I posted my Fears about the amount of botting going on in the game yesterday and log on to the forum today to find my thread closed. Not only was my thread closed but every other thread concerning botting and/or goldsellers has been closed. Are we not allowed to have some constructive criticism. I suspect that this thread won’t make it to the end of the day.

Probably because suspected botting is supposed to be reported so that devs can investigate it? not so people on the forums can discuss it.

This will probably get closed as well but the most logical answer is that people seeing and actively discussing about botting will more likely get them involved in it. By closing the discussion off and not letting them happen shows that they don’t take it lightly.

And I support that 100%!

Not really… If you openly let people discuss botting then it’ll give a fair few people the impression AN okay with it, and those people will have a reason to think like that

There’s no middle ground in situations like this. If you’re not going to allow botting, then you make sure it’s nowhere to be found on your own site.

So you are saying its there just don’t talk about it? If we do not talk about it how are the devs supposed to know how it effects our game. Seriousley its no fun when you go and try to kill this champion and when you get there there are botters everywhere. walk down the side tunnel and there are botters there. A botter here, A botter there, botters seem to be everywhere.

Then you report them, using the report function. That’s what it’s there for, after all, and despite what people may think, there will be a heavy team behind keeping the game clear of such players. They announced a little while ago that they had banned a large number of bots, due to peoples reports.

If you see a bot you report it, if the botter is still there after a few days report it again and/or ask for an update.

Wortermelon – what you are talking about is called denial of free speech, you know that, right? Following the same logic – no one should ever discuss any negative topics (such as murder), since someone might decide to go out and start killing people. Lets not talk about anything other than candy and rainbows!

On the other hand – us discussing botting here won’t really change anything. There is already a ‘report’ button on your Mail tab, use that instead. Though I am frustrated with the fact that I get a ton of mail daily and it’s ALL spam with gold sells. That really sucks, I always hope it’s a lost friend from the past or smth.

Wrong, actually. I’m pretty sure their terms and conditions forbids the talking of third party software to manipulate the game. Since we all agreed to that (or you wouldn’t be posting here) you’re not allowed to talk about it.

I have reported them everday for the past week. Logging on right now to go and report them again. Will do the same thing when I get home from work.
But it has gotten to the point that players are exploiting these bots. Hey there are some bots we can stay here and farm. get into some trouble its ok just run to the bots. They will protect you!

There is no such thing as free speech on a privately owned forum.

All MMO developers are inherently OK with some botting in their games. In small amounts it speeds up the economy in and around the game, people who’re used to buying gold won’t skip their game, and are more likely to purchase in the official shop, banning botters makes for good press releases, and the botters will just buy new copies of the game easily, which again means more money for the developers. Everyone’s happy. Right?

I think Wortermelon is actually making a good point. BFNK it’s illogical to compare the negativity involved with botting in a game to murder LOL. Some people may not know botting is possible, having discussions about it may only lead to more people considering botting. Reporting the issue quietly to the developers is what we should do. Arenanet already made an announcement that they deleted accounts for botting. I am sure they will make more announcements if it is necessary. But I agree the bots are annoying!

This, actually, sums up an answer to your quote better.

The agreement you signed and adhered to when joining the forums has a set of rules in, which opt you out of the whole ‘free speech’ thing. Not in any negative ways, but in ways that will allow AN’s forums to prosper.

We’re not talking about some serious IRL issue here, it’s not about freedom of speech or anything like that.

On most forums it’s against the forum ToS to post about exploits. You dont go on the forums and say “i think i found an exploit, you just do this and that and this happens…what do you guys think? is it an exploit?” I know we are talking about bots in this thread, and i used exploits as an example, but there’s not a lot of gray area with exploits which is why i am talking about it. You dont post procedures on how to do what may be a potential exploit for everyone to see. Best way to handle that is to open a petition, state your concerns with the possible exploit and let the devs handle it.

Community Coordinator

Hi everyone.

The whole team is fully aware of the problems that nowadays represent exploits, botting and gold-seller spamming to the community of players and their gaming experiences. We have read all the constructive critics so far, we keep them in mind, of course, and we are working to find a method and a solution for these problems.

We also have been stating that the best way to help us is to report immediately. Keep on doing this, please, any time you see something that does not seem in order. In the meantime we will keep on closing threads that notify an issue, we will thank you for that, but we will close them as we would like to keep the forums free from massive posts about exploits and spamming (having, as you have, other ways of helping us dealing with them).

I hope this explains the whole issue.
Thank you very much for your concerns.
(And yes, I will proceed now to lock the thread )
