Odd, I didn’t know someone had to have specific reasons to not like PvP? How about it’s not my style, having said that though, I did play some PvP in GW1, on rare occasions when our PvE guild wanted to do some PvP(we have some PvP members, but they eventually left) and I participated in HoH/GvG matches, but almost always had to play my monk…even though I wasn’t the best healer, I did a decent enough job most of the time. Though in HoH we did do the Ranger thing. PvP has never been my favorite game mode, not even when I would play an occasional FPS…I was always there as the cannon fodder for everyone else or to take away enemies from trying to kill my sons, but I had fun, and somewhere along the way…I must have done some PvP otherwise I wouldn’t have any rank points, not that I remember actually participating and it must have been during the first 6 months to year some time. I just do not like it…which doesn’t explain why I like the WvW(of course, I haven’t been there in quite a while, but I do find that fun[might have to do with the time I was mapping with my engi naked and someone thought I was an easy kill…to bad for him I managed to kill him first…must have been embarrassed to be killed underwater, no less by a naked engi]).

WuGzaGenius, You asked a question why people don’t like PvP. Myself and others answered it. What it comes down to is how toxic the PvP environment is. It is one thing to play a competitive game with good sportsmanship. It is another when 4 times out of 5 a player is insulted and degraded win or lose. This is why many people don’t like PvP.

Personally I find the pvp here to restrictive and unimaginative.
*One gamemode
*Everyone is usually running the same thing and doing the same thing every match
its either bunker up and guard caps or gank
*There are spirits, stealth, turrets, illusions, minions…seeing all this just makes pvp seem like a joke to me

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

you will have trash talking and bad mouthing as a part of it. You have to be able to accept it and live on with your life without being affected by it.

Actually, trash talking and bad mouthing are reactions of players who aren’t able to control their own temper. That players get irritated by playing a game is on their side, not on the player who causes the irritating (assuming we’re talking about players who just play for fun, not to be irritating on purpose.

You don’t have to accept anything, and it’s rather annoying that it causes bad impressions at players who play for fun.

Too toxic and/or competitive for my tastes.

I play for fun, to relax. It is my experience that this is pretty much impossible in a pvp environment. PvP environments are too competitive for that. And I like working together with people, not against them.

I’m not saying PvP is bad per se, it just isn’t for me.

I enjoy the gameplay itself of the PvP scene, it’s the other players that I have an aversion to. See, everyone and their mother will insist that you are playing wrong and that you are a horrible person for having the audacity to play something different from them.

Then you have the ones who think they are better than you without realizing that all players in PvP are nothing but target practice. That’s how I see it. You are all just practice, nothing more. I use other players to test the effectiveness of builds. Feel free to see me in the same light, it’s totally fine.

The chat is irrelevant because you can simply turn if off, which I usually do because no one ever has anything to say that is even worth reading. It is literally a cesspool. I use party chat to communicate with those on my team, but that’s it.

I do like the reward tracks, those are great. I get that not all players in the PvP are trashy people, but nothing good for me ever came from talking to people in PvP. I beat one person and here comes a firestorm of cursing and other attempts to offend me. I just let them say whatever they want and think nothing of it. I just chuckle and keep playing the game, because playing the game is fun.

As a fairly casual player that has still managed to rack up over 2000 hrs playing the game, I am scared to PvP because I have bad nerves, and I know my “team” would be hoping I wouldn’t be a total fail. I can’t do things like remember how every weapon an ele uses works, or think fast enough to know that this type of thief has these skills, etc, and from reading on the forums, that’s a huge part of winning PvP matches – anticipating your opponent’s moves, cool downs, etc. On top of that, I have life going on around me, so sometimes have to leave the game fast. Also my husband hates it when I have headphones on and so I don’t like to do anything that requires being on TS (don’t know if that is required for PvP but it keeps me out of most dungeons).

