Why not make Ascended gear PvE only?
Speaking for myself, it would. If I was able to complete a dungeon, I want it to be because of my skill as a player, not because I have better gear. If I was to come back from a six month break, I want to be able to do any PvE content without having to gear up again.
I whole-heartedly agree. But, I think the GW2 team considers WvW to be PvE, or if not PvE some nether-world between PvE and PvP, and that’s really a problem. Most of my concerns about ascended gear would be allayed by only allowing exotics and legendaries into WvW. Listen to this suggestion Anet! We neither need nor want to get on a gear treadmill in order to stay competitive. Keep ascended gear out of WvW! *Bonus: This policy would also be beneficial to all the crafters who still want to sell their exotics to eager WvWers.

i really dont get why have splitted mechanic! the ascended tier must be only a skin tier and not more strong then the exotic one.
for the infusion, simple solution, let all infuse the exotic gear… All happy, no more work on item balancing… the team can think only on event, bugfix , and a real charachter progression. And mostly, no more refund request, or deluded fanbase.

I’m an exclusively PvE player, and I don’t like this compromise. If you allow a gear treadmill to start in PvE, eventually there will be content PvE players cannot do without the gear (and I’m not just talking about dungeons). I want to be able to play the game without gear grind.
It’s just as much of an issue for people who mainly or exclusively play PvE as it is for WvW players.
How would things go down if the grind was only in regards to infusions ?
Specifically:
– To infuse your armor, you need to infuse the upgrade. Which means combining the rune with the infusion in the Mystic Forge.
– The infusion only comes with agony resistance.
– Infused upgrades can go on any gear the regular upgrade can take. Or maybe the only difference of Ascended gear is that it can take infused upgrades
– The only point of agony resistance is to get further in places like FOTM which consist of repeating content with higher agony levels. But the lowest level of FOTM-like dungeons remains one without agony.
So to see the content, no grind is required. But to have bragging rights or the increased reward, you need to grind. Though the higher rewards can’t be anything that generates coin, only stuff that other players will buy, otherwise the economy will be affected.
People who want gear progression would have it. People who don’t can just skip it.
