So I finally made my way through Orr today to Cursed Shore for the first time.

Straits is full of failing events, swarmed with Risen mobs very tough to kill and champions impossible to kill.

Malchor’s is an eerie area devoid of players utterly full of dead Pact members, lost to the undead and Risen chickens.

Then you go to CS and it’s just FULL of people. Zergs farming champions, it was quite a cheery atmosphere deep in Orr compared to the depressing, deserted previous two areas.

How should ANet get people out of CS and back into the other areas of Orr where events simply aren’t being completed?

If the Straits of Devastation and Malchor’s Leap had level 80 mobs they would be popular (the Balthazar event chain is amazing I think), but since they don’t they’re relegated to “clear the temple every now and then”

Colesy is correct. The only reason to go to Stait’s/Malchor’s other than the odd temple run is to gather (Malchor’s) or get map completion (best done in a small group). Oddly, even Cursed Shore is not heavily populated on all servers.

They wouldn’t.

The reason why people go to Cursed Shores isn’t because it’s a place where to farm – it’s because it is the BEST place where to farm. If Straits of Devastation and Malchor’s Leap were level 80 areas, they would either:

A) Be more profitable than Cursed Shores, so people would go to the most profitable between the two and leave the rest of Orr alone; or…

B) Be less profitable than Cursed Shores, so people would never go there at all. See Southsun Cove.

OP, people are not doing events in Orr right now. They are failing one specific event in order to farm Champions there.

Why can’t they normalise loot depending on your current level and make the event chain simpler in Straits?

Since I’ve only just go to Orr, in the current state the game is in i doubt I’m ever going to do a full event chain in Straits or Malchor.

ANet had a vision in which players would play the event chains because they would be fun to do. This vision met the reality of, “I did that once, there’s no need to do it again.” and, “Loot is more important than just fun.” Unfortunately, redesigning entire zones worth of events to be solo/small group friendly when they were designed for larger numbers of players is a time consuming task, with no guarantee it would pay off.

It’s really odd, with so many ghost towns, you’d think this game was 5 or more years old. Not as young as it is.

Balthazar is the one event chain which you can’t just faceroll zerg and actually requires organisation.

For all that is good and holy ANet, do not simplify the event chains there.

Also, if loot was given equal to our level then you’d have more players going to areas because they like the area rather than just because there’s good loot which would be nice – you can go to an area you like and get good loot equal to your level.

Loot is given equal to your level. You can get level 70-80 gear drops anywhere. I think they need more area specific mats like Karka shells. Make every zone have at least one t6 mat or sonething that people want to farm. That system worked well in gw1. But of course they kind of screwed that by having material tiers…