I really do want to try it, and have started just getting some PvP dailies in my guild’s custom arena, so at least I’m getting used to the maps. I really enjoy WvW and I think I could end up enjoying PvP as well – eventually. But ya, I also have a huge fear of failure.

I mean like Ranked queue, whether that be group / solo. I understand where you are coming from but you cant seriously put a ceiling on your self by saying you will never be among the best.

Yes, you can.

I know I will never be. In PvE, WvW, or PvP. I can’t remember a rotation that I have to do on a character, much less more than one. I don’t have the hand/eye coordination/reflexes/skill to move about the map. I tend to be like a tree. And I know myself well enough that it’s not going to change. Not until ANet makes it very very very very very painful to be a tree. And that chance is very very very low given the general direction they tend to go with on updating the game. Casual friendly. It would have to not be casual friendly to break my habit.

Plus, the plateau does mean that I will always be able to find myself a challenge.

I don’t PvP because I’m not very competitive. And I tend to lose when I do participate in anything PvP related (WvW). Even in other games. I don’t find the mode attractive. And nothing ANet does will ever change that. I may participate in it if ANet ever rewards something highly attractive for PvE in PvP, but I won’t like it. Like precursor level attractive.

Because you have to go through the hassle of building up a template separate from PvE and WvW, which requires a lot of research for each class you use. Not only that, but there’s only one game mode and the maps are small. The UI is also very unintuitive and confusing (at first) to veteran MMO players from other games. It’s built mostly for FPS players. But most of all, it’s just not fun, when everything is so fast paced and frantic, with skills and CC with 2 second durations (exaggerating here), making them worthless to use in the first place. It’s like trying to play counter-strike or COD but with fantasy skills. It just doesn’t mesh well.

I don’t really play it because it feels like a totally different game.
It feels like there’s no real connection between what you achieve in pve/wvw and spvp (besides rewards).

If there was actual maps in the living world with hostile factions pvp, I would have enjoyed it more.
Well, basically I’m just saying I would have enjoyed WvW like contents integrated in some parts of the world map…

Im trying to understand why people don’t like it or are attracted to SPvP, If you ask the PvP forums they all respond with things like “tank meta” or “MMR / leaderboard structure”.

Why dont PvE’ers and WvW’ers like SPvP??
What could be done to fix* it?

I am not talking about custom or unranked PvP

I play a bit of everything. The biggest issue with pvp is that it never get anything new. Ranked queue doesnt have courtyard, skyahammer, spirit watch, etc. In spvp takes ages for them to add the new wvw/pve sigils and runes.

Focusing all the game balance around 5v5 conquest mode is killing the pvp for this game. This balance approach and the wannabe esport is what makes gw2 pvp get no new game mode, no new maps, nothing changes. We actually lost 8v8 hotjoin, lost solo queue, lost underwater map,etc..

Take a look at other esports like lol/dota they basically have only 1 map and 1 game mode. This might work for mobas but this game is an mmorpg and not esports. For gw2 the focus in try to become esport is slowly killing the pvp. Slowly removing features and making players focus in other aspects of the game.

I’m not a competitive person. I don’t really get the whole “need to stroke my ego” bit.

Mostly this. I also never cared for min/maxing in games (having the most effective builds, gear, professions, etc.), which means I’ll probably be slaughtered every prime I go in there. It simply doesn’t sound like fun. And that’s why I play this game: for fun. My motto for my spare time: if it ain’t fun, don’t do it.

At least in WvW, there are ways to get away of people from the other sides….

