Why was cooking and Jewler left in the dirt?
Cooking was not left in the dirt, because there is no alternative, thus still BiS.
Jeweler was indeed.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
They could have, but is there a need to do so? I don’t see how they’re “left in the dirt.” Is there something special about level 500?
By keeping the new cooking recipes and feasts at 400, they allowed players to only have one barrier between them and crafting the item (i.e. getting the recipe). Players don’t have to spend time/resources on leveling up their chef.
As for ascended trinkets, they’ve been used as general rewards across the game. Played some fractals? Here are some trinkets. Played PvP and WvW? There are trinkets in reward chests. Explored the new LS3 maps? You can buy trinkets. Logged in? Here are some laurels you can use to buy trinkets. Why do we need jewelers able to craft ascended trinkets and undermine these rewards? They’re already getting saturated in the game.

It’s just a matter of choice. If people don’t want to do fractals or farm unbound magic, they have to wait a while for laurels. WvW isn’t a reliable source of ascended trinkets because the drops are random and typically useless stats.
Right now, Jeweler is a dead end profession and beyond a few specialized recipes and the achievement, a waste of gold. Compared to other professions, it’s the most worthless one because it’s the only profession that cannot make the best of what it was designed for.

Not really, it’s just annoying to see that only 2 professions are locked at 400. And the requirement for 400-500 could just be 400 recipies that wouldn’t drop to green.
Not that it’s really a big deal I suppose. When Anet said they were increasing crafting professions. They did make the statement. “all crafting professions will be increased to 500” of course that was over 3 years ago. I specifically remember they used the word all. Unfortunately I’m unable to find that comment. But then it’s Anet and as we know. all things are subject to change.

Maybe there is some for unbound magic!
Timegated food … does the game really need that?

With how much money I’d make selling that food to impatient raiders? YES!

Jeweling 500, Visible Jewelry
Cooking 500, Assorted Options for +% (magic find, reward tracks, experience, karma, rare gather, rare salvage) added to lvl 80 Food.
Cactus Fruit Salad + Ruby Shard = +8% Reward track
Cactus Fruit Salad + Sapphire Crystal = +10% Rare Gather
So ya I would limit use to t4 and t5 gemstones for +8% and +10% added bonuses.

Not a bad idea really. I wouldn’t mind my toon having a gangsta gold chain.
Fort Aspenwood
JEWELCRAFTING AURAS.
Cooking 500 could implement “Legendary dishes” for lack of a better name. Would let you choose the 2 effects from the pool we already have. Or maybe even longer duration.
Jeweler 500 seems like an obvious thing. Craft ascended accesories, especially Viper ones since I can’t be bothered to grind achievements/map currencies to get a set of those.
seriously though, why are viper accesories painfulyl grindy to get? Its time they put other options for acquiring them. Haven’t touched a condi build since HoT launched because of that stupid grind you have to do to get them.

One of my biggest regrets in the game was going Jeweler/Chef on my main at launch.
Talk about kitten on it all sorts of ways with the release of ascended jewelry and food being insanely cheap.
Meanwhile if I want ascended armor or weapons I NEED armorsmith/weaponsmith/huntsman/artificer.
Anet logic.
It would be nice to at least be able to create Mithrillium with Jeweler.

What about cooking with a Deldrimor stainless steel pan? *chuckles
Lindsey Murdoch talked about this recently on reddit. At least 500 chef is a matter of finding/funding dev time.

Likewise they mentioned they’re still working on Xunlai electrum, so 500 Jeweler is in the wings yet.
Honestly, though, do you expect a less expensive means of getting ascended trinkets than what we already have?
Isn’t it odd that they have funding issues? I wonder if that’s meant in development or real money terms.
If it were real money, I’d be surprised about such a shortage considering the sort of money they throw around.
If it’s down to development “cost” (i.e. man-hours), then I would also be surprised and I suppose they’ve had their staff cut either directly by NCsoft or because of budgetary constraints imposed by NCsoft.

Can it really be so hard to see that some of us enjoy crafting and would like to be able to say “I made all my gear” and have little interest in obtaining it through other ways?
Some of us feel like all crafting professions should be equal at 500 and an appropriate title given for completion, which we would wear proudly. Like there is for level 400 which makes little sense.
Yeah, I’m still waiting for 500 Jeweler and Chef myself. I just like parity among all the crafting disciplines (although I’m not sure what 500 Scribe would provide…)
For me, I’d like to see r500 Jeweler/Chef have the following:
Jeweler:
- Ability to craft Ascended trinkets, obviously
- Aura infusion crafting (and maybe finally a way to make that Koda’s Warmth infusion so it isn’t just on an amulet)
Chef:
- Triple stat food, starting at 450. The best thing is, you don’t even need to introduce new recipes. You can simply adjust some of the existing HoT/LS recipes to be 450. This would help boost demand for some otherwise worthless cooking ingredients like Passion Fruit, Nopal and Cassava.
- Elixirs, a sort of one-time character based stat boost. They offer stat upgrades similar to infusions (I’m thinking maybe +25 to a stat), but are permanent. Each character can only benefit from a particular elixir once. They’re also expensive to make. For instance, one of the ingredients might be “Essence of Berries”, which requires 250 Blueberries, 250 Strawberries, 250 Blackberries and 250 Raspberries. This is then combined with other ingredients to make the Elixir.

That’s just going to push up all the scrubby elitism just futher.
“Fractal daily run, no necro/revenant, full asc, potions, food and elixir or kick”
There will always be elitists though. They’re already here, asking for things like “show LI/title, food/pots” etc. I honestly doubt that having elixirs in the game would change very much. What it might do, on the other hand, is result in something similar to what happened to dungeons. I don’t know if you were around for it, but back in the pre-HoT days, dungeons were in a similar state to what raids are now. It was basically “meta/80’s/exp only”, unless you happened to run it with friends or a guild.
And then HoT was released, and in an ironic twist, the power creep that resulted meant that dungeons could now be done by just having one or two players in the group with Ascended gear/HoT builds. This meant that PUGs were now far more willing to bring even total newbies along, because the experienced players could easily carry them if needed. Everybody still got their rewards, and the newbies gained valuable experience they otherwise wouldn’t have gotten because they weren’t using the meta. If dungeons didn’t have their rewards nerfed so badly, I think they wouldn’t be as abandoned as they are now.
So, with that in mind, I think that small amounts of power creep could actually be a good thing for GW2’s endgame, as far as making content like raids and Fractals Challenge Modes (since I’m certain that ANet is going to do more content similar to Nightmare fractal going forward) more accessible to the wider player base. We don’t want to go as far as making it a gear treadmill, but in small doses, it could have a very good net positive impact.
Well somone said xunlai ingot would not be forgotten…As the are crafted with silver gold and platinum we can safely say we could be looking at legendary jewelry,
I do not mind crafted
- legendary rings amulets, earrings
- ascended rings, amulets, earrings
- aura’s and other infusions
to fall under a reworked jeweler…
lvl 500 chef would be food with very special purpose or a 3rd (minor) stat….
nice spcial purpose:
- added res speed
- added dmg output
- added speed
- Added boon on crit or hit
- roughly said a rune bonus comes to mind in foods.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
I would like food with longer buffs, I keep forgetting to renew them.
