Title. It’s one of the more reliable ways to acquire gold and mats, be it event map or chest train.

Now I’m NOT saying Anet has gone all crazy but it seems like they are soft pushing players into spending real money for gold by having all the gold “fix” like dungeons etc. Suppose they are to do this again will silverwaste get hit? I hope not

I don’t remember seeing much gold being generated by SW when I am there. In terms of champ bag type rewards the HoT zones give a lot more. After getting some participation credit you can even be afk somewhere and continue getting the bags until that bar empties(but you get less than if you were actively doing stuff).

They already did. Chest farms now get less chests per run around the map. Happened the day HoT was launched.

In addition to this anything generating salvage materials was slightly nerfed according to Anet’s philosophy of “scarcity” being good for people.

Without “scarcity”, you’ll never need to sell things useless to you on TP to buy things useful to you on TP.
You’ll just get all the things you need and have the useless one overflowing your inventory/bank.

But then you can make it yourself and it wouldn’t be a problem. It makes everything that you can craft fairly accessible. And really I doubt materials can ever bottom out now if they are used in ascended gear. Because now people will be using these mats to make ascended → Which they will either use or salvage for balls of dark matter for the new legendary recipes.

As long as there is an adequate sink for materials there will always be just enough demand to keep the price alright. Having players able to gather a decent amount of the material just means that the average player can farm up the materials reasonably where the rich player will just save time and buy it off the TP. You didn’t have to reduce rewards and increase the necessary materials needed.

And again it only really applies to crafting materials that you need in bulk. More specialized crafting materials and rare ones will always be the pricey ones such as freshwater pearls or charged lodestones.

They simply made too many loot nerfs and recipe changes all at once which double dipped into the effects and that is why things are just way too expensive to justify buying.

You know, the whole idea with this game, as any other game, is for Anet to make money. They dont have a sub, their only guaranteed money they get from players is when they buy the game. Or was, as there now is a free play option. Still, there wouldnt have been a free to play option if Anet didnt think it would generate more money. It could mean that Anet trust their gemshop more than selling copies of the game, but it could also mean they hope the freeplayers eventually buy gw2.
Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is, its Anets game and they do what they want with it. Some of the recent changes could hint at Anet not making enough money, though its Anet who decides what enough is. It would be pure speculation anyway, as only Anet knows.
The gemshop remainders have been there all the time, likewise the nerfing of farms (against botting. ye right), and the race for gold (gold will get you most of the stuff you need). It is all a part of a game with a gemshop.
You probably know all this, but sometimes I wonder if people forget, or dont see.

No point nerfing something that has already been nerfed several times already now.

What they will probably do is place a requirement to fail a variety of the events in order to make extra chests spawn.. cos ANET enjoy putting content into the game that splits maps into toxic farm and fun wars these days.

There’s something most people fail to realize is that generating gold is not the same thing as acquiring gold.

Generating gold is the definition of generating gold in to the game that was not currently there, so it’s new gold coming into the game, it’s like printing more money in real life and putting it in the economy.

On the other hand Acquiring gold by selling items in the trade post is just shifting gold from one person to another, and you can only do it as long as people are willing to pay for the goods that you need to sell.

With that being said no SW is not the best way to generate new gold into the game, it might be a good way to acquire gold right now, but that’s just because the economy in guild wars went up.

When the economy goes down again (when it stabilizes) sw will nerf itself.

Not only that rsimoes, but every TP transaction is a gold sink, so I would guess it’s going to accelerate itself.

It has already been nerfed. No need to do this again. Yet what is mentioned here is exactly where this game fails where other MMO’s have succes: it’s all about getting gold to craft items. But the thrill in MMO’s is itemDROP…

Dont think SW is giving more or less gold than the HOT maps so dont think they nerf it,maybe they give it a reward tracker and 2hr event cycle like the other HOT map have to make it more fun

SW has already nerfed itself long time ago, when i just looked what happend to
prices of vicious fangs for example.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

SW chest farm doesn’t add that much raw gold into the game as dungeons were, those bags only gave a few silver a piece. It would take quite some bags to earn the same amount of raw gold dungeons used to give. You do get alot of materials, but those materials only have value through using them or selling on the TP, which means they don’t generate gold but rather drain gold from the game. I don’t think they will nerf SW for this, especially considering you can earn a ton of gold in HoT maps and by node-farming certain materials.

Yeah .. they also already had nerfed the direct gold from champ bags 2 times
long before we even got SW .. and at that time i already wondered why the hell
don’t they also nerf direct money from dungeons. And than they even nerfed
direct gold from events from 1.20s to 90c or whatever .. but they still didn’t
touched the holy cow that were dungeons.

In my opinion its very easy to see theres a very strong connection with nerfing materials, gold rewards,massive goldsinks, massive new loot timegating in the core game and the expansion in relation to the cash gems for gold conversion. It doesnt feel right with me, thats why i am back to playing only single player games for now, which im quite enjoying :-)
