Why not just ONE Guild?
Nah… different guilds serve different purposes – WvW, PvP, raid, etc…
One guild system would be better only if every guild would have dedicated raid groups, general PVE people, WvW population, SPvP teams, Roleplayer, musicians and traders. Oh and also offer personal guild banks for every member.
Somehow I think the current system is going to be better for quite some time…
Nope. If you only want one group of friends/guildies then go for it. The ability to have multiple guilds allows guilds to specialize and hold on to people who have more than narrow play styles.
ANet may give it to you.
Considering guild chat is seen by all members, there’s no reason for 100% rep anymore. If your guild is running events, then remind members to rep then, but repping just to “be there” doesn’t do anything.

There isn’t a lot of large fully functioning PvX guilds around. What is fully functioning PvX guild? Means guild that large and robust enough to have WvW / Raid / PvP / PvE activities. Great majority of PvX guilds are just PvX in name and generally only does specific PvE things. In order to create a real PvX guild, it takes a lot more efforts which plenty others not willing to put in. Creating a specific mode guild is way more easier than a true PvX guild, furthermore, it is way more easier to disband such a guild than a true PvX guild (due to different personal values)

I’m all for being in multiple guilds. Makes the socializing easier. But since repping gives nothing, I just stick with the one I’m in with most. Repping a guild should give something, otherwise, what’s the point?

Repping changes which guild bank and guild hall you’re accessing. It’s a very crucial mechanic unless they rework the whole system.
Multiple guilds is nice so you can pick multiple guilds for specific parts you are interested in. I lead a casual in name PVX guild which is mainly focused on PvE lately. We have plenty of members who just love to be arround with us, but for certain specific activities like Raids/WvW/PvP also join one or more specialized guilds. I think the current system if perfect for this. We have never bothered with representing even before we got HoT and representing had a much larger effect that it has today.
We allow our members the freedom to do as they like. If they like to rep us, fine if not, also fine. Since HoT we do ask(again no requirement) all members to have the guild chat visible so they can stay a bit up to date about the guild and for example help out with requests and questions. This works fine and does not require any representing at all.
We currently also have an ‘alliance’ guild in addition to players regular guilds through which players across multiple guilds can stay in touch with each others, can get updates about larger (multi guild) community events, and use its utiltity in WvW in addition to their ‘own’ guild. (for example they can use the alliance guild to claim a camp for the bufs while their own guild already holds a keep or so).
Then there are also plenty of players who have a private guild on the side that they use for the additional storage space (though since HoT is out, its a lot harder to get the guild bank for a guild).
Then you have the small friend groups that have a guild to stay in touch together (across multiple guilds) or build and decorate their own guildhalls.
System is fine as it is, it allows players way more freedom in general as they can just pick parts from guilds that they like. Ofcourse if you do not like that and want 1 guild where everyone can do everything, you are free to join just 1 guild which requires 100% representing and you should be happy as well.
That the system is in the game does not mean that you have to use it, but just because someone does not like it, does not mean others feel the same way.
For example we have plenty of guests who visit us to level up their scribe (since it is much cheaper to level with certain (mostly WvW related) guild unlocked recipes, and there are plenty of guilds, specially PvE ones which do not have these unlocked (as they are expensive to unlock and useless to them)) With this system they can just join us, rep us during the crafting while still being able to read and interact with their own guild. With only 1 guild they would either have to leave their own guild temporary to join us for that and have no interaction with their own guild at all. The same is true for members of mainly smaller guilds who join us during guild missions to either help their own guilds get the favor they need for their guilds or just join us for the guild mission rewards since their own guild does not run them/runs them at a time they are unable to join.
Personally specially since the HoT update, i think the multi guild system is one of the best things in GW2. Since you can now keep the chat visible of all the guilds you joined, you can actively participate in multiple guilds.
but nothing requires you to do this and there are still plenty of full 100% rep guilds around in case you prefer to have only 1 guild.

Why do we have the “rep” Feature
Why we cant just have one guilid.
Every big guild got like 60% active guild members who “stand” for their guild.
The rest is just in the guild for “beeing in the guild”
Just one Guild would be better in my opinion.
SHOW YOUR FLAG AND STAND FOR IT!
Tbh there should only be ONE guild and then have the alliance system from gw1 ported all our problem solved.