At launch 1st time i tried pvp i was trying 2 hit an Asura behind a rock or smth and could not, while he was kicking my kitten attacking from behind it so i thought that it was a good spot and was standing there with my Norn well it turned out that it was only a good spot for an Asura and the broken hitbox… It was a GG for me and left the mode for years…

Recently i went over the whole hassle switch some gear, take some builds etc…
And went unranked of course the option of same models does not work there,
decided to give it a try anyways. At first it was smth new, after 3rd mach it become boring…

Now my biggest Problem with Pvp, Wvw is that you need 2 go over the whole switching gear change skills witch some of those work differently, Wvw is still a numbers game rather than strategy and cooperation. Because of the changes they are making for PvP, PvE is less and less enjoyable. They are trying so hard to get on the whole E-Sport train when they should focus on the game as a ONE, not 3 different mods. Also as some one mentioned before the maps in PvP are a cluster f… 2 small…

I do try to log in everyday do some dungeon etc.. in hope for a better future… but every patch note i’m losing hope more, and less i feel like i want too login… And i don’t even want too watch Gw2 pvp on twitch… It discuses me seeing it…

For Pvp i play regularly games like :
CS:GO, Tekken, LoL, recently ive been trying too learn SC2 witch has community lvl of toxicity close to -10% just awesome ppl.

PS.
I did rly enjoy pvp in Lineage 2 back in the day ;]

I can’t say I don’t like it as I’ve never tried it beyond a short spectator mode join that confused and dizzied me thanks to camera motion I could not control.

It certainly looked fun in the pre-launch videos. On launch weekend my guildies and I decided to try it out, but the NPC that got you in was broken and no one could do it. (We did not know at the time that you could not join as a group anyway). Then I got caught up in many other things and by the time I vaguely considered seeing if ANet’s version of PvP would be more fun for me than in other games (I absolutely hate the feeling that other people are gunning for me, by the way, it’s constant paranoid adrenaline stress that unsettles and frazzles me in short order, and I am usually an easy PK in any PvP scenario), well, I’d found out I could only do it with strangers and I gave up.

Now apparently there is a way to team up. My guildies have been going in, coordinating on Mumble, and doing dailies in it. It’s possible they’ll talk me into giving it a go. Yet somehow I think my life can be complete without PvP. I’m with Xander and LadyRhonwyn in my lack of interest in competitive min-maxing.

A few reasons:

  1. It doesn’t really feel like it’s “me” fighting. Neutered characters, skills, everything. MMORPGs have always been extremely character- (not player-) centric for me, and as such losing my character and playing some normalized clone robs me of my main connection to the char on screen.
  2. Too small groups. +M+MORPG. WvW is more or less exactly the size I want MMO-combat to be, or bigger. Needs collision detection and more focus on actual sieges but yeah. sPvP is the polar opposite, it’s tiny and feel contrived.
  3. Feels non-fitting in the world. Rich lore of Tyria. Expansive mist war. Then some non-contextualized random maps, and one minute you’re somewhere in Ascalon, next you’re shooting someone with an asuran artillery. Lacks context of meaning.
The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I’m just not a fan of killing other players, or doing things that can negatively impact on their gameplay.

That, plus the community can be quite toxic (as can all), cookie-cutter builds reign supreme (as with other modes) and I simply have zero interest in it.

What they said.

For me, it’s several things.

  • Too fast paced.
  • Too toxic.
  • Too many cookie cutter characters.
  • Reduced build choices. (Admittedly, goes with the previous.)
  • I generally don’t enjoy attacking other players.

Now, do I do SPvP? Yes, a little. There’s rewards I want, and this is the best way for me to get them. But I stay in practice, and I don’t talk to anyone. I don’t take it seriously, and I hate it when people do.

Because there isn’t enough players for the MMR to work correctly.. so most of the matches are completely one sided

Most people doesn’t understand the concept of capture the point as well as decap and rotations . (lack of modes of game DM , etc)

The lack of new maps or develop overall in pvp

Recently the fact that you have to be in HOTM to queque , is some times too much waste of time , that i end up closing the game .

I personally like spvp.. but lets say the most part of it is frustrating , i think having new modes of game would definitely help pvp

Eh I’ve never found competitive modes in video games very interesting. For example, in Left 4 Dead I thoroughly enjoy the coop mode but absolutely hate the versus mode. Competition just doesn’t do it for me.

Working with others without any competition is fantastic, and Guild Wars 2 overall has more opportunities to do this regularly.

