Why dont asuras have long hair
Potion Sella
Is this a lore culture thing or just hasnt been put in the system?
Judging from the Charr hair that doesn’t seem like possible reason for not putting things in …
It’s weird that Asura even HAVE hair. They evolved as a subterranean race, and subterranean races generally do not need hair as insulation because a) geothermal heat keeps the underground warm to hot, and b) without inclement weather, there’s no rain or snow to pose a potential threat to body temperature.

They may have evolved as a subterranean race but that’s not where they started from. They’re mammals and mammals originated on the surface, and have hair. Whether or not an intelligent underground race keeps head hair might depend on whether hair is considered beautiful. Since female Asura have complex hairstyles, I would say it’s valued.
As to the OP’s question, I’ve never seen an Asura with very long hair but I suspect it’s more of a game’s stylistic decision rather than lore.

Fashion changes. Long hair might come in fashion someday. I mean, look at the amount of crazy hairstyles and neon colors nowadays. No asura would have considered those fashionable a few years back.
On a serious note, pretty sure they’ll add long hairstyles in the future. Most of the astetic race design has been watered down by now. This is just as true about charr as it is about asura. Crazy hairstyles and colors do sell well after all.
I wouldn’t mind some long haired options for all races – Norn are the only race with such options, I think.
EDIT: Super Saiyan 3 Charr? PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY, ANET!
Excelsior.
They sometimes have longer hair (the females), just put together in buns (Agenz Zrii’s hairstyle for example). If she would open it, it would probably be richer, but not too long.
It should also be mentioned that Asura are attracted to each other by the size of the ears. Having long hair could prevent this kind of beauty by covering it, basically like women that just wear jeans and turtleneck collars all day long. No attractive décolleté? No skirts? That would be boring and unattractive to humans. Ears being hidden in long hair…? The same for asura.
Also, when you have huge, floppy ears, I am not sure if I’d like to have long hair as well because you’d have to keep them behind them [ears] all time, and that would probably look very stupid.
My male Asura has regular, rich hair, not too long, not an afro, not bald either. Fits pretty well with my pointy and huge ears.
EDIT: So, it might be an Asura thing, but from what I have seen in my close-up frame-by-frame video checks of the game’s animations, flaring clothes are rendered … visually “sub-optimal”. It might be an engine problem (that could maybe fixed) with widely swinging hair while doing acrobatic stunts.
and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)

What? Moles. Voles. Gophers. Prairie Dogs. Woodchucks. Asura are not lizards or bugs, they are mammals as stated by a developer, and nearly all subterranean mammals have hair.
Longer hairstyles would be welcome but I’d imagine it’s due to their small stature regarding potential clipping; running animations etc.
Because their scrawny, oh so wringable, little necks couldnt support the weight?
They don’t have hair for the same reason I don’t. Our brains are so big that they push all the hair out by the roots.
No idea, but I’m dying for longer hairstyles for my small army of asura.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
Prob already said but i believe its because asura would step on them and fall on the ground but kitten it gimme muh fabio hair #hairylivesmatter
There is at least one shoulder lengthish hair piece that literally flows after you when running (it look a little gravity defying).
Because getting your hair stuck in the sprockets of an experimental golem needs to happen only once before you realize long hair in the workplace is a bad idea. :|

This.
Kind of like the reason for no capes in The Incredibles.
Not tangling hair is what quantum anti-entanglement technology is for!
Anyway, this is the particular hair style I was talking about. Goes to mid back maybe when running (shoulder length standing still).
They’re too short to have long hair. They’d start tripping long before any other race.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I would like long hair on Asura but only if this long, flowing, luxurious set of locks is an option.

That’s what Asura need…the It factor.

Asura don’t just live slightly underground like all the mammals you quoted though. They lived DEEEEEEP underground. Like, so far underground that entire generations of Asura never saw the sun. In evolutionary terms, that’s like comparing a fish that lives in a river to one that’s lived in deep underwater caves that’s completely lost its eyes because it had no need for them.

Honest question as I am not that familiar with Asuran lore, did they live that far underground for long enough for expectations to be expressed in evolutionary terms?
Also, not needing a physical trait does not automatically mean that evolution will get rid of it. If it is not an impediment to survival then natural selection will not necessarily eliminate the trait.

IIRC Asura evolved on the surface and were forced underground (only to later be forced back to the surface) – where they got plenty of sunlight anyway because they ran some sort of special cables to their cities from the surface that transferred sunlight to where they were living, if you remember Rata Novus.

Loss of a feature typically takes thousands of years to hundreds of thousands of years and there needs to be evolutionary pressure to lose it, or no pressure to keep it. I doubt that length of time was met, or the pressure to lose it. Since Asura have elaborate hairstyles that says they value hair and find it sexy (even if they don’t say it out loud).
