Why is GW2 not on steam? Wouldn’t it be better for a F2P game to be on steam, we’d have more players especially with good marketing for the expansion the player count’d blow,, as well ass toxicity i’m afraid

This question has been asked multiple times and it is a no. Steam wants too much for too little.

I believe Steam take enough of a chunk out of sales and also possibly in game sales, for it to put a lot of companies like Anet off. Ultimately I suspect their marketing dept will have a better idea if the % they’d give to Steam would be recuperated in the additional visibility.

I am more wondering, what’s be the benefit?

MMORPGs hardly need extra exposure.

Steam typically take 30% of sales, I don’t know what they charge for f2p hosting. Not to mention that GW2 would be just one of hundreds maybe thousands of free to play games there, lost in a sea of garbage. I don’t think it’s true to say that this would get a lot more sales for ArenaNet.

I think steam puts the newly updated games on it’s main page in the store, this’d advertise GW2 on steam and someone who doesn’t know about anything would check it, seeing it’s F2P and the visuals are quite decent they’d try it imo BUT I don’t know about the % steam takes and it might be too much for too little as people have said above.

Those people at Valve are fat and lazy. Robbing game developers instead of doing something usefull, like… i dunno… Half Life 3! I’m still waiting Gabe! Why are you doing this to me Gabe?!

Yep, it’s be on the front page for at least an hour until the next wave of shovelware asset flips push it off.

I think steam has big problems with the quality and quantity of titles they’ve let on in the last few years (over 4000 in 2016 alone). That’s about 11 a day, may not seem that much but the constant flood of games means that a lot of good games get overlooked because they have a few hours before they’re pushed off the front page by some new cookie clicker (of course, it’s not steam’s responsibility to advertise anyone’s games for them).

Too much garbage on the steam inventory. Plus arenanet doesnt need steam for anything.

This. Steam is a oversaturated platform. You’ll get a couple days of visibility at best after a release, and then you’re lost in the bottomless abyss of the steam library.

Nooooooo, please! The community has already grown more childish and toxic with old-timers leaving and many kids joining (especially with the f2p option). What we don’t need is more of this, because Steam is hosting the worst gaming communities ever (tone, manners etc.).

i don’t want steaming pile of kitten anywhere near one of my favorite game, seriously just….don’t.

Not everything needs to be on Steam and I’m glad GW2 doesn’t follow this trend.

I recall it used to be on Steam and was removed. I don’t think they’ll be going back anytime soon.

The original series is still on Steam, but GW2 never was.

Probably not worth the extra work to have to deal with the Steam platform or Anet just doesn’t have the manpower necessary.

I doubt they don’t need the extra exposure or access to their game as they aren’t a behemoth like blizzard nor is it likely that the deduction for Steam’s services is a major problem. Even Square sells FF14 through Steam and every game that sells physical copies sells them to the outlet at a fraction of what you actually pay for it.

If Anet sold disk copies through amazon for example, Anet would probably see 20 out of the $30 you spent at most.

WoW is not on Steam also. Its cheaper and game does not need it for visibility.

I would throw steam to trash if I could, I don’t get all these steam hype and consider it useless.

you can set the game up through steam though and be able to shift tab then. but not purchase through steam

People like steam because of the sales, and cause everyone else is on it. Other than that its not that good, and full of mountains of garbage games.

I dislike this kind of threads being spammed over, and over with constant ‘Why can’t we get this game to Steam!’

The fact that Arenanet, after nearly five years of success, shouldn’t need to fall back to Steam just to keep the exposure. They have done so much stuff, and accomplished lots. Why should they now bring Guild wars 2 to Steam, just so Steam can profit off the hard-work as well?

The current condition that Guild wars 2 have right now, is sufficient, and completely grand. It have been competence, and been satisfying the needs of several players who need a decent MMORPG.

Or a break from life, and enjoy something. The issue with Steam, is that it doesn’t bring anything new to Guild wars 2, but rather slow down the development that Arenanet is doing, because it means that the money that you gives them will be sliced down by 30%. Meaning that Arenanet cannot develop a lot of contents more easily.

So as much as you want to say why we can’t have Guild wars 2 to being on Steam. Just accept that this game had been around for nearly 5 years, and the fact that it’s not on steam should answer the question that it’ll never be on steam for quite the long time. Probably never.

GW2 doesn’t need exposure. When googling best MMO’s or mmo’s in general GW2 always comes up as one of the top contenders on the list.

GW2 also has the franchise history of over a decade that has resonated with its players

During the PoF reveal GW2 twitch channel had more viewers than league. Im gonna say thats also a good amount of exposure and good amount of fanbase there for it to not need steam