Back in GW1 I did some Alliance Battles and Fort Aspenwood PvP area very rarely. It wasn’t very satisfying, but it was certainly more interesting than Guild Wars 2 PvP. There’s something about being able to see skill activation stop after casting Blackout, then swiping away with an IW mesmer that just doesn’t exist in GW2.

I don’t like SPvP for a few reasons. First, I live in Tasmania and sometimes, I don’t get enough time to react to be particularly effective. People who live in the States will have an advantage over me, even if it’s only half a second. That’s a pretty big advantage in PvP.

More to the point, when AI kills me in PvE, they don’t dance on my body or call me noob. Obviously it doesn’t hurt me if someone calls me a noob, but I don’t enjoy it either. I prefer to choose the people I hang out with, like my guild, and the more vocal kiddies who PvP and think how great they are, aren’t people I enjoy hanging around with.

I went into a PvP match I think it might have been yesterday, it was hotjoin, and there was a guild group on mumble just farming people. No one really had a chance, because they were pretty good. They were getting points, but blocking everyone else from getting anything.

Now, I could have gone and got my guild, and gone in there with a team of us, but for what purpose? So I could be as obnoxious as that group?

They kept making snide comments about teamspeak for the win and stuff like that, just to rub in the faces of people that they were going to beat our uncoordinated team, which of course is likely the case.

They used tricks to transfer from side to side, like leaving the match and waiting for autobalance so they could rejoin on the other side.

I like a good close game of SPvP between two evenly matched teams. But I only get that maybe half the time (if that). So my time in PvE is more enjoyable because I have more control over the experience.

It’s the same reason I don’t pug dungeons.

Well said. I disagree with the notion that trash talking and bad mouthing is an “acceptable” part of competitive activity. There’s such a thing as being a good sportsman, after all. If the most skilled PvP player in the world constantly insulted and belittled his opponents (or even his own teammates), I would have zero respect for him and interest in his accomplishments, no matter how good he was. It shows to me that he does not respect other people, and that usually does not speak well of him as a person.

As to the original question, I enjoy PvP on occasion, and I do the dailies every day for the reward tracks, but Unranked/Ranked arenas are far too serious for my liking. People get SO upset when they lose, and they usually start pointing fingers immediately.

While I disagree with you as a whole, I especially disagree with your #3.

One of the awesome things about PvP is the extreme variety between the maps, being in an Ascalon-esque place in time one moment and than suddenly we’re at some Asura testing grounds with a giant death laser everyone’s fighting over, in addition to each other.

I much appreciate that myself.
_

I like PvP. It’s fun.

For people complaining about jerks that play, without becoming utterly draconian in enforcement, that some people are kittenhats can’t be helped.

It’s a competitive environment. People can be/are ugly creatures. You can’t let other people dictate what you do and do not do with yourself.

If you want to play PvP, other people’s thoughts or opinions shouldn’t be a factor in that equation.

If they mouth off at you with colorfully expletive diatribes, you can report them for that and if they can’t soon control their anger it’ll be their undoing.

Regardless of how good or bad they think they are.

The ToS always wins. Use it to your advantage. The community is only as good as the people who care enough to report fouls. Hate those smutty chats in the HoTM?

Do something about it. Report people. It’s pretty easy to do.

Anet does care about the community and it does get dealt with. They often show up in person, whether you know it (Anet tag on) or not (Anet tag off).

But whether they do or don’t show up, the reports do get dealt with. Everything is logged.

I think this is a simplification of the problem. It’s very easy to say if this bothers you, it shouldn’t. But it doesn’t work for the same reason telling someone not to be scared of spiders doesn’t work. Because emotional reactions are not logical, almost by definition.

If something doesn’t bother you, then that’s great. That’s fantastic. But if it does bother other people, saying it shouldn’t helps not at all. Because it’s an emotional reaction born of a person’s genetics and experience.

