Guild Wars 2

For various reasons, I’m considering a switch to Linux. However, I will only do it if I can continue to play the games I like. I realize that it won’t run directly and that you have to use some kind of program to make it possible to play games made to play on Windows on Linux, but afaik it doesn’t always work.

So, do the programs that let you run games on Linux work for GW2? Also, my computer is kind of just barely getting the job done; do these programs require a lot of system resources? Is there anything else I should know about gaming on Linux?

i try guild wars 2 with wine if you get it to work with wine program let me know:)

i believe they’ve said that although they aren’t making an official client for linux they are optomizing it to run in wine.

Linux has like 1% market share or something and most of that isn’t gamers. There’s no good reason for anybody to waste resources trying to make PC games run on it.

Great OS – for some things and some people (techies) – but not necessarily for PC gaming.

Yet. The keyword is yet. Linux has been gaining a lot of ground in the past few years and Windows 8 might make a lot of users consider switching.

Don’t get me wroung but windows 8 look very bad to me.Only prob i had with the game use wine was i could’t seen the guild war 2 windows when i was try to install it.

I use linux for my programming and windows for my games.

Wine is continually improved, but it can also be a complete pain. You could always just run Windows in a virtual machine in Linux for all of your games or partition your drive and dual boot.

And just throwing out good news for gaming on Linux: Steam is porting content!

Oooh, and as far as resources go, I ran WoW on Wine ( a while back ) and if you used the OpenGL mode, it actually ran smoother than with DirectX on Windows. Don’t ask me how or why, but it did.
