Why not make dungeon solo-able?
Why don’t you go do it solo now? And if you pull it off, you can brag.
Why would you make a dumbed down easy version of a dungeon intended for multiple players and then reward them with special armor? That’s like rewarding somebody for writing their name correctly on a test where they scored zero points.
I know of two people who duo’d cm explo.
There’s nothing to stop you from doing them with less than a full group.
I don’t see any reason to water down this one bit of group gameplay, the only group content in pve.
I think dungeons were made the way they are to encourage group play. A lot of this game is designed around the idea of people working together to attain a common goal – from mechanics to storyline. And this is an MMO, after all, so I’d say one of the main features is inherently going to be playing with other people.
But if you want to solo dungeons then I’d say go ahead and give it a shot. Plus I think it’d kind of take away the novelty and sense of achievement if they lowered the difficulty level for what you’re suggesting anyways: I can imagine everyone and their mothers having the special equipment if they were implemented with such a feature, which going from the tone of your post, is probably not quite what you had in mind.
I get what TC meant by individual gain a sense of accomplishment by solo’ing a raid boss. That was because in those mmos, there’re “gear progressions” that make geared players feel imba and accomplished solo killing a boss that requires groupwork. The “accomplishment” is being able to acquire and enhance an equipment that’re 5-10x more powerful than average players for you to solo a boss.
Solo’ing dungeon is just not applicable with gw2 structure. Remember that this game has no rewards for dedicating more time to your avatars. The game has the mentality “bragging about yourself for putting more time = griefing others”. Therefore, the system made casuals and hardcore players as equal as possible. It doesn’t have that kind of mmorpg progressions and growth. No matter how much effort you put to your characters, you’ll be the same as any players around you. The rewards are just for you to look different from other players which I don’t know how many will appreciate.
This is why gw2 dungeons better not be made solo’able.
If GW2 make dungeon solo’able, players no longer need a reason to group up. Also, no one would feel special to own a unique “dungeon equipment” from the efforts of being under peer pressured in dungeons if it’s soloable.
Dungeons are about two things – playing your character reasonably well, and coordinating with others. Soloable versions remove one of those.
Also, they introduce another balancing problem, since people would reasonably expect every class to be equally able to complete them.
You asking for this from the perspective of an ex-Rift player? Just curious since they kind of did this.

I got the idea from BnS which a NcSoft game that’s suppose to release in the west later, they have solo dungeon from what i’ve read, i didn’t particular like the game cause i tried it on a private server and didn’t like the gameplay and wonder why doesn’t gw2 have more solo content .
On a similar topic, how about special solo dungeon instances with puzzles and tough LEGIT boss fights (none of this high hp, auto attacking, kite it around bosses) with different skill levels and unique skins/rewards.
I would be insanely excited.
why gw2 doesnt have more solo content?
considering that only the dungeons are group content, the ocassional DE tagged as group content, and the end game quest which is pretty much doing a dungeon, are group content.
that siad gw2 has remarkable less group content (and/or) forced group content than most mmos out there
good or bad is up to each one
because it’s a MMO. why play a MMO if you want a solo game?
why doesn’t gw2 have more solo content .
almost the entire game is soloable the only that isent are Meta Events and Dungeons .keep dungeons the way they are
I wouldn’t mind seeing a solo version of the story mode, i doubt it be that tough to make work… Not many people running story mode anymore.
wonder why doesn’t gw2 have more solo content .
The only non-solo content is dungeons and tournament pvp. Oh, and 1 episode of the 80-levels of story quest requires a dungeon.
The overwhelming majority of the game is for solo players.

While I appreciate your interest in more solo content, I would prefer that developer resources be applied to other aspects of the game. Most of the PvE game is solo-able now. So, adding more content in the open world, fixing problems and making dungeon rewards more worthwhile are all higher priorities in my book. Unfortunately, no game has unlimited developer time to throw at everything and anything.

Durmand Priory storyline has puzzles, and its the closer to a dungeon instance you are looking for.
@munkiman – I agree, and really would add to that any of the story mode dungeons. More specifically, incorporate the Destiny’s Edge story into the personal story.
When the game first came out, and on my first character, there were opportunities for story modes everywhere. Now, working on my fourth character there isn’t very many opportunities.

I don’t understand. There’s the same instanced dungeons with story mode as there ever was. You have the same opportunities.

More people leveling at release, more people doing the personal story and more people trying out all the dungeons for the 1st time: this means at that time there were more people doing the story mode dungeons over the explorable ones.
He/she isn’t saying there are less story mode dungeons, he/she is saying there is less people doing story mode dungeons.

