I just got back from a long break, and saw a player run by me with a katana on her person. I kind of went ape finding out that it’s no longer available.

Probably. It might be some months until it does.

chances are good, that it will come back someday later, but it is just only the skin.
There has been data mined also the existance of an ascended weapon with the name “Delaqua Family Blade” with the same skin, but just with an animated air bladish aura around it, which is still uncleared, how to get this in the game, as the greatsword skin alione is just the weapon without that air aura around its blade.

Maybe we will see somewhen later on Season 2 becomign the Delaqua Family Blade become a reward for finishing one of the seasons episiodes or in general for finishign the whole season 2 due to marjory beign so heavy involved in this whole season, that she wants to reward us at the end with a special weapon from her family, that belonged maybe earlier her father or so who teached Belinda to fight with the sword…

The Belinda’s Greatsword skin will probably make a return eventually. It was heavily requested when episode 2 of the living story was released and there was a second entry of the Iron Greatsword in the wardrobe that looked like Belinda’s sword. Soon after the second Iron Greatsword entry in the wardrobe was removed and during the 2 year gem shop anniversary sale they finally made the skin available.

(I bought the Belinda’s Greatsword skin)

I doubt the Delaqua Family Blade will be an actual ascended weapon, it’s more likely to be a plot sword like Caladbolg; it just seems highly unlikely ANet would introduce a free skin that is almost identical to a gem store skin, particularly when it’s the free version that has the special effects on it (typically we would see reskins of standard armor with special effects tacked on in the gem store, not the other way around).

Don’t be so sure. They may make it part of the living story and make players go through extreme hoops in order to craft it.

For example, the back items released with the living story content. You get various items from doing the episodes and have to work your way toward crafting them.

I can see Anet pulling a stunt like that for a Delaqua Family Blade ascended weapon.

ANet has made questionable decisions regarding the pricing and design of some of their gem store products, but it’s always been in favor of the gem store, not against it; making a glowy Belinda’s greatsword skin permanently available for free (no matter what hoops you have to jump through) directly competes with and undermines future sales of non-glowy version.

I could see it if it was reward for temporary content though, but definitely not permanent content like Mawdrey is.

i doubt that.. only because somethign is flashier than the first version, doesn’t must mean that sales in a gem shop for the normal version must completely stop.

Weapon Skins still are a matter of taste and there are alot of peopel out there, which might also prefer more simple looking weapons over reskins with super flashy particle effects and what not all.
Otherwise by that logic, ANet would have put directly the flashy version into the shop and would have imlemented the non flashy version as a living story reward or so, so that people still want to by the shop version, because of it looking “better”

But as said.. “looking better” is no ultimate selling point, because looking better is just relatively a matter of personel taste.

And personally I think it would be just an awesome living story final reward that would feel truly rewarding for doing sucessfully the season 2 (if it must be together with dpoing all of its achievements too), if we woudl get at the end that ascended weapon with the flashier skin version, because this still keeps the non flashy version at what the gem shop stuff that is no advantage over others.

ANet will never sell ascended weapons via the Gem Shop it will always be just only skins and the delaqua family blade has been clearly dataminded as an ascended weapon.
I don’t believe it that we have to craft it, what leaves it open for me personally only, that it must be some kind of reward somewhen later in the game.
The question is only, when and where and for me the most logically moment would be just at the end of season 2 as a reward from Marjory personally for all our help during that time.

The item is definitely there to be seen, and it is an ascended weapon (assuming it didn’t get hidden again with the release of HoT). Honestly, I wouldn’t know what to make of that. There are enough good reasons that we’d never see this item in player hands, but then its purpose remains a mystery. We never found anything similar for Caladbolg or other NPC weapons, so it doesn’t feel like they’d have to abide by the same rules we do regarding gear. So, why make it? There’s no need for it as a test item.

what?? i missed it again, played for gw since the first prophecy, got an gw2 account linked with the 1, and this account is new since christmas where i took the extension, waiting for the katana for longggg time and missed it twice! am so sad, do a newsletter next time :p

Actually it was up again not long ago, last month I believe. It will be back again.

Sooooo… when is it coming back NOW? Soon… I hope ;-; Such a cool skin. Wish it was just automatically available like Lord Faren’s Rapier Skin.

Ever since i got the game i have been hoping for this skin to be in gemstore. Since march sales are about to end im starting to loose all hopes :/
