Why the transition?
- PvP? Yea, well, you should know Masteries apply in there too, so have fun being underpowered as opposed to a HoT player;
What Masteries influence the outcome of a pvp match?
[SPQR]
WvW rewards are a complete joke now as well. You get 1 badge from capturing a keep, zero badges from everything else. (badges from player kills seem to be the same)
- Dungeon rewards nerfed to the ground;
This was coming for awhile, expac just seemed like the right time to do it.
- Fractal rewards nerfed to the ground and require you to waste gold on keys if you want to have a chance to get reward in first place;
See above. This is a drastic change that anet is doing specifically to get gold out of the economy.
- Fractal levels locked behind Masteries unless you have a couple hundred gold to waste on agony infusions;
You didn’t buy the expac, meaning your experience from fractals 1-50 has not changed, infact they’ve gotten even faster and even better since you get to pick your favorite stages. You’ve gotten an expac benefit without buying the expac, awesome!
- PvP? Yea, well, you should know Masteries apply in there too, so have fun being underpowered as opposed to a HoT player;
Mastery in PvP? Of what do you speak? Are you talking about the couple of champions that are expac only? Do gliders and mushroom jumping even work in PvP? Res speed mod doesn’t, speed boosts don’t either, legendary crafting I doubt makes a single bit of difference… Please do elaborate.
- WvW, I don’t know yet, simply because I haven’t gone in there but I’m even scared to at this point.
Why? You’re getting access to the new map, as well as all the benefits expac buyers have.
I’m not bashing everyone who bought HoT, don’t get me wrong. I just feel disappointed that suddenly I find myself being locked out of content and underpowered in content that I’ve done just fine before the expansion although I have paid to play this game.
But you’re not. Dungeons, Fractal 1-50, open world, world bosses, etc have not hampered your abilities at all to do what you previously did. The rewards have been nerfed, but that has not locked you out of content, that’s de-centified it.
So, what do I and other players who don’t have the expansion, have as an option? Quit, stay and play whatever content we still have or being forced to buy the expansion?[/quote]
Wait wait wait…. So they took out all those gold sinks a feature patch or two ago and now they are introducing gold sinks to old content on top of removing gold influx from old content to “drastically” fix the gold economics, thus putting the most incentive on their more recent additions, part of which has a price tag?
puts on tinfoil hat Let the conspiracy theories commence!

And supposedly the rewards should have been moved to Fractals & Raids. Fractals is obviously not the case and if they do add it to Raids, why HoT players would be able to do gold and anyone who doesn’t have HoT has to remain with a finger in one’s mouth?

See above, Fractals rewards were supposed to be buffed and they’re even worse than they used to be. A key to unlock one of the boxes costs 1g and most of the time you get a 10s junk item out of it. Where’s the reward buff we’re talking about?

I meant the Elite specilizations. Today I got insta-finished by a warrior, no casting of the finisher, nothing. When I asked what was it he said it’s the new elite spec. So he can use his Elite spec in PvP while I cannot just because I don’t have HoT? How is this fair?

Read the poster above, obviously WvW is just as bad.

$ for gold brah.
Shouldn’t this be obvious? O_o It’s not that tin foil haty really.
Tis inconvenience by design in order for them to make money as F2P games generally do. Can’t stand that. Yes this game is B2P but they have a cash shop as a F2P game would.
It really is the one thing I absolutely hate about Gw2, the kitten gem to gold conversion.
Should’ve just stuck with cosmetics, pets, tools or w/e.
Hey, it’s all justified in the business mind right? Not to do so would be “leaving money on the table”.
But then they put in a way to trade in game gold for premium currency. If we make too much money we’ll just trade it in for gems instead of buying it with our real money. Gotta keep those money making ways nerfed.
Maybe I’m wrong in every regard but it is REEEAAAALLLLYYYYY hard for me not to look at it in this way when you put things together. Also my experience with many mmos over the past few years.