I think he/she meant getting into groups for the story mode of dungeons.

Ok, I get it. The opportunities are there.
You just need cooperative friends to do ’em.
They need to make the dungeons at least story mode 2 or 3 man on my sever its hard to find groups for the time i play.
No. The entire rest of the game is solo-able. Your personal story is your own perpetual solo story dungeon. Can we have something in an MMO that requires MMO play?

No, just no. Guild Wars 2 is based on two things: Exploration and Teamwork. If you go make dungeons designed for one player only, or you courage players to solo dungeons, the teamwork will go away and those who actually loves the teamwork, will have a harder time to find a party for a dungeon, if there are people who only want to solo it.
Also it would only increase the ego of certain players even greater

Some of the mini-dungeons for Achievements are pretty soloable. For example, Vexa’s Lab is soloable and a challenge. The boss mechanics aren’t too interesting though.
And originally I was under the impression that story mode dungeons would be soloable. I was kind of disappointed to see that wasn’t the case. I wish it was, just for the fact I feel rushed through the cinematics in them.
Im currently gonna try for the dungeon master title and what an aggravation it is to try to find a group. I wish they would make a group of henches like in gw1, but in this game just have them for grab and go dungeons. it would be so much better. i know i could join a guild, but i dont really care to atm. i would prefer to join a guild that i will stay in and be part of then just use to help me get past stuff in the game then leave it.
ive been in queensdale for 3 days now looking for a cm explore group for the serapth path because ive gotten the other ones and ive got lucky 1 time, but someone left then the others i guess thought it was too hard and gave up. then theres the explore groups i have joined and people will pick different paths and not trying to be rude i stay and help them for a hour or however long it may take.
i dunno about being able to solo them because they are made for teams, but a group of henchs waiting to be hired by the dungeon entrance would help alot.

Honestly, if you’re working toward that title and have trouble finding a group, it’s a clear and present sign that you do not deserve the title.
If you’re a good player, people will seek you out, add you to their friends list, and/or you’ll have them on yours.

That is just the way it is. Many people will run story mode once and at least each explorer path once. That leaves 3 times more people doing explorer than story. However many will also play explorer for the weapon/armour set. Therefore there are many more people doing explorer than story.
But you shouldn’t have a hard time finding someone for a dungeon, especially in explorer. If all else fails join a group that is doing an other path than you want. If you do a quick and good dungeon run, than many may stay for other paths, too.
But rewarding the people that don’t want to bother with team play and making use of the different classes playing together and give them an easier dungeon would be just strange.

I’d like to see a soloable version of story mode (and story mode ONLY). No tokens, no phat lewtz; I just want to, well, see the story. And given that you can’t even finish the PERSONAL story line without a group, well…
It can be VERY difficult to find a group for story mode, depending on time of day, overall server population and probably half a dozen other factors I haven’t thought of yet. Added to this, some of us* have broadband connections of dubious stability, meaning even if a group CAN be found there’s a chance to drop with little to no warning – and when there are four other people counting on you, not only do you not get to finish the dungeon but you come out looking like an kitten.
In short: solo story mode please.
*Yes, I do mean me.
Like the idea, the rewards need to be different and of less quality. Imo, better addition would be dungeons that can be done in less time (1h absolute max) that have an armor set & weapon set of their own. Make it rare or master, not exotic.
Why? During the week I work and I can’t spend 2h-3h in a dungeon. Also, you depend on randoms sometimes and they just stop in-between or they are so novice that you can’t make it, so….that means only blue items for mobs that are way more hard than the mobs in Orr who drop loads of master and rare items.
why should they? Most online games of this type are designed around group play. For solo play, there are FAR more refined games (because they can concentrate on a single player experience). Get Dark Souls, Dragon´s Dogma or whatever to play when you feel like soloing dungeons. I rather not have two versions of GW2 and all the rebalancing, double dev time and what not associated with that.
why should they?

You’re right; there ARE many fine single player games out there. And if I wanted to be playing them, I would be.
I agree it is very hard to get story mode groups going as everyone is farming explorable and it is a shame, but the answer is not to make them solo endeavours, but to give an incentive to run these dungeons in story mode.
The misconception is that solo automatically means easy.
It doesn’t have to. I’d love to have solo dungeons in which my skills as a player are tested. The problem with that is, if they make it too hard and people aren’t good enough to do it, they complain endlessly (clock tower, which btw was AMAZING).
Every other type of game forces you to get good enough to complete their challenges or give up. I guess it’s just MMOs where it’s assumed everything has to be easy and “difficulty” is offset by adding more players to your party.
Priorities, what to do?
