Was going to a plateau with skelk on the edge, pressed JI for a nice shortcut… nope. Got really upset over it. Engine limitations? Gameplay reasons? for breaking the realism of teleporting.

Teleport’s messed up – can’t use Guardian sword #2 to teleport to a mob standing on a raised step, even tho I can run over, jump on the step AND THEN #2 teleport to him… :P

Same is true of other teleport skills (e.g. Judge’s Intervention)

Teleport in GW2 isn’t a true teleport, it’s more like Shadowstep in GW1 (with the same sort of limitations wrt to pathing)

Because they don’t want people teleporting into otherwise sealed parts of the map.

for breaking the realism of teleporting.

Read that back to yourself a few times. It’s funnier than you think .

They aren’t really teleports.

Even if the skill description says they are teleports. Skill descriptions often lie and may lie for extended periods of time. You can’t trust them, so you can only trust the behavior of the skill in action to really see what it does.

Like how Distortion says “evade all attacks” but actually makes you invulnerable, not evading, or how Pistol Whip is actually two consecutive skills activated with a single button, and the second one evades, but the skill description does not say anything about that. Or how Sublime Conversion is a water field but the skill does not say anything about that.

The only true teleports are mesmer’s Portal and Spectral Recall. These are the only ones that will teleport you regardless of pathing.

The rest require a pathing between the two points. So they are something else. You can call them “Shadowstep”, “Blink”, or “Flash”. Not teleports at all.

We have shadowsteps and teleports ingame, teleports were nerfed to have the same fuctionality as shadowsteps, mostly.

Difference:
Teleport would move people from point A to B within (sight-)range originally without any limits, later no longer through forcefields/walls/doors
Shadowstaps are instant moves across a field which is checked: is actual (walking)movement possible? if yes -> ok; if no → no valid path to target

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
