Agree. That’s why I would really like if the last thing you do for your legendary is a quest. Where you have to do a tricky JP and fight your way through this mini story to get to an alter or forge or someone who will tell you a story, you hand them the 4 items and you get a beautiful cinematic of being handed and wielding your legendary. Imagine a dragon or something crazy like that forging and giving you your legendary. That’d be sweet.
Man, if they had done programming time on that instead of the Lost Shores Event I think the community would be a lot happier.

Exactly, love WoW for this reason: since I am rogue unfortunately, we helped my friend mage get his legendary and a bunch of dragons spawned above our main city and it was a pretty epic scene, the entire town knew when you got that staff lol plus there is always lore behind them & not to mention they aren’t a mindless grind like in GW2.

I also got my legendary daggers that expac but it wasn’t as cool as the staff

You could make up a back story to your lengendary that fits around the character who is using it.

I think this is an excellent idea. It could either be attached as a description to the weapon or there could be NPC’s at say the Priory who’d detail the history of each weapon. Maybe even a book in the Priory library for each one.

How hard could it be to create a story behind a weapon? If the weapon is treated like a character then it has meaning. It has purpose. It makes the player who aquires it have meaning and purpose.

A very long and challenging single player / multiplayer quest line that takes you to the corners of the world. Making you fight the deadlist of creatures and overcome the most challenging of obstacles. Now thats epic.

What do we have now?

Well… lets see. I can go to the supermarket and buy it or I could grind for months, play the Mystic Casino for the parts I need and make it myself.

This is one of the biggest failures of the game. The premier “end game” activity is an abhorrent grind.

The very least they could have done is created a meaningful quest line and story to go along with it. Tyria has an awesome world and lore to draw from… would have been nice to feel connected to it in that way.

Instead collect 1000 things and pay gold (and money if you have no gold). Hardly epic.

Sadly there is nothing legendary about “Legendaries”. They shouldn’t even be classified as Legendary weapons. They are just regular weapons with fancier skins is all.

Sorry but there is nothing legendary about them. There is no lore behind them, no epic journey to obtain them, there is nothing special about them. Just a pretty skin is all. When you can go to the TP and spend gold to buy one, they are no longer legendary. Really there is nothing legendary about spending real money on a game then buying a fancy skin from the TP. How is that legendary? It’s not at all.

They really dropped the ball on these weapons. Just from now on, think of them as overpriced skins. Because that is all they are. There is absolutely nothing that is legendary about them. They should change the name of them to something else honestly. They don’t deserve the title “Legendary”.

Because they are just awesome looking crafted weapons.

I hate story quests in Guild Wars 2 and I would find really lame to do some story quests again in order to craft Legendary weapons. Boring ..

I already crafted myself Juggernaut and now almost done with Predator. For me it was great acomplishement. I dont play mmorpgs because of quests, in fact I found them always boring in mmorpgs (maybe expect swtor)
I play MMORPGs so I can run dungeons, kill bosses, farm material/gold, pvp, obtain best gear, customize my character.

@ SpyderArachnid Legendries were always just skins, dont know what are you complaining here about

BTW. I think the tier ’’Legendary’’ they have is deserved, because they are really Legendary skins with awesome effects

So … Complete story quests in order to craft myself best looking weapons in-game? HELL NO.

And I think there are already few topics abou this, so please stop creating new ones. There wont be any changes anyways. System is already up and running, hundereds of players already crafted their Legendaries and thousands are almost done too. So either you join them, work for it or give up.

@ SpyderArachnid Legendries were about skins from the beggining, dont know what are you complaining here about Btw .. The tier is called ’’Legendary’’, not title and I think their skins are Legendary, really awesome looking weapons.

“Legendaries” will always be BiS. They will scale automatically to each new tier introduced, allowing you access to every new set of stats before anyone else. A “Legendary” weapon will always be the best weapon you can have. As well as having it, you never have to farm for the next tier of weapons, cause you will already have it.

I’d say that’s more than just a glorified skin. The thing I am complaining about is that there is no “legendary” way of obtaining them. It is simple mystic forge gambling or grinding or spend some money on the TP. Sorry but there is nothing legendary about that.

Conan didn’t go to the market to buy Atlantean did he? No. He earned it. There is a story behind it. Such is the way of a legendary weapon. It is unique and has a history. There was a journey involved in obtaining it. It shouldn’t just be something you can go to the store and buy. There is nothing legendary about that.

I love the idea of having lore behind Legendaries and most things in game. One thing that has annoyed me about FotM is the fact that Agony hasnt been explained. But with the Legendaries I think that its already too late to include lore. These weapons do not send you on an epic quest, just an epic ‘grind’ (I use this term lightly because I am not against grinding).

