You added new clothes to the gem store. That’s great! And I would love to buy them.. but I am out of room.

I would spend much more money in the gem shop on almost every town-clothing cosmetic item you offered IF (and only if) you created a town-clothing specific, self-expanding storage location for it on my character.

Here’s the thing.. town clothing in my normal inventory is taking up valuable adventuring space where more important itemst can go. Thus, it’s not going to happen.

Town clothing in my bank is useless to me.. I want to be able to switch to it exactly when I want it, not after I make a trip to the bank for it and back again. So, not going to do this either.

On top of this, my bank slots are maxed and (for whatever reason) you won’t allow me to buy any additional ones. So you’re not getting any more money from me in the storage area.

But, if you put a specific storage area on my character that only accepts town clothing items and has infinite capacity, and I will fill it with as many town clothing accessories as you toss up on the store. As it is right now, every time I look at a piece of town clothing on your store the #1 reason I pass on purchasing it is because I know I just don’t have space to store it and can’t justify allocating space to something I’ll only use occasionally. Why are you allowing that to even be a factor influencing my decision?

Help me give you more money, because you’re not going to get it from me any other way. Storage space and town clothing.. that’s the only two areas of the game I have any interest in spending money on, and one of those I’ve maxed out and the other you’re not providing me the space for.

Yeah sadly I’m in the same boat now. I won’t be spending any more money until we get some sort of storage for them.

Do something like the PvP lockers. Except add it to the Collectables tab in the bank. Have a section where we can put all our town clothing. Or even make a new tab in the bank for town clothing that we can store them in.

I’ve bought every outfit that they have released, but now I won’t be buying these till we get some sort of storage system in place first.

I would love to see an item that would let me change a soulbound item to account bound. Even if it was a one use deal – accountbound until I soulbind it to a new character.

Too situational for me and the space, agreed.

What I would like to know is, does their system make them more money than the more relaxed Guild Wars 1 system? Whoever designed it must have thought so but to me it seems like lost sales to them. Why did they think that more restrictions would increase sales?

Guild Wars 1 vs. Guild Wars 1
1) all toons could wear a costume vs. only one at a time can wear
2) storage NPC vs. take up scarce room in inventory.
3) can wear at all times including combat vs. only while not in combat. Which essentially means only in town for most people.
4) set up to toggle on/off automatically vs. manual toggle. Which means most people don’t use town clothes/costumes because they don’t remember to do so in the scarce times they are in town.

The people who set up this system must have thought it would bring in more money per customer. Or they thought people would spend hours doing costume brawl and it would be a major mini game. Since people only rarely do costume brawl, maybe they should look hard at remaking the game to support the Guild Wars 1 system.

anet doesn’t want my money, I can live with that. I like the festive town clothing, but as long as its soulbound and takes up 6 slots or more in my extremely limited bank, I won’t buy any of it ever again.

my bank is already fully upgraded, I’ve even made a personal guild with the first slot (50 spaces) to stash some stuff. if I could buy more bank space, I definately would.

I mean, they could give us ways of organizing stuff without having to buy endless bank slots. like, for example, stack sizes bigger than the useless 250. I hate how the dungeon tokens take up 2 full slots in my bank. or the several thousands of copper, silver, iron and other crafting materials. food ingredients another slot. the runes and sigils I collect until I get a full set.

I agree that it would be great if ANet made GW2 town clothes work more like GW1 costumes, where there’s an NPC that “stores” all the outfits you paid to unlock. Barring that, a pane on the Collection tab for town outfits would work too. Being able to wear them “over” your armor in combat if you want and having the toggles to choose when they display (in town, in combat, both) like the GW1 costumes would be ideal as well.

Good for you OP! This is a really well thought out post. As already pointed out, what was done in Guild Wars 1 is far better than what we have in Guild Wars 2. The only difference is that the outfits in Guild Wars 2 come with costume brawl skills, which is sorta fun, but other than that, it’s a lot of space to dedicate to something you can’t even use all the time.

One solution would be an extra bag slot that holds cash shop items only. Other games do this and it makes sense. It encourages usage of the cash shop by providing free space for storage.

All those boosters and town clothes could be tucked away in a player’s inventory with no worries.

