Why is GW2 so Stingy with the Titles?
I don’t think more titles dilutes them at all. Everyone knows that an easy to get title is not an accomplishment, so no one is going to be in awe over someone that “didn’t deserve it” (e.g. the “of Sanctum” and “of Meridian” titles in Rift- most people didn’t bother to wear them, because everyone knew it wasn’t much of an accomplishment, and nobody mistook it for a title that took something to get).
Really, having a “hard to get” title just says that you either enjoy grinding, or you’ve simply played the game a LOT. Note: I have the combat healer title, and fall into the category of “played a LOT”. A title like that is just a matter of time.
I’ll also stick my vote in on how lame it was for the Orrian King to tell me I’ll carry the title “Champion of Orr”, and then A Net not make good on that promise. Maybe it’s something that got missed, but more likely, it’s just poor writing. If an important NPC tells you you’re getting a title, it’s kind of expected that you actually get one.
Finally, titles are really ALL pretty pointless until I’m able to see my own name.
Hmm, to me having titles for every little accomplishment diminishes the point of titles in the first place. Aren’t they supposed to be for finishing something that took a good amount of time and effort to get??
I think that’s really a matter of personal choice. Some people will want to wear titles that indicate that they accomplished something difficult. Others will want to wear titles that say something about their character (like that they really hate centaurs), or titles that they just think are fun. I’d definitely like to see title options added for more of the achievements. I’m really surprised that so few of the PvE achievements grant them.

Let me just note that I got the “Master Carver” title last night for carving 150 pumpkins. It was not difficult to get and I got it without trying to get it. If ANet’s philosophy, as implied from some other posters’ comments, is to make getting a title difficult and something worth being proud of, “Master Carver” seems to be antithetical to that philosophy.
I would enjoy having more titles, there should be a title for maxing out a achivment such as killing 1000 centuars or discovering all the places in a certain area such as Shiverpeak Explorer.
Also more emotes
I come at this from the point of view of an avid GW1 title hunter. I loved title hunting, that is what kept me hooked to GW1 for 7 years with max of 2 months off. I had 4 GWAMM characters and every single non-PvP title attainable, and every non-pvp statue in my HoM. But thing back to when GW1 titles were introduced. I think there were 5…Cartographer, Protector, Skill Hunter and I forget the others…
Anyway just enought to get “Kind of a Big Deal” (5 maxed). After all the expansions there were a total of 37 maxible titles for PvE alone.
I am not worried about number of titles at this point, I have a feeling that at some point in the future they will add more and/or do a major title update like they did in GW1 when they added GWAMM and many of the others.
Agree with the OP, I was thoroughly dissapointed to do the 500 costume brawler champions and not get a title from it, something like “Master Brawler” would have been nice.

Warhammer Online had great titles. Tons of them through a huge variety of tasks. And the “coolness” of a title didn’t really have anything to do with its rarity. I’d go out and collect the titles, just like anything else can be collected in an MMO.
If you’ve played Guild Wars 1 or you PvP, then you’ll have more titles than you’d ever want.
Choices are sorely lacking if you PvE, though.
From the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Titles
PvE Titles = 7*
PvP Titles = 20
WvW Titles = 16
HoM Titles = 11
*PvE = 8 if you include “Been there Done That” Explorer Title. 10 if you include the Halloween exclusive “Master Carver” and “Emissary of the Mad King” titles.
Shows where the priorities are, right?
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
City of Heroes had a “title” you could equip for every achievement, even easy ones like exploration. It was fun planning out your badge title as part of your character concept.

Yes, being able to roleplay with your title was great. An asura mesmer doesn’t have the same title needs as a charr warrior.
I quite like the titles as they are except for one thing. In the story mode you are awarded a “title” or rank. This should actually be a title you can use, in my opinion. The first time I was given the rank of warmaster I was keen to display it, only to be disappointed when it wasn’t really a title at all.