So what about another tier? Lets call it…Ancestral. You grind the mats and make the weapon as per legendary but once you have the weapon, the quest to upgrade begins. And I do mean QUEST. Depending on the legendary, you recieve certain ‘scrap’ items that give clues as to what you need and how to get it. Think multiple step scavenger hunt with jumping puzzles, small mob/boss filled instances and an actual story as to why youre doing what youre doing.

It’s too late for Legendary but not for Acsended. I don’t care if Legendary weapons have thier stats upgraded to Acsended; if they don’t there will be a kittenstorm.

I’d like to get an Ascended weapon in a meaningful way. I want it to be so kitten hard like having to do 30 insane jumping puzzles in 60 minutes. I want to dodge fireballs or explode into flaming bits of chunky salsa if I don’t.

I like how I make a suggestion and get flamed.

Honestly, I do not see the point of adding lore to an item that more than 1 person can have.

For example, let say you have a GS with flavor text that says “Wielded by the greatest Charr warrior to ever grace the field of battle.” and 3000 people have it.

So the greatest Charr warrior had 3000 weapons? I guess that would make him pretty great, but it would not make the weapon any more special.

‘’Anyone can work, save money and buy house’’ Really?
So you are telling me, graduating colledge, buying dreamed house, buying expensive car is not accomplishment and everyone can do it? Really?

Man I think you dont even know what accoplishment means, do you?

Accomplishment is SUBJECTIVE feeling.
It means: ‘’Something that has been achieved successfully.’’

So yes. Usually for normal person, craft Legendary is big accomplishment. Usually bigger than finishing story quest line. For some not …

So just because for some its not accomplishment, doesnt mean its not for everyone. Usually they didnt even craft their Legendaries and because they are lazy or they do not like farming, they demand changes.

Just go craft a Legendary … before that, you have no rights to complain.

Now, your comments just sound like this: ‘’ Hey man, you have Bentley? Who cares.. I could have one too, If i wasnt so lazy. Its an easy task to make money for it. I go rather ask Gandalf If he has some new quests ready for me! ’’

I’m in the “legendary weapons are missed opportunity” camp. Nothing legendary about shelling out a few hundred or thousand gold or farm basic materials for a while then throwing it in the forge in LA. They should’ve called green items something else and these expensive crafted items “masterwork”. That would’ve left the door open to use the “legendary” tag on something that deserves it.

For something to be called legendary they should have at least put in a token effort with some background to learn about the weapon on the intermediate hand-ins and like a trek into a remote location where you fight a veteran to access a special forge to make it. The scavenger hunts for the halloween and lost shores events had more flavor then making a legendary weapon, kinda makes you wonder.

I’d prefer it if legendaries were created via a quest obtained after finding a precursor weapon. A quest so amazing and legendary, it requires several dungeons, several jumping puzzles, and possibly facing off against some really awesome creature just for the precursor to level up into the legendary. Or hell, maybe in an expansion, you go through a quest to get said legendary in order to gain the power to take down a dragon.

I agree that they missed a good opportunity with the “Legendary” weapons. But, and let’s be honest here, should all “legendary” weapons be ungodly powerful?

No.

I’d suggest renaming most of the current legendary weapons to something new. Legendary weapons should be something else, sometimes even minor seeming things that carry an unusual importance.

An example might be the bow of a legendary centaur archer. Doesn’t have to be a very special bow, but it was HIS. Or maybe the dagger that was the first weapon to draw blood when the humans invaded charr lands ages ago. Or a staff said to be made from the first tree that ever grew on Tyria. Things you chase after not because of the power they have, but because of the story you can get into as you hunt them down.

Maybe they’ll add something like this someday. Side stories that you can play through or not as you wish, but they take you all over as you track down one of these items. Add a couple to each level range, and you suddenly have a second story people can play alongside their personal story.

It’s quite an interesting shift in dynamics; dumb the game down for casuals, but at the same time remove the RP/lore factor which interested them in the first place.

No wonder all these AAA titles release to much fanfare, only to die off quickly. They’re literally being designed to be marketed to everyone, even though such an approach is incapable of producing a game everyone likes.

I wholeheartedly agree. A world’s lore is the world’s physics and incomplete lore means incomplete physics.

Specifically to Legendary weapons. I think Dogblaster is right…mostly. Everything besides the precursor requires a meaningful story of accomplishment to obtain. While the precursor appears to revolve around TP lore, I think it actually revolves around Zommoros and exploring his story could help expand on Legendary lore.
