Why have a 'General Discussion' forum?
its hard to remember we’re alive for the last time
For one simple reason: no matter how messy these forums get (which is pretty messy), gaming companies like Anet rely on customer feedback to provide a gaming experience that people are willing to pay for. They use this a a source for feedback on the game and id even go out on a limb in saying that the forums are the number one source for this feedback. So in short, the success of the game depends on it.
Do you really think not having this section would stop people from voicing their concerns? They would just spread it all over the place.
They did’ent always have forums:
<Edit> NSFW warning btw !!!

A forum is a good medium for communication and can help foster a strong sense of community. There are always positives and negatives in everything, but I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages Anet can reap with having an official general discussion forum in the long run.
Anet having its own forum allows them to have a measure of control over its content, and helps them be able to respond to players in a timely manner. Players are free to post on other forums such Guru of course, but many players feel the official forums are the place to go if you want your opinion to be recognized. It’s the same reason why they have an official wiki. It helps centralize community feedback and knowledge.
I dont see the point for GW2…the moderators just infract and delete
ANYTHING they dont like. They just deleted and infracted a guy for warning players that accounts are getting hacked….again….
That’s not true at all. People here have a huge problem of making 35 threats about one topic and being rude and non constructive. If you’ve had a problem with this have a read over the rules of the forums. It is very clear what is and is not proper conduct.
And even with the mass amount of threats they do lock and delete this forum is a cluster kitten, imagine how it would be if they eased up on moderating even more? Oh god.

Good thing they took in our feedback & added Ascended Gears.
I’m not sure of that was sarcasm but a ton of people asked or some sort of tiered progression. Besides that, ascended stuff if HARDLY better than exotics so…

When I played wow, I sometimes went on Blizzard’s forms and they were a cesspool. I would actually feel dirty after reading some of the things that people posted. It was a place of free thought though and I respected Blizzard for not censoring people’s criticism of their games. I honestly think that their forums played a part in their success because there was a connection there. To me constructive criticism is a subjective/relative term and companies should be strong enough to hear any criticism, constructive or not, that a customer has even if it’s crap which most of it probably is.
