Just something I notice often but never really gave it much thought-

Why do players post links to weapons or armor (presumably items they own) on general chat without any words or explanation? Is the intent to advertise a for-sale item?

Thanks!

Usually it’s so someone else can see which armour it is, in terms of skins, so that they can go get it for themselves, or it’s just to show someone the runes and stat’s they use in their build. It isn’t uncommon for someone to respond in /map to something that has been said in /say, so you’re only getting half the conversation.

Not sure where you are seeing this, but sometimes people show what they got from drops, sometimes it’s accidents when moving items, sometimes posting in wrong chat, etc.

normally after a world event some people link their drops to show off and some make fun out of those linking their items by linking junk items :P

Since all the codes are published, half the time I think someone lists an exotic armor or precursor when an event is over just to stir the pot and drive people to magic find/RNG threads.

Im assuming they are rare or exotic items. I think you see them because they got it from a World Boss Event. Most people feel the need to link their rare they got. But this depends on where you are when you see it though.

Basically all of the above.

Some people are showing off to the map in general, or celebrating that they got a drop they wanted. Some people are showing off their entire set-up.
Others are showing a friend their gear or meant to post it in guild/party chat and got the wrong one.
Some people (like me) are trying to split a stack of items and hit crtl instead of alt, or just meant to click/click and drag and forgot they were holding down ctrl to see who’s around.
Sometimes it’s people using a site like Argos soft to find gear and putting the codes in chat so they can get them in the preview window.

Sometimes you can guess from the context. For example if a boss event has just finished and someone’s pinging a rare it’s probably because it just dropped. If they’re pinging an entire armor set they’re probably showing it to a friend or meant to show it to their party.

Uh. That is not why I sometimes link to my ‘trash’. It is not to make fun of the others, but to make fun of my lousy luck.
