As title says, why oh why?
It goes against the game’s “free style” selling point. The locking of this Mastery line forces players into roles and into game modes that they do not like or wanna play. Remember how they did that mistake once before? In vanilla you needed to play WvW to get Full map completion, they realized that they did it all wrong and removed that restriction. Its time for them to unlock the Forsaken Thicket Mastery line for those people who dont wanna raid (most of the player base) and stop forcing people to do raids. Just put an NPC outside which you can talk to and get the Mastery line unlocked.

I don’t believe that is the reason WvW was removed from Map Completion. It had more to do with new maps.

Regardless, perhaps, some day, they will separate Raid Mastery from the ‘all HoT Mastery tracks’ requirement…or something similar.

Good luck.

I agree. I suppose they want people to show that they’ve managed to achieve mastery over all PvE play modes in order to sport full mastery levels, but they already get rewarded very well for raiding, I don’t understand why they don’t allow us to fill out that mastery track now. They didn’t have the same restriction for fractals mastery line.

What do you need the mastery for if you don’t want to raid?

It’s is the only thing preventing me from reach the Mastery cap. When you reach the cap you get Spirit Shards for the XP-Level you gain. If you are not mastery capped you get nothing. So basiclly, right now no matter what i do besides Raid gives me 0 XP.

Many people want the max masteries next to their name. The same reason some of us attempt to get achievement points. Your question is a bit like "Why would you want fractal masteries unless you ran fractals, or “why would you fill out your legendary masteries unless you wanted to make a legendary”…. because they’re there.

Not only that, but also want their earned experience to mean something, such as spirit shard rewards, rather than just having it all go to waste.

Didn’t know about the spirit shard thing, I agree that’s dumb.

It could be worse, honestly. I would have more gripe with it if you couldn’t unlock it with Escort. As far as difficulty is concerned, that’s on par with a dungeon route and plays out a lot like one.

The joke is that all you need to do is to go do Escort once, because this is failsafe “boss” encounter and you have your masteries done and dandy, provided you will have enough mastery points that is… I think that Raids give so much of them that without it you cannot progress far…