I could use more bank slots too. I have maxed bank slots, maxed bags on 4 alts, and a personal guild with 150 storage spaces. The guild bank cannot hold account or soulbound items. otherwise I would be OK. I cannot keep a lot of the unique event items (e.g. haloween skins) for use on future alts because bank space is at a premium. I craft and sell on the TP which uses about 3 bank tabs for inventory and raw materials (don’t tell me to use the guild bank for this, it is awkward in the big cities and impossible in the field). Another bank tab is full with BL tool kits, various boosters, dungeon tokens, WvW badges, karma jugs, and other rare account bound special items. That leaves 4 bank tabs for 4 characters.

Great post OP. I was on the fence about town clothes — they are neat, but I wouldn’t use them much — and the storage issue was what made me decide to just not bother with them.

I love the idea of some sort of inventory bag/tab specifically for gem store items like town clothes. It certainly wouldn’t make me want to buy a ton of town clothes, but I’d probably actually buy a set if I loved it instead of just ignoring it because it is town clothes.

I completely agree that we need more space.

But I think they should develop a tab-system for town clothes, just like Blizzard did with mounts in WoW.
Having a tab with all your town clothes that would allow you to equip any town set you have on your account(race-specific town clothes restricted to the race it was made for, of course) would simply be amazing.

The Secret World (which was designed from the start to have a cash shop selling loads of different outfits) also has a good solution to this – your wardrobe is its own window, where you select, say, pants, and then pick from a list of all the different pants you own. Clothing never takes up any room in your bags, just goes straight to the wardrobe when you buy it.

I strongly recommend this type of system to any game that plans to make money selling costumes.

+1 on this.

Don’t tax players for having cool town clothes. Even if the player isn’t spending $$ to get their town clothing, being able to bring and equip fun town clothing without using bag space encourages players to wear the stuff more often, which reciprocates the desire to buy cool town clothing.

Also, put some more emotes and/or dances on the gem store if you want to pry some $ out of me.

This is really the type of change I’d prefer to see.. being able to access any town clothing purchased on my account from any character, at any location, at any time, without it using up any “physical” space while in storage.

Were that the case, I’d probably be buying town clothes as fast as the developers can make them.

I raise my bottle of diet Dr Pepper to the idea of finding a method of storing street clothing that does not take up valuable bag/bank space. If such a method sprang into availability, I would buy every piece of street clothing that showed up in the gem store…I have a human warrior female who would very much love to become a clothes horse…warriors like pretty things too

Yeah, just realized that, brainfart from my side.

I guess a better idea would be something like DCUO’s system – in the menu there is a tab that lets you switch out and color costume pieces you already unlocked so far. Maybe something like that; you could purchase the fashion thing, it gives you an item you can use to unlock that style for a character, and then you could switch in and out of it whenever you want.

I agree.

I’ve always felt the whole inventory/bank system in this game was very standard in such an innovative game. They thought about how we level so much that they completely forgot that about one of the biggest annoyances of playing any RPG is dealing with bags.

Why can I ONLY put collectibles into a bottomless bank slot?

Why do my sPVP items show up in my inventory while not in the sPVP world?

Why isn’t there better visual indicators to sort through gear quickly?

Those are questions that pop into my head when I’m frustrated with inventory issues in this game.

During Beta weekends, Anet asked for people to help test the Gem Store and use their credit card to buy gems. I bought gems at this time and when the game went live one of the first things I did was buy some extra characters and every single available upgrade for extra space in the bank.

Since day one, I’ve had the maximum bank slots available and I would have purchased more if Anet would take my money for more.

I certainly would have purchased holiday outfits/ town clothes if I were not out of storage space. I would pay to have more storage space so that I could buy more outfits/ townclothes. A “town clothes” tab or some storage specifically for town clothes would be preferable.

I would also purchase armor and weapon skins if there were some that I liked on sale in the gem store. It seems like they have not added any skins to the gems store for purchase since launch(not counting the skins added during holiday events).

I don’t really get what they trying to do with town clothes honestly. As you said they take up space and on top of that you can’t use them in combat so they are pretty useless. How much time do you really spend in town?
If they were like the costumes in Guild wars 1 where you could have there appearance override your armor (maybe not for PvP though) I would buy some of them but as it is now there is no point.
