Why is there no Body blocking?
Make it the same as Guild Wars 1. Monsters can block you. You can block enemy players, but you can walk through friendly characters.
Now it cannot be abused. Only used tactically.
Guild Wars 2 has lost nearly all tactical elements.
I think it has to do with server side stuffz.
You can body block your target. Just target a monster out in PvE and try to walk through them.
I would love to see body collision but I suspect if it’s not in now, it never will be. It’s a pretty big change to make after launch.
Not that bigger changes haven’t been made in other games, but yeah.

That’s actually a setting in your options. It’s like a melee assist or something. I don’t think it has any affect on them, it just prevents you from moving through them. Even then it’s kind of wonky. I turned it off.

Body blocking requires the server to look for collisions between every moving object in a given map, every split second. It is unfeasible to implement it on a map that might have hundreds of players at any time. It can be optimized but no kind of optimization will make it feasible.

They have collision detection in TERA but that’s because it’s a non targeting game so collision detection is essential to the way combat works. They even turn it on in their version of DE’s and it’s a pain – tons of players clustered in one area of a zone. Forget about trying to hit the mobs/boss, even getting close to it is hard.
I do think it’s an interesting idea and I like it outside of large events, but I’m not sure it really works with GW2’s hybrid combat and like another poster said, it would take a long time to implement so at this point I don’t think we’ll see it. Although imagine the cool things we could do if we did have it, like you could stand behind a Charr Guardian in WvW for safety lol. Who needs toughness or vitality when I can just have a Guardian take arrows for me!

The gw2 collision detection is as complicated as TERA, targetting or not. That’s why melee cleaves in an arc and how ranger piercing shots work. You don’t need to target anything in gw2 (except for select skills).
That’s also why you can stand behind slow people on bosses so they soak the damage… meat shields are awesome.

And how does that make it tactical? It just puts you at a disadvantage. And it messes with your mobility. xD

Exactly. Collision system is already around. They just need to make it like it was in Guild Wars 1. It is not some crazy feat. They just got lazy, or for whatever reason didn’t like the idea.
