Why no dungeon tokens for laurels?

why play 99% solo?
why don you try some dungeons?

Good luck finding a group to do CoF story mode in order to unlock explorable mode. Currently gw2lfg has 45 groups for exp mode, and 3 for story. Oh, except 2 of those 3 story modes are actually for exp mode, if you read the comment, they’ve just been entered by someone too stupid to pick the right option from the dropdown.

You only need one player in the group who has completed story mode before, not all have to.
Bullkitten. Yesterday I made lfg “LF3M” for story mode. The group was ready 3 minutes later.
Try a dungeon, you may like it.

and i fail to see the problem, that means at least 47 people have the ability to unlock the explore mode FOR you. its funny you calling people stupid when you haven’t realized that only ONE person needs to have completed the story.

Because I don’t like to play on teams, as a rule.
I’m not saying that playing on a team is bad. I’m just saying it’s not something I usually enjoy, just as some people don’t enjoy chocolate cake or classical music. I could try to explain it, but in the end it comes down to “I don’t like it.”
I know I’m not the only one that feels this way, and I’m sure there’s a few out there that may like to team, but want to avoid certain dungeons due to personal dislike.
Being able to spend laurels for dungeon tokens seems like a very obvious thing to me, especially given the “play it your way” ideas behind this game.

If you don’t want to do dungeons, you don’t get dungeon skins.
The ’play it your way’ argument does not apply here.

If you wish to obtain a Legendary without doing dungeons, you can buy one on the trading post.
All you miss by passing on dungeons are the skins. The exclusivity of certain skins versus other skins is what makes them interesting in the first place. Making everything obtainable via Laurels would be the same as removing horizontal progression from the game, you may as well just be playing The Sims at that point.

Why no dungeon tokens for laurels?
Because that is a terrible idea.
Share the same sentiments as most other posters. Why even have dungeons then.
Only some content should be available using specific methods. They are after all just skins. What’s next? Legendaries exchanged for laurels. I know its an exaggeration, and i personally have nothing against solo players. But honestly why not just TRY a dungeon once. They’re not great, but they’re not horrible either. You can still be a solo player, but dont just refuse to ever play alongside anyone else on principle and still expect identical treatment.
I suppose the argument for this change would be that fractal gear is available in exchange for laurels but i believe this was done simply to ensure parity in terms of gear amongst the playerbase from a functional point of view. Ascended gear needs to be available to everyone.
Exotic gear on the other hand has numerous methods to obtain, dungeons just being one of them. I’m impartial to the fractal gear but making dungeon tokens available for laurels is just absurd, though i suppose few players would actually exchange them.

this is not a single player game.
its a MMORPG you can’t play everything solo
I’d rather wonder what would happen to my dungeon gear once ascended armor and weapons come out. I Really do not want to have to do some extreme thing or be forced into getting 100 laurels for a suit of armor or something ridiculous.
I really do wonder what will happen to Dungeon Armor once Ascended Armor comes out. Why run a dungeon if we can get ascended stuff later?

I genuinely believe they will overhaul dungeons to the point where ascended gear actually becomes available by completing them. The most basic way being similar to the current system, just costing perhaps 5x as many tokens.
Either that or have longer, increasingly more difficult dungeon modes. All speculation though. But they wont make dungeons obsolete.
Saying ‘make dungeon gear available without doing dungeons’ is kind of like saying ‘make WvW achievements available without doing WvW’, or ‘Make HoM gear available without playing GW1’.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I think cosmetic rewards should be given out for doing specific tasks or accomplishments in the game. They shouldn’t be interchangeable. Stats, however, should be able to be acquired in all kinds of ways.
The real question should be, why can we not use dungeon tokens to get Laurels?

While I am not in favor of this idea, I understand where the OP is coming from.
You don’t want to be forced into having to join a group just to get the particular armor you want. I get that, it makes sense, but think of the other side of the argument on that. Some of us have worked through these dungeons and ‘earned’ the right to have these skins, is that fair to those players? I have 2 characters that I have geared out in full dungeon themed armor and it took a while to pull off. It would leave a little bit of a bad taste for me to know that someone else got the same thing my just playing and doing daily missions while I spent the time with my guild and PUG’s trying to bank enough tokens.
I think a good middle ground would be if more armor skins were available in the Gem Shop. This would give people that didn’t want to run dungeons more options for their looks without stepping on the ‘prestige’ that earning a full dungeon set brings. Solo players could trade in gold for gems to get skins, or spend a very small amount of cash for them. Alternatively, there could even be skins that are available from Laurels but not the same ones you get from Dungeons.
In my opinion, this is the best middle ground, most people that play GW2 agree that one thing this game badly needs is more armor skins.

You don’t get a reward for something you didn’t work for simple as that. I have my own guild and I have a dedicated dungeon running group but for the most part I’m a soloist and do a majority of the PvE content solo as intended. But I don’t believe you should be rewarded for doing something you didn’t do at all.

And if they don’t add more armor skins then they should add a new transmutation stone that would allow us to use any armor class type. And since they said its quite expensive to make new skins I would think that would be the next logical thing to do…. :/

I would love that. Seriously, I would absolutely love that.
OT: OP is missing the whole point of dungeons and dungeon armor. If you want the skins, put in the work. If the skin isn’t worth the dungeon running, than there are a ton of other nice-looking armors available in PvE. Some dungeons (Arah) are too long and should be shortened, but the fact that some dungeons need tweaking doesn’t mean we should do an end-run around the whole point of dungeon skins.
Same goes for the laurels – the tonics, etc, are a reward for players who like and participate in PvE regularly. IDK why some ascended stuff is still only available from laurels, if it’s a real armor tier and not something added to placate the content locusts then it should be available everywhere like exotic. But that’s another discussion.
Dungeon skins should signify your accomplishment of mastering the specified dungeon, getting them some other way would be wrong.

Why not go the other way? Convert our excess dungeon tokens to laurels.

Agree great idea and why can’t we convert say one load of dungeon tokens for another, i have a heap of SE tokens from helping a few friends in there, but nothing in that dungeon looks worth getting to me, its ugly, but i’d love to get Hotw items but no one ever seems to run it, so i never get them..etc..

Really? Serious? Its a dungeon in a game, you play for fun, who cares how people get them as long as they enjoy themselves…

I’ve got to say, I hate your answers. With so many of you saying more or less the same thing, however, I have to admit that you’re most likely hitting the mark on the reason.
There’s a few points I’d like to argue, but that’s not what this thread is for. Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question, and may the Mystic Forge be kind to you.

I think they keep adding currencies to boost the economy and give hardcore gamers a reason to keep grinding and dungeon tokens are extremely easy to grind if you know the dungeons well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they added more at this point.
