Why no Slayer achievements for HoT mobs?
Hmm, good point. If they put in a Slayer achievement for HoT enemies, then it may help with encouraging people to kill them who would otherwise try to run past due to being too frustrating.

Technically, mordrem would fall under the plant slayer, as would the shrooms. Chak likely fall under insect slayer, with bristlebacks falling under…. shell slayer maybe? Granted, that would require anet actually setting flags n stuff so that they are counted towards em.
Risen/Zhaitan’s Bane is a bit of an anomaly. None of the other ‘corrupted’ dragon minions (ie not including Svanir) have slayer achievements either – no destroyer, branded or icebrood.
Come to think of it, I don’t think any slayer achievements were added post launch – Karka didn’t get one either. Could be one of those things they overlook during design. I remember reading how they stopped giving out new titles for a while because it never came up as a consideration – could be the same situation.

More likely the sheer numbers killed as we do the map events. DS and VB are a LOT of mordrem kills, with the pre-events for AB the same. TD is a lot of chak and misc kills too.

Have they added a ‘slayer’ achievement since launch?
I think adding a couple to the game would help increase the number of players in the zone… even if it is for a little while.
We have Risen Slayer so why not Mordrem Slayer?
Plenty of Dinosaurs/bristlebacks so maybe a Saurian Slayer
Wyvern Slayer?
Feline Slayer?

They should but they don’t. Way back when I first entered HoT maps I thought the mordrem would count towards the plant slayer achievement and then found out they don’t. Still not entirely sure what does count for that achievement though………

I think that the other dragon minions don’t have achievements because they still count for the regular slayer achievements. What I mean is that I’m pretty sure a branded Minotaur still counts for the minotaur achievement. And Svanir Sons and Risen were the only 2 dragon minions that dind’t fall into another slayer category at launch, which is why I think we should also have a Mordrem slayer achievement.
I hope that Anet plans on implementing slayer achievements for HoT mobs and possibly Karkas (forgot about those in the original post) because I rather enjoy seeing those achievements pop up. Its a nice measure of just how much grind I have done in a zone lol
they havent really supported that category at all since the game launched, the few new slayer achievements that did get added got so under different categories. would be nice if this was tidied up

The Sons of Svanir are not dragon minions. They worship Jormag, but are not (yet) corrupted by him. Icebrood, now those are dragon minions. The Svanir are cultists, so to speak, and equal to Nightmare Court, Flame Legion, etc.
Slayer achievements hand out too much AP for normal game play… or at least that’s a trend I’ve noticed since release.
When GW2 released, AP was given out like candy (literally if I remember one of the LS season 1 updates that I missed but heard about), then things shifted with them removing champ bags and loot from LS mobs because people would farm them after getting the achievements done in the first week (now they just don’t bother with the content in the second week). With the removal of loot came the removal of, in my opinion, the easier AP tasks. I also think this was the beginning of the game shifting away from casual focus to where it is now, hopefully it returns for a time before shifting back again.
The coins and such in Dry Top and Silverwaste are easy but do not come from regular game play (such as killing mobs), and pay out AP poorly. All of season 2 pays out poorly. I may be remembering incorrectly, but each update I could usually get a significant amount (one quarter to a half) of an AP chest out of doing the achievements. Now that seems closer to one tenth of an AP chest.
I agree though, that slayer achievements need to be updated to include a lot of the new groups added (scarlet minions should be added-which might make the toxic stalk events around Kryta played to be completed for a time, Zhaitan should not be the only one with an achievement, etc…).
Comparing S1 to S2 kinda shows this. S1 AP: 2047 (from the releases I remember that were story specific, not from holiday’s/regular festivals) S2 AP: 548 (Silverwaste and Dry Top bump this up to 891, which still isn’t even half of S1 and that is probably missing some releases too)
Yeah… no wonder it seems like my AP has been growing at snails pace since I missed a lot of S1 for various reasons. One reason for this is S1 seemed to have a lot more updates (temporary), and the S2 achievements were locked behind rerunning the story ON THE SAME CHARACTER which I haven’t bothered doing yet. This also enforces my theory that AP is going away from normal game play, because why reward someone for just running through a S2 story when you can make them go through it again on the same character to get them?
Even ignoring the fact that S1 seemed to have WAY more updates, in general they had more AP per update too. S1 consistently had 100+ (some even 200+) AP per update, only one of S2 had over 100, over half were 75 or less.

Technically, mordren SHOULD fall under plants. It’s really absurd that they don’t.
Anet always starts a lot of different ideas then abandons them quickly after. This is one of them.

I agree. Looking at the historical Achievements on GW2efficiency, the older ones associated with LWS1 releases gave out huge amounts of AP. And the newer ones give out negligible amounts.
I get it Anet, you wanted to slow down the older players from reaching 40K+ AP which would make you feel like you had to add new rewards to those higher levels of AP other than just the pinnacle skins. But for newer players this is quite annoying. At the pace of AP that I can gain from these achievements, it will take me until 2020 to start earning my pinnacle skins and I don’t think that is fair at all. I’m still a paying player after all. I actually counted it all up, without the daily AP, I am capped at about 13k AP assuming I complete all of the other achievements that are current;y available to me (all of them, all of the path of ascension achievements, all of the WvW achievements with their huge numbers, all of the wardrobe and collection achievements. All of them.) Which isn’t even enough to get half of the Zenith skins.
Mini rant aside I just don’t understand why we don’t have new Slayer achievements, or for that matter any new achievements in the general tab for HoT. Yes we have the HoT achievements tab, but none of them are similar to the general achievements in Central Tyria yet there are so many things in HoT that could be an achievement

The really crappy part is that the reason I didn’t get the really big APs from LS1 is because the game crashed 4 days from the end, and erased all my progress in the tower. It had taken weeks to get to where I thought I was in shooting distance, and then … gone in the blink of an eye.
USUALLY when something like that has happened in the past, they extended the time limit. But, not this time. We were just screwed, those of us who were close to completing things before the crash.

Mordrem are not plants; they are their own species. Same with the mushrooms and chak.
Bristlebacks would be some sort of Saurian slayer alongside Stoneheads, Smokescales, Bonebreakers, Rolling Devils, Arrowheads, and Pocket Raptors.

I think this was done with the intention of adding such when they worked on those dragons.

There was a monthly Karka Slayer achievement when The Lost Shores was added, IIRC (or was it during the return to Southsun arc?)

Wyvern Slayer – the new Plant Slayer, where they’re so kitten rare you’ll be lucky to get it in a year if farming directly. But at least it wouldn’t be the new Giant Slayer!
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
One of the reasons why there is no slayer achievements is because incrementing the slayer achievements require kill credit. The VAST majority of HoT mobs give no kill credit. Kill credit mobs give out XP, Loot, and increment stacking sigils as well as increment slayer achievements. XP and loot was moved to events in HoT and disabled for most individual mobs.
It may not be the main reason, but it will never happen because it would require a complete overhaul of the reward structure of HoT.

Strangely enough, ranger spirits count towards plant slayer. Even your own. Unless of course Anet fixed after I last noticed.

While mordrem should fall under plant slayer it doesn’t seem to. I’m still fairly low on plant slayer and I know I’ve killed my share of mordrem.
Looking at my slayer list I’ve got a lot complete but I still have some killing to do. I wish there was a title and mastery point with it because that takes awhile and if anything says mastering it’s completing the slayer achievement.

Hmm that’s interesting to know. I never noticed until you pointed it out. I still feel though that ANet should put in the effort to add in the achievements that HoT should have got (like the slayer achievements), even if they do keep most of the mobs without loot
