Why is T3 cultural armor not exotic quality?
Cultural armor is strictly for the skin
The look. /15chars
My fun laughs at your server pride.
Yes it’s just a skin. But imo seeing how expensive it is it should exotic. I mean, what it being exotic really change its prestige? Not in the least.
But I guess form a business stand point a player might have to go and buy 6 stones from the gem shop…so I guess there you have it.

Without a doubt.
The stat combinations are pretty questionable to begin with for most classes. At least Sylvari is like all condition damage.
I guess they looked at the fact that most people would rather transmute them on the stats they want then to actually bother making the stats appealing. Since they aren’t about the stats in the first place. Making it Exotic at that point I guess isn’t really worth the time.
If Tier 3 is just for the skin, well it should be a skin and not actually armour. Like the Dragon / Scleric / Molten weapons.
But as has been pointed out, they won’t do that because tiered gear is one of the primary things driving fine transmutation crystal sales in the Gem Store.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
This has always bugged me as well. IMO they just didn’t want to bother offering them with a variety of stats, so they just ensured you wouldn’t buy them for the stats. They should just be skins, but they want you to also buy Fine Transmutation Stones to use them.
My understanding is that Anet increased the price from around 8g for the set to 120g in order to give a high-level goal (less difficult than legendaries) for GW2 players to shoot for.
Originally, the set had been of the same price and quality as Order armor. However when the price was increased, the stats were not. I do not think Anet will fix the stats. Transmutation crystals are one of their biggest money makers. On a completely separate note, you used to receive transmutation crystals (not just stones) for completing high-level areas. This was changed to improve gem store proceeds.
The more you know, right?
they want you to buy and use transmutation crystals !!!

If they made it exotic, they’d have to offer every combination of stats. They chose not to.
I assume it also makes them money on selling transmutation crystals.

If you can afford 120g in game for an outfit you can afford 10g in game for the stones. They make nothing from gold to gem in game.
It’s to double up the rareness factor. Getting it for the looks is 1 thing. Getting it for emperor is another thing. Having this set as Exotic is the kicker, and therefor many people won’t get it.
It’s good design of tiered cosmetics.

Somebody bought the gems to exchange for gold.

Yes, it is a business. It does not mean you have to, though it would be nice for the game to continue if you did.
Cultural armors were released before the first objects of type “skin” were released. I’m sure that if it were developed now, it would be a skin, not an actual armor.
For the price of Tier 3 cultural armor, you would think that you would get an exotic set. For the same price, you would be able to outfit your character completely in a set of exotic armor and trinkets from the trading post, and with the amount of time it takes to make enough money for the full cultural set you could easily get an exotic dungeon set (or multiple, in some cases). So why is it that T3 armours are only of rare quality?
Because you have to buy Trasmutation Crystals.
I used to complain about this too, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense. It’s comparable to the Order armor, just priced much higher to be more prestigious as skins go.
What I feel like they should do is add a system that lets you increase the rarity on armor pieces. I don’t really care what it is or what kind of currency it involves, but it should be an option to buy rare armor and improve it to exotic in some way without having to transmute it over something else.
I think it is a prestige thing. If you can afford it you have some bragging rights. Even if it was blue level and cost that much. You are working toward getting the skin, not the stats.
I understand it can be a prestigious thing, for bragging rights or whatever. I just think its way over priced. 119g is way more than I, and possibly many other players, have ever had. I do like the T3 armors on certain characters a lot, and would love to get them, but I don’t have that kind of coin!
Especially when Order armor is priced at, just below, 9g.
With 119g, I could gear up several characters in exotic gear from the trading post. -_-;;