I wasn’t aware that the gw2 system where you are able to read chat from hundreds of people across up to 5 guilds was a problem. I wasn’t aware that being able to be a member of up to 5 specialty guilds where each focus on a different, specific play style was a problem. I wasn’t aware that a system where guild can specialize and not have to worry about being too narrowly specialized to retain members was a problem.
In fact, I think none of these are a problem.
ANet may give it to you.
Why do we have the “rep” Feature
Because it allows guilds to not have to worry about being all things to all of its members. Small guilds don’t have to rush to upgrade their halls, because they know their members can also join a big guild that offers those services. PvE guilds can also appeal to WvW players, because they know that their large-scale warriors can team up with guilds that spend time in the mists.
Why we cant just have one guilid.
You can. Just join one guild. If it bothers you that some people in your guild sometimes rep other guilds, join a guild that requires 100% rep.
Just one Guild would be better in my opinion.
And others think it would be worse. In real life, I can join a book club, a stargazing club, and a neighborhood group; why shouldn’t we have the same opportunity in games?
It’s funny that people think being in multiple guilds is something that only happens in this game. In other games, you can make different characters and they can each be in different guilds. Much the same as this, but this at least is out in the open.
I prefer this system.

Yeah, I can’t see any problems here at all.
This cannot be changed now. Reducing the number of guilds you can be a part of will cause huge disruption and destroy guilds and communities and for what? Because some people think it’ll be better to only be in one guild? Daft.
Fine, so only join one guild that requires members to rep 100% of the time. “Problem” solved.
I like things the way they are now.
Ermm……
Since when rep rule stop people from joining more than one guild?
If you can have guilds that have rep rule, you can also have guilds that don’t require you to rep. Both are simply different sides of the same coin.

When GW2 first came out, id agree with you Op, since it promoted guild hopping, and not being loyal to a guild. That’s where gw1 guild and allaince was much better. Now with that said 4 years later and we have now cross guild chat ability. The current system is now superior to what we had in gw1, since you can still be loyal to your guild, and still join others, specially if your looking for an aspect your main guild your loyal to doesnt do. Now it’s like your own personal alliance which is awesome. The one thing i laugh about now with this new system, is guilds that still “force” a 100% rep rule, there is 0 need for it now, since aslong as i have that guild’s chat selected i can still see and respond to them there shouldnt be a problem.
@OP
If you think a single guild system is better than the current one, you’ve either never played a MMO with single guild restriction, or you’ve have the enormous luck finding a bunch of players who you get along with AND do everything you’ve interested in at the times you’re available.
when the game first came out like others have pointed out back then guilds ment
something . then after that got changed well guild mean noting at all at best all guilds
mean is a home farming nodes service for free and if i remember right you do not even
get the guild rank for doing guild missions any more like you used to boil it all down
to now guilds just mean at best bunch of chat and free nodes . making guilds super
useless
Well for example am a member of both a NA guild and another which has members oceania based. Because I live in Australia but I work unusual hours so I mostly play during the day on weekdays (which is afternoon/night “primetime” in USA) and I play late nights on the weekend (which is when USA way too late / early and they are all asleep) so it’s nice to play with my Australian guild at those times.
Anet pretty much did away with the importance of repping when they got rid of passive influence.
Reply to opening post : No.
I think we need more than 5 guilds
Tbh there should only be ONE guild and then have the alliance system from gw1 ported all our problem solved.
While I doubt it would solve ALL our problems it made a lot of sense.
I was in a PvP guild in a (mostly) PvE alliance: Tight knit community and it worked really well.
Seems like Anet v.2 is dead set on reinventing (and in the process downgrading) every well working feature from the original that Anet v.1 created.
There’s no way I would want to give up my Personal Guild banks.
Thus, no thanks to ‘just one Guild’.
Good luck.
I have one guild that’s dead but holds all the people I used to play with in my Guild Wars 1 guild. Having them all in one guild instead of scattered scross a friends list means that I can check the roster and see if any of them logs on. If they do come back it means they can open a guild panel and see all our names and see who is still playing. I have a large PvE guild and then I found another guild that I used to belong to for a while in Guild Wars 1 and I became a member of that guild. It’s not real active but we chat in guild chat and occasionally do missions. In addition I have 2 bank guilds that I use for storage. Now, why should I want to give up all this because you think you are having problems.
ANet may give it to you.
being allowed to stay in a ton of guilds at the same time is bad for the integrity of the guild system and it harms the development of inside guild communities
i suppose that step was taken by anet as a desperate attempt to make the game into facebook giving people more ways to chat hence making it more massive, but in reality people who dont represent never use the guild chat and most use the multiguild system only to add to their bank slots

Doubtful, since the ability to see/respond to multiple Guild chat was not implemented for 3+ years, or so.

No, it’s only bad for guilds that aren’t offering much to their members. People rep and participate for two reasons: they like the rewards and/or they have fun. Guilds can’t do much about the first usually, but they have a lot of control over how much fun folks have… and it turns out that it’s difficult for guilds to manage that.
Multi-guild works great for niche guilds that are focused on one sort of thing and to generalist guilds that aren’t trying to offer all things to all people
