Good day everyone, hope you’ve had a fun Halloween.

I’m very curious why the word “Sega” is censored in the game. For amusement I run the game with “Maximum” setting enabled. Things like “Kes—-” pop up instead of Kessex and other pointless things. Anyways, today I stumbled upon the inability to send the word Sega out; just because I compared the long load times to the Sega CD.

One of those strange, odd things in life.

“I’m doing good in the game, so I’m doing good in life!”

It means something naughty in Italian slang according to urban dictionary.

If something random gets blocked like that, it’s probably a slang word for something inappropriate in another language

Chocodile – Asuran Engineer
Chocodial – Asuran Thief

You can’t disable it on the forums, just ingame.

This is true, however there are many other words censored for (presumably) similar reasons here on the forums.

Example?

I’ve not seen words that I use which also have a slang meaning in other languages being censored here, do you know of any?

I cannot remember any off the top of my head, but I have seen several examples.

I do remember at least one other thread like this, but about a different word.

Heh, relax a bit guys. There was another word that was censored in the English version which was a bad word in another language, and they fixed it. Just report it – it is a bug – and move along.

The tendency of filtering every word possibly offensive in any language is really silly. If you keep looking, nearly every word will carry some sexual or whatever connotation in some language. Keep the filters language specific, e.g. english server → english filters. And stop kittening words that have some obscure connation in english either, that language is so colourful and creative, almost every word has at some point been used to denote something sexual. I mean, even the standard MMO lingo word for a bad build is kittened, why, because of that leatherdude in Pulp Fiction?

Generally I think it’s extremely lame when things which
are a PART OF THE GAME ITSELF like Kessex Hills as the OP
mentioned, gets censored.

I would say its more likely censored because “sega” is a registered trademark elsewhere.

I mean, even the standard MMO lingo word for a bad build is kittened, why, because of that leatherdude in Pulp Fiction?

That word is used to refer to bad builds in a derogatory manner because it is a bad word: offensive , slang ( US ), ( Canadian ) a physically disabled person, esp one who is lame

Pulp Fiction is irrelevant. I hope you don’t look to pop culture to learn the definition of words, or you’d think “twilight” is defined as “poorly written drivel”.

what’s funny is when you can’t say in game names because they are censored. ex: molotov kittentail.

Bad joke: There’s some bad blood between the Risen and Sonic. The Risen move faster than the super sonic hedgehog and jealousy came about. Now, the word Sega is banned so as not to bring up bad feelings. :P

I’ve always thought language filters in MMOs were overly strict, it’s why I turn them off when I can so I’m not bothered by them… Cucumber is blocked by a lot of these “smart” chat filters because it contains a certain term.

One of the reasons I’m more active here and not in the German forums, although German is my native language, is that they seem to be using the English wordlist also on German text. And a lot of censored words appear just as parts of German words, which makes texts really hard to read since they also didn’t just replace them with stars but the word “Liebsche”, which isn’t even a well known German word but a regional idiom.
For example, the German word “k u n terbunt” (motley) is censored and then reads “Liebscheerbunt” which doesn’t make any sense at all.

There was that one word that was censored on the forums that was apparently a bad word in french or something stupid like that.

It is a bit ridiculous.

Another example I’ve seen is this : “woulkittenep” which is “would I ceep” with a K.

^ Because it spelled a homosexual insult across 3 words lol.

Hi everyone,

Word filter can create some really funny situations as we have all seen. But its a needed tool. As this thread doesnt really add to the forum or help other players – even tho it has provided some funny moments – we are closing for the sake of forum cleanness.

Thanks for your understanding
