I was wondering, why did ArenaNet lock out deldrimor steel, elonian leather and damask components behind a 24 hour time?

I realize this may seem like an odd question considering that Ascended equipment has been out for a good while now, but I never thought to question it until now. I fail to understand the ‘why’ regarding this.

I’m not looking for a debate or anything, I’m just once again failing to see the supposed logic behind a feature’s design. If we have the materials on hand to make the component, why not let us make it? A month to craft a full set of armor even though you have the required materials on hand is quite ridiculous when you think about it. Why was this designed this way?

When Ascended first came out, I thought to myself “Oh, it’s just to make Ascended equipment feel more ‘special’ since it’s is ‘best in slot’.” The stat increase is so minimal, though, that it hardly feels special. It feels like going through the Tough Mudder obstacle course: 12 miles of a masochist’s dream for no significant gains once you are done. It’s like going through basic training in the Marine Corps only to be immediately involuntary discharged from military service upon graduation: went through all that effort and all you can really say is you went through the motions.

Again, I’m just trying to understand ‘why’ this was the intended design, because to me it feels about as sensible as going into Iraq right now while wearing nothing but an American flag and expect to not become the latest terrorist YouTube sensation. Please, ArenaNet, clearly your logic is superior to mine. Share it with me so that I may understand.

It was more of making crafting profitable, not to stop people from getting it within hours of release. You can buy all the ascended materials your self and get all pieces rather quickly. It just costs a lot of gold, like 600.

Well actually you can see that crafting ascended components for example Bolt of Damask is much cheaper than buying them on TP. Why ? Because time is money. You are literally buying time for gold.

I think it is a great idea. Game give you a choice of saving some gold but spending more time on crafting your gear or spending more gold but saving a lot of time.

You can compare it to some simple things in real life like making a meal. You can go to shop, buy ready meal and just cook it in a pot. In most cases it will be more expensive than buying every single ingredient but you can save some time in exchange for money.
