Will GW2 be returning to store shelves?
I recently managed to purchase a copy of Guild Wars 2, but when looking for copies I found they were incredibly rare as GW2 is listed as “Discontinued” according to EB Games here in Australia.
This one goes out to ArenaNet / NC…
With the Macintosh client Beta (and that’s awesome by the way), will Guild Wars 2 retail copies be returning to stores with Macintosh support, and if so how soon?
Box copies arent really a necessity and incur more “production” cost than if you simply sold digital copies (like they already do).
Check with Amazon…
EB Games is more for ‘console’ players as they carry almost no PC games in the states.
Amazon is where I bought my “box” copy of guild wars 2. I didnt get a box, which I didnt care for, but I did receive the game key, which is what’s contained in the box of cardboard you’re asking for. Box copies tend to be more expensive than the “digital” copy because you’re paying for the price of the cardboard the box was made out of.
All the versions are still widely available here in the UK, on Amazon.co.uk and even in my local supermarket (Tesco). And I recently bought another copy of it online (taking advantage of the half price ) which I guess anyone can do wherever they live. I can’t honestly say I’ve noticed it be unavailable at any time.
Btw, for anyone wondering, the download version was a LOT simpler and less hassle than the boxed version, I would recommend it. AND I was able to simply copy-paste all the serial numbers etc from the email into my Documents, onto my back-up hard drive etc so I won’t lose them, as I have managed to do with my box/serial number for this account (doh)
My EB has a section for pc games….in the back corner….hidden behind some halo figure….one shelf….i think i saw a D2 collection pack on it….

Grab that, it’ll give you something to play while they patch the bugs created by the feature patch this Tuesday.
And no, I’m not being sarcastic (for once). With as much as they’re changing, you know there will be something important broken.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I don’t believe I’ve seen a copy of GW2 on a shelf in a retail outlet for over a year. I think they got some initial stock in when the game launched (QVS is the distributor in Australia/NZ) and they let that dwindle to zero, and if you don’t know it’s available as a digital copy because there’s no advertising for this game here (gg, Anet / NCsoft) then it’s tough cheddar.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
It doesn’t make sense to sell a boxed copy, by the time it gets to the shelf and sold to the user, its out of date. So you will probably have to download many GB of patches anyway.

Copypaste the activation code to him. Digital copy is the code, nothing else.

Digital copy is just a code. Get a copy and give your friend the code to use. Whoever registered that number owns the account.

Okay, so purchasing won’t automatically redeem the code like buying games on front digital storefronts (eg Steam, GOG, etc.) will?

Wasn’t to long ago I could walk into a GameStop and the whole right wall was nothing but PC games. Now the right, left, back wall and a few carts are nothing but console games… PC games gets maybe one side of a cart way in the back.
Maybe if places like GameStop would put some focus into selling PC games they might sell some of them.
People still buy computer games in boxes from actual, walk-in stores?
o.o

while PC has more players it also has moved to be pretty much all digital (thanks to trustworthy sites such as steam), therefore it wouldn’t make much sense for them to sell PC games, though I do miss the big boxes from early 2000s when you could find game art in your box without buying a collector’s edition.
I wish I bought the game as a box copy, rather than digital sometimes. I’d love to look at it and just be like, “ahh, guild wars 2”
I make PvP & WvW videos

every time when there’s a game that I really want and they release a collectors edition worth buying I buy it. That’s why right now I can move my head and stare at Rythlock’s statue. I still have the full big game box in the storage room as well

if it wasn’t for digital distribution method, my whole house would look like my room did in my last house; I for one am glad nearly all games nowaday allow for digital distribution, I had absolutely no space with over 1000 console games, haha.

Yeah, you shouldn’t compare Anet to Steam. When you make a digital purchase, the key is e-mailed to you, and you can then give it to someone else.
Keep in mind that should there be a dispute with the account (i.e. hacked), your friend will need to work with you, since you’d be the one who paid for the key in the first place. As long as you’re willing to provide him information at that point, there’s no problem.
I actually buy more “important” games for me in regular game boxes from shops, heck, even collector’s editions!
Having digital game is okay if it’s some one-time game like Tentale games (despite they’re so awesome!) etc.
But games like Gothic, Witcher, NFSU2, Elder Scrolls, AoE II, GW/WoW series and such are a must-have for me. Especially Gothic, NFSes, old Colin McRaes, Witcher games are just very sentimental and memorable for me;)

Okay, no worries.
Thanks for that.
