Maps really shouldn’t close when Metas are active and at least 15 minutes after.

Other than that, Maps close to optimize server usage. The system checks and shuts down an hour after, in that time the map can easily refill with a meta being done or a guild event or whatever.

I personally think it’s very invasive when a map decides to close and dump you into the “fuller” map. I don’t always like to run around in the hugest zergs and with the biggest amount of people.

If you join a map that is already scheduled to close, you won’t see the volunteering notification. In its last few minutes, you should however notice a periodic warning in chat. If that warning never appeared, there’s probably a bug, otherwise, stop taxiing into closing maps. The system doesn’t care if you flood into a map, as the main map has already been decided.

Happens to me every other time I’m in a squad during the DS meta. Then upon seeing a 50/50 full map —> “Map is empty, receive a volunteer boon to transfer to a more populated map.” But only dumps me to an even less populated map.

Then I Look at squad map again… 50/50. This really needs to be fixed asap.

Yes I’m a vet, yes I’m salty. Problem?

Get to DS early. Join a squad of peoiple waiting to go to a new map. Go to the new map. Get the maximum time limit and never have to deal with that again. Profit.

Anet actually gets round to fixing the megaserver problem that they have been aware of since before HOT launched and affects all HOT maps – Player can play the game as designed and not have to waste time map hopping to find a playable map. Even more profit

The reason is simple, virtualisation and resource utilization.
Each map is a instance that runs on hardware, having multiple maps open with few players requires more resources and throwing them all in one map. Also it gets more players on a map, potentially playing together. Oh and possibly load balancing.

To save money, if you have your players spread out on your expensive hardware it’s best to have them on one hardware.

How is your post helping? Who benefits from it?

Do I want the mega server fixed? Of course I do. It may not be an easy fix. It may be they’re working on it and it’s taking time.

In the mean time people never have to go through the annoyance of this happening and I’ve proposed a solution that actually works, because I’ve done it time and time again.

Just trying to be helpful.

Eh.. the timed meta structure of the maps means taxiing will always be a thing, and Dragon’s Stand is more like a massive multiplayer dungeon more than a proper explorable map.