Take a person that’s been abused or bullied. I guarantee you there are no shortage of people. The amount of effort/work it would take to be able to stay in an area with people hurling abuse at you is prohibitive. This is a game. People don’t play it to feed their families. Because of this, it’s out of people’s comfort zones and they won’t do it.

I do it because my genetics and experience allow me to, but it’s missing the point to say just don’t let it bother you. Many people don’t have that option.

Fair enough. That’s one possibility and if that’s true of someone, you’re spot on. It can’t be helped.

I say that because at one time I was bothered by people who hurled hate my way when I wasn’t very good (and I’m pretty sure I’m not cash-money good right now either).

After some chat with my friends and guildies, a bit of introspection, I came to realize that was a very stupid reason to avoid something I otherwise enjoyed.

Because of the fact it’s a game. My game. And those people can go kitten themselves.

With that I can enjoy PvP, it’s fun. I’m good to a point I do get hate whispers from some people telling me how cheap I am and other such colorful language.

And that’s okay. It’s funny even!

If you like PvP and you don’t have a psycho-genetic aversion to some of the unsavory types (which is legit, no hate, sorry to hear that), it’s okay to play PvP. Really.

Can’t really “fix” an utter lack of interest in a certain mode. I’ve tried it out, doesn’t really entertain me much, and there are far too many toxic players (granted PvE has its fair share too, but I just don’t hear as much from them). I’m reminded that there are lousy people of questionable worth every day when I read the news, it’s just silly to do that again when trying to enjoy myself in a game.

I recognize there are plenty of nice people in PvP, but – as in any situation – they’re generally not the most vocal ones. It’s the kids screaming death threats over trivialities or making 9/11 jokes that get noticed first and foremost.

Feels non-fitting in the world. Rich lore of Tyria. Expansive mist war. Then some non-contextualized random maps, and one minute you’re somewhere in Ascalon, next you’re shooting someone with an asuran artillery. Lacks context of meaning.

Really.

I actually get pretty stressed when I PvP. I still do it because I enjoy it, but there are times when it becomes too stressful and I have to walk away. It’s probably unhealthy for me to PvP, but I still do it.

I’m not sure I’d recommend it to anyone. I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t be doing it myself. lol

Because it’s not as fun, meaningful, and team-oriented as GW pvp is, and therefore isn’t able to give me the daily fix of pvp GW (still) could/can.
Also, GW2 pvp drama falls just as flat as the pvp itself.

For one, the stats are totally messed up, creating a very restrictive selection of builds and styles of play which can be considered as even remotely effective. The balancing efforts have only contributed to such strictness; often a nerf or buff will define entire builds or remove them from the scope of extensive viability. The fact that it’s gotten to the point where I can claim who will win by class selection with over 90% accuracy emphasizes this.

The next being that the game is too fast-paced and the action is too slow. Movement is basically a frenzy of getting on/off points and constantly dying and quickly respawning/getting back in the fight before it ends and combat between players with intermittent objectives, due to nerfed skill coefficients, blatantly higher defense values over WvW and PvE, alternative stat nerfs, and inherently lower offensive stats make combat just take too long (which is both a cause and byproduct of the tight scheme of build viability). In sPvP, I feel like everyone’s given a pillow to kill each other while wearing plate-mail. People just don’t die when they rightfully should.

The toxicity is unbelievable. Most players I encounter in sPvP seems to pretend that they’re some kind of pro player and that if they die it’s because of luck or their teammate’s failure to act correctly. The fact teammates frequently spew insults because “you only got top player because you didn’t help fight” (or the opposite), certainly seems to demonstrate that most of the folks in there are in there for their own benefit/egos and have no respect for anyone who does something better than them, be it getting out-played by the enemy or outlasted/outdone by their allies.

Several reasons.

#1. Few game modes and those that do exist are mixed together randomly.

A build that is amazing for bunkering a point in conquest might be awful in courtyard since the objective is entirely different. Having TDM as well as Conquest is great, I hope there are more TDM maps in the future with different terrain and such, but people should be able to Queue for TDM separately. Not some wheel of RNG map picker.