I believe he’s referring to Elite Specs, not masteries here. And he’s correct, in that at the present time, the new elite specs are a bit over powered.
However, most of us expected this and are aware that they should be toned down over in a relatively short span of time. Its precisely for this reason (new spec imbalance and meta shake up) that Anet isn’t opening pvp leagues until the end of next month. It gives them time to balance things, and time for things to settle back into a semblance of normality.
Honestly though, this is a normal for any expansion ever. I remember when Factions was released, the kitten storm about how Sin and Rit were OP, and then when Nightfall came out, it was Derv and Para. Sin and Derv OPness lasted a bit longer than the other 2, but that was also sort of expected considering they where the Dev’s “favored” classes at the time. Still, it did eventually all get sorted. Granted it was never perfect, but it was better.

I would say that Fractal’s are indeed an issue presently. There are several complaints about people getting kicked (pre lvl 50) because they don’t have masteries, and this should not be happening. Considering Fractals are considered ‘core’ content, any masteries for them should have been non-combat affecting, so this type of issue didn’t arise.

What, fractals were always kitten when it came to gold rewards. However, they didn’t exactly nerf the liquid gold rewards from fractals, it just comes in different forms. The real issue is that the so called “fractal reward buff” is hidden behind a layer of RNG where you get more chests than you get keys in order to make you buy more keys for relics and gold in hopes to get one of the more worthwhile trophies out of them.
His (and everyone elses) fractal experience has very well changed as there’s only three dailies you can do now instead of the 4-5 you had before (which could’ve technically been 10 now.) As for the free fractal choices, I’m not too much of a fan of it but this is purely personal preference imo.
Can’t say a thing about PvP and WvW.
Oh, the nerfed rewards are an issue actually, especially with the now higher cost in ascended armor crafting; with less gold sources and more gold sinks, you’re going to have a much more difficult time getting more AR. Considering most of the good gold sources are probably going to be in HoT… well, you see where it’s going. Guess SW Chestfarm is the best thing you can do without HoT now if you need gold.
I was more aiming at an extended they took out gold sinks then (forever ago) to justify adding them now being a bit tinfoily, my own personal theory is that they actually haven’t been working on HoT for that long judging by what I’ve been seeing so far on the forums and fansites =P
For the rest of what you said, it matches my feelings as well. I just rolled my eyes at the gem store exclusive skins that only someone would only get full use of if they had just bought the xpac coming out of the release day of the xpac, didn’t all of those buyers just pay you xD

Not really. They took vanilla content and gated it behind an expansion.
Again, in what way? They even made lower level ones easier, theoretically you could go all the way to 59 with your 70AR, without needing the expac at all. What exactly is gated that was available to you pre-expac?
Yea, you’ve got a legit complaint about elite spec in PvP/WvW; I’ll give you that one. The rest just sound like bitter because you’re not getting the same rewards you used to, which is just.. Meh, tough; expac isn’t what changed that, it’s something that’s needed to happen for a long time.

Exactly my point. I did level 50 fractal as 3man without even having the Agony resistance for it. I’m not the kind of player that took hours to complete a 50 fractal pre-patch, I don’t want easier content, which is the case of Fractals right now. Fractals, as an instance, originated in the vanilla game so if they change something to it, I believe all the changes should be accessible to vanilla players too.
As for whether or not I’m bitter about rewards – I couldn’t care less, I’m just supporting what seemed to be an expectation of most people, or at least people who were generally doing Fractals – once dungeons are nerfed, rewards in Fractals will be increased and that’s not the case.

And the vanilla 1-50 is still available to you. You want up to 100 (expansion benefit), then you have to buy the expac. You’re viewing fractals and everything associated with fractals as one entity. It’s called an expansion, it expands content. For you to expand your current vanilla experience, you must purchase the expansion. Otherwise, feel free to do things as you’ve always done.

I give up.

It’s rather interesting, seeing as the game doesn’t have vertical progression, a vast majority of end game is skins. Hence the nickname Fashion Wars 2.
The majority of skins added to the game come from the store, it is a bit of a shame especially seeing as a paid expansion came out and day 1 we’ve got new skins in the store.

Well we got 3 sets per weight ..4 with the revenant armor and a handfull of “loose” skins. Really skimpy numbers… If only atleast the gem store stuff wouldnt be outfit trash… Oh well
