Why gw2 needs a group finder now.
On the contrary, because there was no LFG tool I have seen people openly admit they’ve never done the content before without having fear of being kicked.
On top of that, I also have cross server friends and people in the guild that I continually do endgame content with. If there was a LFG tool, I’d feel quite alone because anyone could simply “queue” in town all day and progress further and leave others behind.
But I just made 3 friends from different servers! I was looking for a group for anything, just bored and its offpeak time in EU, so I had a browse of gw2lfg. Met up with a group looking initially to do fractals, but when none of us could get into overflow we went and did 3 different exp runs in 3 different dungeons. Each one a new experience for some of us and a great laugh at the same time.
So to say a LFG tool only equals non-communication in the community/groups and people being scared to do content for fear of being kicked (and honestly I’ve never been kicked for telling a group I’ve not done the content before, quite the opposite) is focusing purely on the worst case scenario. Also an LFG tool doesn’t stop you from group with people you already know and come the next patch fractals will be open to all lvls, so no being left behind.
Fact of the matter is, wether Anet wants it or not, the LFG tool exists now and unless they want to fracture their community between newcomers and people in-the-know then they should implement their own system.
That or officially endorse the gw2lfg site, point newcomers to it and give the guy some cash. I’d be happy with that too.
The fractals have made me long for a “dungeon finder” tool. Finding groups for specific fractal levels is a massive pain right now. Gw2lfg is a great tool, but it’s a poor substitute for something “real” and "official.’
The changes they announced for fractals don’t help this problem. If I want a level 22 fractal run, and I want to go through each one, one at a time, and all that’s available is a level 30, that doesn’t help me if I really do want to step through them one at a time for the “experience’s” sake.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. One could argue that the implementation of these portal tools in WoW helped kill off that community. Before LFG it was much more common to know other players on your realm, friend list good players you have met, fully embrace your guild, and become a part of community websites.
If I had to choose between the fully automated system of WoW and the more community-fostering system of GW2, I would choose the latter every time.

I don’t find that it fosters community though. I meet players in pugs from all over different realms….we run a dungeon or fractal….we never see each other again.

I’ve had the opposite experience. I started running dungeons with a guild mate late at night. We started as two. As we met and friend-listed good players, our team grew into what it is today. We no longer look for random people in LA unless we don’t have enough members of our team online, in which case that next random person might be a future member waiting to happen.
That’s the way I see it anyways. I’m just one dude though.

“Why gw2 needs a group finder now.” ?
Because we shouldn’t be forced to use a independent website like GW2LFG.com, to find a party to do any kind of content in the game, and to be able to cross-server grouping!

Except that you are not forced to use GW2LFG. It is a supplement to the in-game community. I honestly have not used it once and have no trouble playing the game every night. It is up to the player to step out of the single-player element of the game and meet new people. Exactly the same as real life.

Actually, you have a very simplistic and wrong view of the matter.
1. I’m not 15 anymore, i don’t have time to play all day and make friends, i get online i play with random people, because my friends quitted this terribad game, i’m from the working class, i have to cook, clean and find time to play.
2. A LFG tool is needed, because that’s where the mentality of players have shifted, it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right, that’s what players want, and if a game is not made how the players want, then it’s doomed to die, less and less people play this game.
3. A LFG tool could be avoided, IF, ANET didn’t decide to make guilds the most useless feature i ever ever seen in any MMO, players hop guilds too fast to build a strong community. In GW1 you had vanquishing guilds, mission guilds, pvp guilds, dungeon guilds, and title hunting guilds, in GW2 well you have nothing.

You should see how hard it is to find some groups in the lower servers (server with low population / tier), to make that assumptions. Some players wait hours to find a group for some content …

If you are not fifteen anymore, try not to be needlessly antagonistic in your responses. Messages are better heard with reason.
On topic, I agree with certain things you have mention, specifically that a large portion of the player base is used to having queue portals and has become reliant on them. I’ll restate my opinion though, that I believe they have a detrimental effect on MMOs.
The way I view MMOs is that they should require time to play, whether that time is spent in large amounts over a short time, or small amounts over a large time. Becoming a part of an MMO’s community should be vital to player success. Perhaps I have a dated opinion.

OEM gw2lfg.com into GW2! No, seriously, do it!
Seriously, that site works like a charm and Anet don’t need to invent a different wheel, just let us do this from within the game.

I apologize, I overlooked your post. Queue tools, to me, are a band-aid used to artificially create a pool of players to group with. A better option is the “Underflow” idea that is often seen thrown around on the forums. It would fill underpopulated game worlds without automating the process.

I Agree. There a few reasons to stick with low populated servers. A underflow would help in that matter. But i believe LFG do too.
