whats expected i get kittened at by the other team.
“why dont you use turrets as engi?” “kittening turret engineer, gtfo my game” Also 90% of the balance changes are arround PVP and make my PVE playtime less enjoyable thanks to countless nerfing cause a trait\skill\tactic ended up in a pvp meta build and everybody screamed bloody murder cause too many people started to use the tactic. I did pvp once.. to get that flaming backpiece for my ele and god shoot me.. never again…cept there happens to be an item i like and even then i gonna consider it twice.

How to fix it? I dunno.. how about allowing more build options and mixing stats to put more health or attack power or whatever where YOU feel you need it.. cause you cant do that at all in pvp. No wiggle room for anything, might aswell right away put the meta builds into the build editor. Also seperate the darn balancing from pve and wvw 100% finally.

I mean like Ranked queue, whether that be group / solo. I understand where you are coming from but you cant seriously put a ceiling on your self by saying you will never be among the best.

Most PvE players play the game to have fun. When PvE players step foot into PvP to try it out they are turned off when they get a message like, “I hate you kitten you! You suck. F you noob!”.

It is well known and mentioned often in the PvP forum how toxic PvP players can be. Who wants to deal with that? Not players that just want to have fun.

I never wanted to un-validate what you said, but PvP is a competitive enviroment much like any other PvP game / sport, you will have trash talking and bad mouthing as a part of it. You have to be able to accept it and live on with your life without being affected by it.
