Why no Australian servers.
Probably not economical to have them.
Come play on the unofficial aussie/nz/south east asia server Sea of Sorrows. Plenty of people on during our prime time
just turn your monitor upside down!
on a serious note, are there a lot of aussie players? maybe it would be worth while.. if aussie players were polled
I’m afraid it’s a place where the wvw subsection of the game impacts the other aspects.
While there could be a couple servers based in GMT +10 or thereabouts, how would you manage their battlegroups?
I play on the american server called “Northern Shiverpeaks” and most of the time when i play there is not alot of others doing events and dungeons.
I feel your pain, I too am on Northern Shiverpeak (the Angry Army’s server) and unfortunately there is barely a soul during our peak time…
Would be nice to have some server close to my time zone. I’m on a german server, but as I live in Japan, I’m 8 hours ahead. Finding a group for FotM or any dungeon is a challenge every single time… ^^

NSP has a very low Australia/Asia population compared to some of the other servers out there (I was on that server). If you want to know servers with a larger presence in these times, a quick way to find them is to just look at any of the servers within the first 3 tiers for WvW servers. 24/7 coverage is a must to maintain a high ranking. Obviously some of these servers will be tough to transfer to due to full populations.
Sea of Sorrows is the unofficial oceanic server. We are moving to Australia next year (my husband is an Aussie) so we chose Sea of Sorrows so when we move, we will have people to play with during Australian primetime and for now, we benefit from North American primetime. There are usually people around no matter what time of day we are on.
Just because they’re NA servers doesn’t mean the server time is set primarily to the NA timezones. Yak’s Bend is actually set to AUS time (east coast of AUS I believe, not the west coast). Not sure if we have a “full status” or how active everyone is (I’m a yank, so I’m generally asleep when the aussies get on), but if you’re not happy with your server, you can give YB a whirl.
the numbers speak for themselves:
population of the americas : 910,720,588 (2008)
population of europe : 739,165,030 (2011)
population of oceania: 378,000,000 (2010)
Some of the largest guilds on Isle of Janthir where I play are australian ones. I also often see people chatting in Korean or Japanese… though I have had no luck getting IME to work in GW for me so I stick to english/romaji
You could look into SoR, while we don’t have the largest Aussie/NZ population, but it is growing, and you should notice it. Also, many of our NA players don’t seem to sleep, and we do have LUN guild which seems to play at odd hours aswell.

Um, Australia, and NZ can play not just with Oceania, but with East and Southeast Asia.
Population of East Asia + Southeast Asia alone : 1.6 billion people.
Do you want to include India? 2.9 billion people.