#2. Gimmicky maps. Every map has a gimmick it’s not just different terrain to learn to utilize and fight on there are gimmicks that can radically alter how a game plays out. Some are okay such as Foefire and Niflhel. Others just suck the fun right out of team fights because they’re overpowered area control things, the Trebs in Khylo and the Skyhammer Skyhammer is especially bad because you stick a terrormancer on the skyhammer and you pretty much can’t get them off of it, they’ll just fear you off the edge to death

#3. Downed status. Nothing ruins your match more than when you get someone downed and they can utilize downed skills to stall for enough time to get backup. You can handily win that 1v1 fight, and then it becomes a 3 on 1 fight and you’re dead.

#4, and probably most important to PVE/WvW players, completely cancer ridden toxic community. People sending you insulting tells or calling you out in chat when you beat them in rage or gloating and strutting around and telling you things like kill yourself when they beat you.

I don’t need that in my games.

Tried it a few times. In each case I was subject to messages like, “Noob GTFO”, “Moa me, you suck cheese build”, “You suck, I hope you die”

I don’t care to participate in such a hostile environment that doesn’t respect sportsmanship. It is my impression that many PvP players cannot control themselves from insulting others when they lose or win. That is one reason I hope there is no open world dueling.

I agree, I’ve always thought it was a terrible scenario to put a bunch of video game nerds, who probably never learned sportsmanship as a concept because they hated sports and PE, and put them in a competitive environment.

Because you either have to play bunker or a thief. If you want to play a zerker/offensive spec of any other class get ready to be farmed by thieves and warriors, because thieves and warriors both have really easy to land huge spike while having tons of active mitigation tools.

So if I play a ranger and don’t want to be thief food, I gotta build spirits or BM bunker.

None of the classes that aren’t thief or warrior have the escape tools to play effectively an offensive power based spec.

If you’re playing a necro in particular get used to the diea of having a team babysit you beause you can’t be self sufficient at all when you get CC’d to death or just torn apart by the nearby warrior and thief combo.

And then there’s also the bunkers which you stand no chance against as a power spec unless you are a warrior or thief. Maybe mesmer but mesmer is just a crappier thief.

Well, maybe it’s social commentary about the diminishing respect of sportsmanship in athletics as well. Sportsmanship USED to be a big part of all sports and you learned it in PE class as a kid, and thats if your parents weren’t teaching it to you earlier as you played games with your family and friends.

Now days trash talking is considered “normal”. I consider it disgusting and people should be getting fined more often and more heavily for poor sportsmanship or voiding their contracts.

I don’t know why people complain about verbal abuse from other players. I very rarely see that.

The reasons i hate PVP?

- Terrible matchmaking: one day you rip through enemies and the next you get destroyed by pro teams. Isn’t there any middle ground?

- stupid minion AI. i play as a necro, and cant believe that, after 2 years and a half, anet still hasn’t fixed at least the flesh golem. Not only does it stand there not doing anything many times, it also doesn’t use his only skill when told to more often than not.

- game modes: the capture the point system should be one of the options, not the only one. the slight variations in each map are not enough to detract from the fact that you are still capturing points all the time.

- lag: i have 100MB internet connection. I was able to play WOW without a problem. Now with this game? perfect play is impossible. The same stupid lag i have with musical instruments (that makes it impossible to play anything unless you are deaf or switch the volume off) is present in pvp. Many skills don’t fire at all due to this. Frustrating.

- randoms: i play ranked arenas with random teams. This, of course, is suicide most of the time. But the worst is when people don’t attend to reason. Last match, i went to capture the home point, and 2 seconds later 2 more guys came and stay there to cap the point. WTK? that’s just a small example. I understand, though, that i myself might be not as good as other people who play with me would like, so this point is actually the less important.

The approach that anet had on pvp imo is unmatched. No body has any statistical advantage over another player outside of their starting health pool and armor type, consumable buffs are non-existent, and various sets/runes/sigils are not allowed for obvious exploitation.

Anet if you can read this, you’re last update (preview) is EXACTLY the kind of balance I wish I saw in this game every (2?) weeks regardless of where the living story is at. Balance isn’t something you should let soak in until people cry or find deep flaws, it should be addressed constantly because people find new things and also if a trend appears where a majority of players are playing a specific build only, I feel as it would be wise to address it in some fair way.

Just like the preview notes have it, not only are the changes small as to not surprise anyone, there are a lot of them as well as explanations to the change which lets the player base know where you are coming with said change rather than just because someone in the office said so.

So, BRAVO, even though I only care for maybe a fraction of the upcoming balance changes, the execution was spot on. Im slowly gana be inch’ing my way back into gw2 given the last few updates in what feels like a fresh approach

It just doesn’t interest me. There’s no story, no progression beyond a points system (you don’t unlock new maps for example) and you don’t have the same freedom as in PvE or even WvW to do things at your own pace or in your own way because you’re locked into a rigid match structure and the rest of your team is depending on you to do your job.

This isn’t specific to GW2 BTW, I very rarely like PvP in any game and when I do it’s extremely casual.

In GW2 I did enough when practising for the Tournament of Legends 2 to see how it worked, got extremely lucky and won a llama mini because the other team didn’t turn up for our first match, lost the second and haven’t been back since.

I can kind of see why some people like it, but I have more fun doing PvE and if I want something more varied/unpredictable than the AI to beat WvW.

I made a rant on this a year ago, which was very lenghty, so I’ll try to keep it short:

- 1 Game mode
- 4 Maps
- Maps are not really different, 3 points, 1 small twist
- It’s not satisfying to win – can’t really explain, whenever I win I feel like “okay, that’s over”, whenever I win in eg.: LoL I feel like “MAN THAT WAS AWESOME!” – even in faceroll matches
- Rewards are pretty bad
- Balance updates are rare
- Lack of customization – meaning gear, runes, sigils, no character/skill swap whithin matches
- No comebacks – 90% of the time if you have 10 – 100 points you’re gonna lose, there’s no coming back (again, in LoL it just takes some better coordination)
- Always the same goal – reach 500 points
- No real seasons, divisions, prizes, progression tracking – expect leaderboard which is… bad
- Few builds dominating
- No real skill – no matter how skillful you are, you are never gonna win 1v2 (given your enemy is decent) – dodge all you like, interrupt what you want, you are not gonna get the satisfaction of killing 2 Soldiers and the Medic with a Scout (TF2)
- Combat boils down to dodging and interrupting

Now, do I do SPvP? Yes, a little. There’s rewards I want, and this is the best way for me to get them. But I stay in practice, and I don’t talk to anyone. I don’t take it seriously, and I hate it when people do.

This is my experience as well. I started PvP solely for the rewards, and over time actually started to enjoy the gameplay, but I’m not competitive enough to take the game as seriously as hardcore players do. Many, I would argue, take the game too seriously and become toxic as a result. They’re frustrated with the way the game is progressing and can’t help but take it out on their own team. In-fighting loses just as many matches as weak skills, poor co-ordination or not understanding PvP mechanics.

And that’s why I avoid ranked. Unranked matches provide the same level of progress with about half the stress.

Conquest is also pretty boring to me. I prefer the fast paced action of team deathmatch in the Courtyard. A few more maps for this game mode would be perfect, imo.

I don’t know the difference between unranked or ranked. I only know that I’ve been to PvP, completed the tutorial, and fought a few of those random matches.

I didn’t enjoy it. The maps are lifeless and uninteresting, and I fail to understand what difference it makes whether I capture a ring or not. I guess points? That’s it?

The real problem for me though was that I can’t use my own gear. My build does not exist at all in PvP. Whenever in there, I felt like I was playing someone else’s kitten character with poor and limited gear options. It wasn’t my character and I felt disconnected from the proceedings.
